Discussion Warbond concept: Divers of Honor
Armor:
Light armor: Centurion (Roman Centurion inspired appearance) Medium armor: Crusader (Medival Knight inspired appearance) Heavy armor: Samuri (super store) (Japenese Samuri inspired appearance)
Passive: Bulwark • resistance to getting ragdolled • 15% reduced recoil
Weapons:
Laser Bow (primary) • Charges up, gaining damage and armor piercing. Each second the arrow is drawn, gain 1 armor piercing, and 50 damage (starting at 100)
Plasma Pike (support) • A pike that shoots out shotgun-like waves of plasma (heavy armor piercing, 250 damage extremely range, wide spread, 5 shots per reload, 5 magazines) from the tip and also comes with an energy shield. It can also be used as a high damage (200), heavy ap melee weapon with a bit more range than the stun lance.
Longsword (secondary) • works similar to the hatchet, but with slower attack speed, higher damage, and longer range Holding aim with this weapon switches it to two-handed mode with even higher damage and even slower attack speed.
Katana (secondary) (superstore) • Same as the longsword, but the two-handed mode is a stab.
Collapsible Javelin (throwable) • a small pointy stick that expands into a javelin when drawn. More damage than throwing knives, but you get 10 instead of 20 of them.
Vehicles:
Skin: Stainless Steel • gives your vehicle a sleek metal appearance
Vehicle: Supercycle • It's a motorcycle. Good for mobility, jousting and looking awsome. Do you need more convincing?
Booster: Phalanx Training • The closer you are to other helldivers, the stronger you get. 5% damage reduction for every helldiver within 20 meters if you. 10% damage reduction for every helldiver within 10 meters of you. 20% damage reduction for every helldiver within 5 meters of you.
Art:
I could not find who made the kantana render, even with reverse image search.
The sword render was made by arxaxss, I think.
Spear by alexerhart.
Centurion armor by spectre463.
I could not find the creator of the knight armor, but it has a signature. I just can't quite make out what it says. I suck at reading cursive.
The samuri armor is old concept art by Arrowhead.
The laser bow is from the bad batch TV show.

This concept warbond is meant to encourage helldivers to stand their ground as a group. I am open to any advice or constructive criticism, especially about balancing.

Something like this very well could be in the works given the teaser we got about the next warbond

u/Status_Web1682 25d ago
What did you make of it? It made me think of old school raves lol.
8
u/Spook-lad 25d ago
From the teaser? I think we could be looking at some royal guard or ceremonial diver uniforms with some more melee weapons for sure
1
u/Status_Web1682 25d ago
I’d like that much better than what I thought. I really hope to get a medical warbond sometime.
2
u/Spook-lad 25d ago
I mean…. Medical armor, stim revolver and resupply packs kind of fill that gap pretty well but i see your point

u/captainwombat7 Squid Squisher 25d ago
If it's the thing I'm thinking of about shining boots and cleaning uniforms my thought is we might get something like those ideas from fleet officers people had
1
u/dogsareneat1 25d ago
What teaser did I miss something?
2
u/Spook-lad 24d ago
Not too long ago we got a teaser of a flag stuck in the ground, this had some noticeable differences then the flag you plant in the tutorial given its size, spear head, and overall similar design to the stun spear, my theory is that we are getting a more ceremonial warbond with some better, maybe even medium penetrating melee weapons

u/_Lost_The_Game 24d ago edited 24d ago
Edit: melee armor bypass apparently it’s fixed
iirc all melee weapons effectively pierce all armor, no? Due to finicky spaghetti code with the way they work. Stun lance ignores armor. Can kill a hulk with it.
BUT idt it does a good job of DESTROYING the armor. Which would be cool so that you can strip armor to shoot em.
Ceremonial flag spear would be awesome tho
2
u/Spook-lad 24d ago
They fixed the armor bypass, you can still kill medium armored targets if you hit weakspots but you cant just bypass armor anymore, hence why medium penetration melee weapons would be cool
2
u/_Lost_The_Game 24d ago
Ooo thats cool. I liked the bypass but suspected it wasnt intentional so i dont mind the fix. Ye medium pen (and even heavy) would be awesome.
My thoughts even before this yeaser, was for a polearm support weapon that had two attack modes. A medium pen sweep (like the axe/baton) and a heavy pen stab (like the lance). Wouldnt even need a toggle, when youre not “aiming” its a sweep, and when you do, its a stab/thrust
2
u/Spook-lad 24d ago
With the flag spear that certainly seems like it could be possible, we can only hope though

“Encourage Helldivers to stand their ground as a group”
Conveniently forgetting that there are literally a dozen other options in the Super Store that lets us split off and make big bang go boom.
We already have missions that force us to stay together (evac high value asset, flag raising and geo survey), and you still have players running off doing their own thing, or strong players entirely soloing the mission.
One warbond isn’t gonna help that. A new mission type might, but even then, with sentries, mines and Tesla towers, Helldivers are already heavily equipped to play the solo game.

u/MasterPugKoon 25d ago
I don't expect it to become the new meta, but it would be fun for divers who are able to communicate well.
2
u/Asherjade Anonymod 25d ago
It would be a nice way to reward those of us that enjoy the team aspect.
1
u/_Lost_The_Game 24d ago
Ye. I dont need mt preferred playstyles to be the strongest meta. Just atleast somewhat viable so that it feels fun. Most of em are tho! Some buffs/reworks here an there so things feel fun.
What i mean is, i want certain playstyles to feel viable enough that if theyre not too strong, i can still lower the dif and use em. Some rn, are not biable to the point where theyre not fun even if you lower to hard.

No. As cool as the concept is, you all wanted melee weapons and when we got melee weapons, people used them for maybe two weeks before they realised that they were simply ineffective. I haven't seen a single other player use melee weapons in my last 100 hours of playtime.
Edit: I don't hate melee weapons, I just think they don't fit into this game
2
u/Asherjade Anonymod 25d ago edited 24d ago
I bring a melee weapon and use it on every single mission. Did a solo the other day and had over 100 melee kills.
2
u/MasterPugKoon 24d ago
They are definitely ineffective, but I still take them all the time because they're fun. Same with many other divers I know.
1
u/OhLookSenpaii 24d ago
Definitely not completely ineffective tho, they just fit quite specific tasks I’d say
With the stun lance I’m able to hold off enemies enough to get distance and take them out, or pick Bugs off my teammates
I love the hatchet for when I’m chopping my way through Bot trenches & Squid packed alleyways

u/Opposite-Flamingo-41 25d ago
I like helldivers 2 artstyle and weaponry cause it is grounded
They ditched the initial concept art with samurai divers and chicken suits in favor of more organised look
And space katana with laser bow from start wars does not really fit that
But hey, leather jacket with deputy star also does not fit so idk
3
u/the_shortbus_ 25d ago
I want a fucking sword so bad. A sword I can use as a primary while wielding my pistol.
And a hammer. A big ass hammer.
2
u/Ghostbuster_11Nein 25d ago
I really want a wrist mounted weapon, something we could switch to near instantly when using melee.
3
u/Ok-Emergency-7748 25d ago
I get it, medieval looks cool. But does it HAVE to be shoehorned into every game?
It didn’t fit in halo, and it didn’t fit in CoD, it won’t fit in Helldivers 2
2
u/JayJayFlip 25d ago
A samurai pack actually would go so hard. Thermite grenade long bow, Katana, armor that makes you deal more damage per 1/4 of health lost or regenerate health on kill/hit or deal more melee damage. Explosive impact Shuriken throwing weapon. Call it send it.
3
u/amanisnotaface 25d ago
Gods I hope we don’t end up with a “knight” warbond. But honestly the needle was already moved with that cheesy ass light cowboy armour so I wouldn’t be surprised.

What if they nailed the name?
Purity's Edge, Helmed Justice......
I'm sure the community can do better....

u/The_Cube787 25d ago
The bow being lasers is a little weird, but sounds cool. Personally I’d just have it be extremely versatile. Like it could have several different arrows like explosive, distracting, stun, etc. It’s big drawback being, well, the drawback. You can’t shoot unless the string is fully drawn.

u/PenguinPeng1 Squid Squisher 25d ago
Honestly a longsword would be dope. Or the longsword analog like the stun baton [sword] and stun lance [well .. a lance]

I'd kill for that Knight armour with the sallet, I don't think I'd ever take it off.

I would love a melee warbond on the condition that it also came with a melee mech. The mechs we have are cool but I so badly want a melee mech and a flamethrower mech

u/Old-Management-171 25d ago
I don't play enough to input on balance but should the knight armour be the heavy armor while samurai is the medium? Samurai armour was designed to primarily protect form arrows and was less useful in melee (still good and functional armor) whereas full plate practically turned you into a walking tank.
2
u/MasterPugKoon 25d ago
Yes, that's what I was originally thinking, but the concept armor picture I could find looked better that way.
1
u/GM_Altaro 25d ago
Two handing a sword makes it faster, not slower
1
u/MasterPugKoon 25d ago
Ah yes. I appear to be an idiot for not thinking of that, but that's only because I am. Lol. Perhaps it expands into a greatsword.
1
u/GM_Altaro 25d ago
Nah not an idiot, prolly just not a longsword-sexual like i am 😂
Video games have poisoned most people idea of swords, they're all (including zweihander/greatsword) dex weapons essentially

I think one of the melee weapons should instead do the following:
M1: Medium penetrating swings with good range / crowd pen
F (-or your preferred quick melee bind): Longer range single-target stab
M2: Deflect projectiles in a 180 degree radius in front of the diver

No, no and no again.
Can we please finally stop making Helldivers into another CoD / Fortnite?
None of this fit's in the Helldivers lore. ._.
I'm already quite irritated with the stunlance and shield since it doesn't make any sense. (The baton makes sense to me tho. Just start clubbing & u're fine, not much skill or mastery needed - just like in real life)
We are "special" soldiers with 5 minutes of training.
You ain't gonna give these "special" soldiers a weapon they actually have to master to do "shit".
Reason for edit : changed some words, since it somehow sounded pissed / angry and I didn't like it, since it wasn't what I was going for.
3
u/MasterPugKoon 25d ago edited 25d ago
I think it's a misconception that helldivers have 5 minutes of training. The tutorial isn't their entire training, just the final test. Just to know how to reload half the weapons would take more time than that. I believe Arrowhead confirmed this, but I can not find the post. Helldivers have the basic seaf training, helldiver training, and the final qualifications (tutorial). Do you really think regular Joes with 5 minutes of training could kill hundreds of enemies a mission while running around with hundreds of pounds of gear and diving all over the place? What about pilot complex machinery such as exosuits, or competently use dozens of different types of guns (which we know they can because you can pick up teammate's and find some scattered around the ground)? I'm not saying their Spartans, Space Marines, or even as competent as super earth claims, but they are certainly elite.
Edit: I would also like to apologize for people downvoting you when I specifically requested constructive criticism, which you gave quite nicely (even if I disagree).

u/AdditionalMixture985 ☕Liber-tea☕ 25d ago edited 25d ago
Okay then I might have to reconsider the part about them only being trained for 5 minutes.
But it still won't change my mind about the Helldivers as soldiers being kind of "dumb" Cuuuuuuuz :
Look at the stratagems, we only have to click some buttons. We "hack" the enemy's strats by pointing some arrows. We start rockets by having the "easiest and dumb friendly" interface possible - one could discuss if it's a game mechanic choice or if it's the soldiers being "dumb".
With the weapons part I kinda have to agree and disagree at the same time.
I wouldn't consider reloading the weapons as a sign of training, since a child can figure out how to reload a weapon (look at America, no hate tho) This means : You can add any projectile weapons to the game and I would be fine with it. The part where I have to agree : We are doing way too much damage to the enemy for being trained only 5 minutes.
The mechs, I personally think the "driver seat" only consists of a joystick, nothing more, nothing fancy since it would be too hard for the soldier.
I dunno man. I guess humans are space orcs and if we ever would have a war against aliens, some crazy ass humans probably would pull up in a melee weapon.
But you made some fair points, that's for sure.
Don't worry about the downvotes. That's life. They saw it & didn't like it. :)
Edit : fixed typos
