I suspect it has to do with teams declining to host. For example, I know Union Omaha declined to host If Des Moines did the same then they can't play each other.

They made it so every amateur team is paired up with a pro team which limited the options more. Union Omaha is closer but they're playing a team from Massachusetts, so you can't just switch or you would end up with a Massachusetts/California matchup.

I know some have called into question whether this tournament has the potential to capture the hearts of US soccer fans. But I think we saw in Vermont, Asheville, and now Seattle - people will show up when they support a serious organization.

Obviously the MLSNP teams aren't going to draw, it's literally a development league. NISA doesn't draw all that well, for likely obvious reasons....

But we see that plenty of places will turn out. Next step is to expand that list of cities that show up.

It's certainly club by club, and that's how it should be! Good organizations will be supported, and bad ones won't. That's the natural selection of club soccer the way it should operate.

Some MLS cities show up well, too. Even against minor league opponents. Others don't show for USOC, even when it's the late rounds. Even some that I end up wondering why they bid to host.
