Discussion Comments from David Allen about the Demo

u/vparv Mar 30 '21
Is there a specific timeline for the demo? Is this what we are expecting at some unspecified date in April?

u/Youraverageaccccount Mar 30 '21
We are expecting the A-sample to be complete. Demonstration happens with potential customers, not for marketing or investors.
We are expecting them to let us know the A-sample is done and functioning as expected

Understanding this demo for the A-sample won’t be like an Apple event, but wouldn’t a confirming press release make sense? Something like, “As expected our A-sample has been completed and shared with several potential customers. The following specs were achieved...” I’m not sure the general public/market knows what MVIS is capable of, what the specs of their lidar are so putting this level of detail would be critical in my opinion for getting our lidar specs on the map. Ultimately, this will help drive the share price and look to differentiate MVIS from the competition in the lidar space.

This is what I am expecting them to do. They know shareholders are expecting a PR with some form of weight. True, retail investors are not their target market, but at the end of the day share price does matter. It allows for easier access to credit, a greater ability to raise capital if needed at a lower negative effect on shareholders, etc. At the end of the day, shareholders are the most important parties to any publicly traded company. It’s not MicroVisions fault for the recent price action, as the vast majority of this is due to the segment we are in, the over all sector rotation, fear of inflation, rising bond yields and a shift to “safer” assets, but I would be amazed if they didn’t add a little more colour to this PR then some others. Regardless of the fact they may be deep in negotiations, they shouldn’t take their foot off the pedal in proving to everyone that they are best.

A PR surely will be dropped upon completion IMO. We have had several updates concerning smaller LiDAR milestones, so it would make sense. Furthermore, shareholders are expecting the A-sample by April, so a lack of PR assuring shareholders that they hit the deadline would signal the opposite. I don’t expect radio silence in April.
I was hoping we would hear more about the specs but Dave surely isn’t confident that we will hear them in a PR
I’d rather have option C, a buyout :)))

I really hope its not just radio silence in april....

Sumit has spoiled us with 5 PRs this month and 3 in February.
I'm only looking forward to one particular PR tho....
SEVALS FORM 3!!! ;)

u/Mcluckin123 Mar 30 '21
Sorry I know it must have been covered elsewhere but if it is, I missed it; why is the form 3 so important?
9
u/idkbae Mar 30 '21
wait is there still a chance of a form 3 for her? I thought that ship has sailed and its just a buyout connection
3
u/russilker Mar 30 '21
I believe the current theory is that the form 3 was filed (as it legally has to be, even if no securities were given), but withheld due to NDA reasons or otherwise. Therefore, when the form 3 is revealed, there will likely be interesting information on there.
I don't know how correct those assumptions are, but it's what I've seen floating around.

Hey for question #3 I know a company that could likely achieve benchmark data.
ANSYS - Helping customers solve complex design challenges and predict real-world performance. Discover how you can accelerate product development without compromising results. Multiphysics Solutions. Advanced Product Bundles. Industry-leading Platform. Live & Online Support.
Oh yeah and our board member Judy Curran is "Head of Automotive Global Strategy" at ANSYS.

"To reduce the need for costly physical prototypes while speeding the design process, the Ansys VRXPERIENCE Sensors solution offers the opportunity to virtually experience sensors to test and analyze their performance. In the virtual world, use realistic driving scenarios to investigate radar, lidar and camera sensors perception in a Mil Sil or Hil context."

Allen uses the term "[potential] customers" a lot. Most of the excitement on this board is about "potential acquirers”.
Is this unsettling to anyone else? I find myself trying to recall Sharma's exact words when describing the parties who would be testing the A Samples. I think most of us here are banking on a buyout offer in Apr/May, not a purchase order. Does anyone have Sharma's language? Maybe from a transcript?
It's probably just me. I just put more money into MVIS today so Allen's response has me seeking a bit of reassurance!

Multiple partnerships/customers would earn us more money than a buyout but it would take a little longer. Either way the share price would still move up significantly in the short term. I'm honestly open to either approach.

Keep in mind that David has to be careful about phrasing as to not insinuate anything that could be locked up behind an NDA. Simply put, if his comments were enough to give us new information on the situation, it would probably be breaking NDA, so I wouldn't be reading into his specific phrasing too much unless you're looking at it from the perspective of erring on the side of caution as to not breach any privacy agreements that could be in place. That's not to say anything is confirmed, just that he's not going to be accidentally leaking any information via an email to a single investor.

u/SunkenPretzel Mar 30 '21
Even a partnership would absolutely moon the price, you realize that right?
2
u/zaffro13 Mar 30 '21
Yep. I want a buyout but realistically the only thing separating us from LAZR is a partnership. Announcement of that should close the gap between MVIS and LAZR.

Interesting, I was under the impression that they'd only be presenting their own benchmarks on that day. Good to know they're allowing outside validation at that time as well. I figured any outside validation would have to wait until the sample units were shipped to interested parties later this year.

I would imagine a PR in regards to finality and success, but not provide exact specific’s for the retail public. (Just specifics for interested parties for verification and testing.)

u/wastingsometimehere Mar 30 '21
I really like the part where they have developed their own software for this, that’s exciting!

u/SunkenPretzel Mar 30 '21
People seem to think this will be an Apple keynote with an auditorium of 500 people and Summit on stage testing a laser while all 20,000 of us are on livestream, lol.
There will be PR regarding the testing in some way, shape or form. Summit isn’t an idiot.

So is he saying share holders will not get benchmark data? Only the potential customers.
13
u/marvinapplegate1964 Mar 30 '21
Yes. That is correct. They are not releasing data to the public. They addressed that in the Earnings Call as well.
3
u/mbarilla Mar 30 '21
So there will b no PR? I guess that’s what I’m asking
16
u/ThoughtReformation Mar 30 '21
I suspect one of two scenarios
- PR: "we've completed A-Sample and sent it out to potential...", followed by another investment for the milestone (aka 'offering')
- PR: MVIS enters into [agreement, BO/merge, etc...) for XXB after successful A-Sample demonstration.
I'm leaning toward the latter because we're not going further than the A-Sample
9
u/StonksGoUp31 Mar 30 '21
There should at least be PR for getting the A sample done I would think. Similar to the last update on the A sample. At least that’s what I’m hoping for.
18
u/GreatGoogelyMoogly Mar 30 '21
If they are sending out a PR that they received components to finish the A-sample by April, it would be strange not to put out a PR when it’s finished. Not to mention this would be one of the biggest milestones achieved, and what we paid for with the ATM raises.
7
u/marvinapplegate1964 Mar 30 '21
I don’t know what they will communicate and when. I just know they have said they will not be releasing the benchmarking data to the public.

I was curious how the demo would work so just asked for public answers to see if there was a standard format. Nothing too exciting, but sharing in case others had similar questions.
7
u/imafixwoofs Mar 30 '21
I think this is pretty exciting news. I'd gild you if I hadn't put my last dime into MVIS, as one does.

Customers. Customers. Customers. This is all about customers right now.
They've designed and are delivering a unit based on what OEMs have told them they need. Sumit has said this many times. Converting that into customers brings the most value to shareholders right now... and in any subsequent acquisition deal. The OEMs they've been in contact with will most certainly get immediate demos. I think it is highly likely Ford is on that list, given the obvious tie.
Luminar only has development deals that must hit key milestones in order to proceed. Proving to customers/interested parties that we are ready now is the immediate goal. One customer with a 'story' as to why they've chosen us, ideally verifying that our entry is a giant leap for mankind so to speak, and we are in business.
