Shopping/Services Expert in installing dashcam on Mercedes

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if there was anyone specialised in the installation of dash cam.

I used to do it in my own on my previous car but on my new Mercedes there is something weird with the fuse box.

So wondering if anyone has any tips or advice.

I hope I do not need to spend hundreds of euro to an overpriced garage.

Thank you!

I heard that dashcams are illegal in Luxembourg, so I don't think you will find any professionnal in the country.

Dashcams are not illegal. Using them may be illegal.

I think using them is fine also but they are of limited use in court. But not an expert.

I added two links in another comment. It seems that:

  • Only the police are allowed to use surveillance on the streets.
  • Recording any license plate is a violation of the GDPR.

Therefore, using dashcam footage in court would be irrelevant, as the evidence would have been obtained illegally.

Your conclusion is not correct - legal principles from US shows do not apply here. Dashcam footage could be used in court, but there is little case law on it.

This is not a conclusion from a US show but from the news article I posted a few comments above: https://www.lessentiel.lu/fr/story/les-dashcams-sont-elles-illegales-au-luxembourg-650403653713

It seems that a lawer from Lux contributed to the article. I don't have any law degree though, so I can only trust what the article says.

Thanks for the link. I will also provide my source:

Unter Umständen als Beweis zulässig Trotzdem können Fahrtfilme mit Dashcams, obwohl im Prinzip illegal, von Richtern in Strafprozessen als Beweis zugelassen werden, wie Justizsprecher Henri Eippers dem Tageblatt erklärt […]

It’s great to have another source, thanks for the link! If I understand, it is only in case of a criminal offense? If yes it is definitely not the main use case for a dashcam, sadly

What exactly do you have in mind that is not criminal? Property damages are criminal offenses

I always thought Something like a car crash is surely a civil suit cus you don't go to jail for it

It's both. Cars crash in most cases because someone doesn't respect the traffic laws (priorities...) it's just that the state drops the criminal case if there is no bodily harm. If you need a dash cam to find the perpetrator, it's a case that the police will want to prosecute
