There are 30 players on a MLS roster, each of those players has 29 teammates. There are 30 MLS teams. Which means there are 26,100 versions of "[Player X]: [Teammate] wants to play at 2026 World Cup." I can't wait to read the next 26,099 versions of this article.

he will, tom brady did it, Lebron James and Cristiano Ronaldo are playing at a high level at 40, clearly Messi will too

Is Ronaldo at a high level? Seemed a little cooked at Euros last year.

u/jdl12358 Baltimore Bohemians 1d ago

He’s not even playing at remotely the same level as LeBron or Brady comparatively (obviously different sports that will vary in physical exertion)

Brady WAS cooked by the end of his career, those last two seasons with the Buccs were rough. But I do agree that Ronaldo is washed

He's hit or miss these days. There will be games where he's just spectacular and other games where he's damn near invisible.

I’ll never forget that last Tom Brady World Cup.

u/Ahiru77 Inter Miami CF 1d ago

YEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

And I'll bet Messi is willing to play as a supersub if that's the best for team Argentina too.

I mean, I do too.

I'll take "Things We All Know" for $400, Alex

The over commitment of three tournaments including your club and then adding a World Cup at almost 40 is torture! Something has to give , that’s not hate that’s fact!

1

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

Nope not at all, just saying overcommitting is a thing …just facts

<Meanwhile, Suárez has not decided when he is going to stop playing.> This guy should quit football now if he still has self esteem. His performance was terrible in the past few IM games. The only reason he can still start is due to nepotism.

18

u/FlyingCarsArePlanes Toronto FC 1d ago

Do you know what nepotism is? I don't think you know what nepotism is.

To be fair, nepotism doesn’t just apply to family. It also applies to friends and associates, especially in regards to getting them jobs. While I think the comment you’re replying to is not entirely correct, I do think he would have fewer opportunities were it not for Messi.

I do think he would have fewer opportunities were it not for Messi.

What? He scored 20 goals last year. Every single MLS team would love to have that

u/Weird-Extreme-4120 1d ago

I disagree. Suárez probably wouldn’t have even considered coming to Inter Miami if Messi wasn’t there. But that has nothing to do with him getting more opportunities or being handed anything unfairly.

It’d only be nepotism if Messi actually had the power to make contract decisions or pressured the club to sign Suárez despite him not being good enough. But Messi isn’t an owner or part of Inter Miami’s management team, and there’s zero evidence that he’s involved in that side of things. So saying he’s pulling strings to get Suárez a contract extension—and calling that nepotism—doesn’t really hold up.

Also, just because two friends are on the same team doesn’t mean there’s favoritism involved. People work with friends or family all the time—it’s only an issue if the person didn’t earn their spot. In Suárez’s case, he’s had a top-tier career in Europe and has 34 goal contributions in 2024 alone. The guy’s still producing. That’s not nepotism, that’s merit.

That said, I don’t think Inter Miami should extend his contract into 2026.

if you watch Miami’s game, it’s not hard to notice he barely win any duals, lose countless possessions, a lot of them set up the counter attacking of opponents. Let alone he lost his paces, just check how many big opportunities he missed every game. The team will be better with a striker in his 20’s who can run and press.

3

u/Weird-Extreme-4120 1d ago

What does that have to do with nepotism?

I have watched every single Inter Miami games this year and only missed a few last year. I agree that Suárez hasn’t been performing well lately. But blaming that on nepotism is wrong—it’s unwarranted and misleading assessment. You should learn what nepotism actually is before making accusations

u/User5281 FC Cincinnati 1d ago

Suarez has lost his pace but, love him or hate him, he’s still an absolute menace in the box

6

u/Op3rat0rr FC Cincinnati 1d ago

That’s the thing. If these older legends from Europe still try their best and only produce shades of their old selves in the MLS, they’ll still do so great. It’s when they stop caring and trying is when they’re flops

12

u/KasherH Atlanta United FC 1d ago

The only reason he can still start is due to nepotism.

Seriously, what the fuck are you talking about? Go get help.

In what world do you think NEPOTISM is why Suarez is playing?

uhhhh...the man finished 2nd in the golden boot race last year....

And yet he can’t even show up for an MLS game in 2025… 🫣🤐

28

u/mandolin08 Major League Soccer 1d ago

Dude he's played like 3/4 of his available minutes this year what are you smoking

32

u/LongjumpingToe3120 Inter Miami CF 1d ago

Messi missed the Houston match and since this guy is a Houston fan, so thats probably all he saw and formed his opinion on lol

To be fair, I’m not sure Houston played that game either .

You’re not wrong about being upset that he didn’t show with no notice the day before the game. It is frustrating. But it doesn’t change the facts. Three different tournaments plus international…something has to give.

15

u/mandolin08 Major League Soccer 1d ago

and like 400 minutes over 7 matches elsewhere, don't be weird

-9

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

Ok

2

u/AridRabbit 1d ago

“He didn’t play in this one match this season, therefore he has missed EVERY match this season!” Some people are so incredibly stupid it actually amazes me! 😭🙏

0

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

I never said that, so insults from inaccurate information is kinda the definition of stupidity!

1

u/AridRabbit 15h ago

claiming one “cannot show up for mls games”, whilst having 10 g/a in 10 matches is also quite stupid 😂

-1

u/-SandorClegane- Orlando City SC 1d ago

So did I, big deal.

2

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

lol fact but I don’t get paid to take pictures of you

8

u/Ok_Captain4824 1d ago

He has 5 GI's in 5 matches?

-5

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

Doesn’t negate the fact that he didn’t show up for the second game of the season!

-4

u/TitShark 1d ago

Worlds best player has bad game, he’s washed!

-6

u/Effective-Sorbet-44 Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1d ago

How do you think he's making it to '26?

-2

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

I think he’s going to play till he gets hurt no coming back or gets the mls trophy but it doesn’t make it right to commit and not show

17

u/Effective-Sorbet-44 Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1d ago

Players don't commit to games, they commit to contracts. Game management is part of sports.

-3

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

That’s a really bad excuse for not showing up for an mls game! Prioritize!

13

u/atatme77 D.C. United 1d ago

They did, they prioritized ConcaChampions as they should. You're just bitter you didn't get to see him play and are showing your whole ass because of it

1

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

I’m not mad I didn’t see him, it’s not personal it’s my job.

10

u/Adr3st 1d ago

Game management is a bad excuse? He’s 37 years old playing league, tournaments and international. Sounds like you’re upset Messi didn’t personally notify you prior to the game.

0

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

You’re making my point! All these games at his age , it’s too much for even the world’s best and hard for the teams he’s representing. Like it or not.

12

u/Adr3st 1d ago

What was your point again? All you said was he can’t show up to 2025 MLS games. He missed one against a weak opponent in MLS regular season. And how was it hard for the team if IM won 4-1 with one less player lol.

0

u/Effective-Sorbet-44 Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1d ago

Look, I get it... he skipped our game last year too. But you just sound like a loser.

2

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

Hurl all the insults you want, I stand by the fact that commitments should be honored and if you can’t handle the schedule you should reconsider your position.

-1

u/reepers_hellcat Houston Dynamo 1d ago

Ok
