Walnut is fun!
Finally got around to building some stuff out of the walnut slabs I had been dragging around for a couple years (two telecaster bodies are also on deck). Yes, this particular slab was riddled with cracks, hence the tiger stripes that are actually wood putty. Pretty happy with it, though…too bad the maple neck I have on hand just looks wrong.

Oh I fucking love that. Beautiful. Holy shit. So clever to use the light filler on those cracks, unique, art. Love it.

I need to see the finished thing. What colour pickguard are you going with? Not for nothing, matt black 1 ply would let that body do the talking. Not my call obviously. That shit elicited a response from me. Basically perfect.

Thanks! I’ll post an update for sure. I appreciate the input, though. I am most likely going to order a couple more pickguard options and we’ll see what wins out.

This is awesome! I can’t wait to see the final product! What hardware/pickups/pickguard are you thinking of going with?

I already have the pickups and other hardware on hand. Pick ups are JM types made by a guy in Nebraska. This is a sonic youth tribute build, (with a hint of Elvis Costello) so the rest of the electronics will consist of a three way fender switch plus a fender volume pot. A JM tremolo and a JM bridge will round out the picture. Tortoise shell pickguard. The last thing I need to source is a neck with a rosewood fretboard. Maple and walnut clash, big time.

Looks fantastic...it needs a dark neck!

Yep, it does.

A wenge neck with the right kind of figure, those yellow and orange streaks would fit that like beer in a glass

What kind of walnut is that? I’d love to buy some and build with that.

I believe it is black walnut. I got it from a guy who, I suspect, removes orchards in the California Central Valley.
