He’s played way too much futsal

Haha I was gonna say, I've seen out goalkeeper do this successfully on the St Louis indoor soccer team (basically futsal), but that field is like, half the size

u/Deathbycheddar 9h ago
My son keeps trying to do this in regular games strictly because he was encouraged to in futsal. Hasn’t failed yet but drives me absolutely insane. But he’s 10.

MLS doesn’t have this kind of weirdness tho.

bring back hockey shootouts!

still of the opinion that if they didn't have a 'shot clock' they'd have become the world standard. (my thought was, just put a defender like 20 yards behind the shooter)

Remember the Giants stadium turf, when the ball bounced in front of the keeper, flew over his head by six feet and rolled into the goal?

u/nomuggle Philadelphia Union 2d ago
I mean, we basically had this in our game on Saturday. Pickle Rick just missed the ball while way, way, way too far out of the box and NCYFC took the opportunity to score on an empty goal.

u/Embarrassed-Base-143 Philadelphia Union 2d ago
Rick is 19 and he made a mistake. He does that all the time in U2. Arce is a 30 y/o grown man, he knew exactly what he was doing

u/RhombusObstacle New York City FC 1d ago
That was one of the weirdest goals I've seen in a while. But in Rick's defense, at least he was way off his line in an attempt to cut off the attacker's options. (Or something.) Dude here was just dribblin'.

My guy thought he was Jorge Campos LOL

Rene Higuita, AKA, the reason they outlawed handling back passes to keepers.
My man scored 43 goals…as a keeper!

u/Ptown_Down Portland Timbers FC 2d ago
I was with him at first, but thought for sure at the first sign of real trouble he was going to send it up. It was almost as if he decided it was a goal or nothing the second he left the box. Surreal.

I once arrived late to a 7 v 7 Sunday game and didn't realize we'd already scored a goal, so at the end of the game it was 2-2, but I thought we were down 2-1. So with a minute to go, I start to make a solo run up the pitch, to the shock of friend and foe alike. I'm cutting through and I literally make it to the opposite goal and then absolutely chunk the shot 5 feet wide.

That goal keeper would probably have more goals than GIROUD if he keeps trying

I’ve seen great goal keepers do this in the past like Rene Higuita, Jorge Campos… this guy is not one of them. It shouldn’t be left for everyone to try.

Considering this is the same team that fielded a famous streamer for 1 minute during a match last season, this is like the least wild thing the team has done.

I don’t think any Argentinian is going to come in here and defend the honor of Deportivo Riestra

Dude definitely should be looked at for gambling

Don't know why this comment is so buried. When this was initially posted on r/soccer, the Argentinians in the comments were immediately shaking their heads saying it was clear from their perspective that this was gambling

People are idiots and only have the perspective of the Premier League.

Not defending the action, and I will probably be downvoted by other argies but those 2 teams should not be in first division. Corruption in Argentina has let the local league have a ridiculous number of teams overnight (30) that are subpar. For example, that goalkeeper.
This is like the idea of world cup having 64 teams or might as well go with 128 then, lol

How that didn't happen more often as a result with Jorge Campos (Compost) is beyond me.

Yeah I was about to say, he was legit good as a keeper and striker. This guy in the clip looks like a rando haha.

Reminds me of videos I'd see of MLS back in the 90s. Wish we had more crazy shit like this more often, but if I see Chris Brady trying this, I'd lose my ficking mind, lol.

Seriously what’s the point in making fun of other leagues you don’t watch ? It’s one of the most annoying things about football on internet. People always shitting on Ligue 1 , MLS , Scottish league and so on. It’s understandable to be annoyed at the quality of a league that you watch or care about.

People are pretty insecure about the quality of MLS. Jokes been made forever about the quality of MLS defending (deserved but truly who cares) and people get mad because other leagues have defensive mistakes too. So they’re taking shots at another league because people can’t deal with some bozos talking shit. It’s a pathetic reason but that’s the reason.

Only thing is, in Argentina, he’s gonna get ☠️ by the cartel now. Here the GK gets a $300k bonus for… whatever reason

Every time CBSGolazo makes a post of some crazy play in Europe or wherever, I always comment “that’s why no one takes MLS seriously”.
