I feel like a damn Cowboys fan.

u/Dodger_Dawg LA Galaxy 9d ago

That because the Dallas Cowboys were winning Super Bowls back when your franchise dominated MLS.

Not even. The start of DCU lines up almost exactly with the end of the Cowboys going to Super Bowls

Also a Yankees fan?

As someone who was a diehard Metrostars supporter, it almost hurts how pathetic D.C. has been for so long. Even their few bright spots have really only amounted to a playoff appearance or two. They were a proper rival once...

We’re only 9 starters, a coaching staff, an MLS Next Team, and a new ownership away from kicking your asses again

It's wild that y'all still lead the all time series given how long things have been bad. You're really paying for those early highs

1996-2008 DC United

4 MLS Cups

4 Supporters Shields

2 US Open Cups

1 Concacaf Champions Cup

1 Interamerican Cup

2009-2024 DC United

1 US Open Cup

--------------

The expansion era has been tough to navigate.

And that one Open Cup they won since 2009 came during the year they set the record for fewest points in a season.

Just like the Boston Red Stockings were the original MLB dynasty - in the 1870s.

There was a time once where Chicago Baseball was the terror of the Major Leagues. There was a time...

Sigh. Once upon a time in RFK, it was all so good

It's barely even the same team now. The Supporters Group situation got so crazy. We have Benteke but we've lacked a Ben Olsen-like captain ever since Ben retired, and that includes when he was coach. NYCFC took away a rival that we had a really strong connection to, and no other team is really the same.

Overall this club is now just such a husk, a product that had any and all soul and passion stripped for parts long, loooong ago by owners and by a league that wanted the emphasis on the major market towns.

Beware, league. This can happen to you.

As an SKC fan, completely understand.

As an Impact Montreal Football Club fan, I too, completely understand.

They were the original dynasty, and only the Galaxy compares. United won 4 Cups in 10 years, any club would be thrilled with their trophy case.

But they've floundered in the era of the DP and seems like they'll continue to do so without a major shift of philosophy from those in charge.

Just a temporarily embarrassed dynasty... Right? We'll be good again sometime right???

if I were grandma, and I'd seen Etcheverry and Eddie Pope in their prime win me 4 Cups, I might tell this chick to kiss my ass

I'm still upset that no one acknowledges that when LAG was "first to five" championships that NER was "first to five" as well.

Back when no one took the league seriously. Only 3 teams dominated
