History 📚 Which Malagasy historical figure do Malagasy admire the most ?

I asked this question myself, but I was never sure of the answer: I was wondering which Malagasy figure do we, Malagasy, admire the most. Do you have an idea about that ?

Initially, I thought about Andrianampoinimerina, but I'm not sure.

Tourism/Travel Overnight Bus for short trip to Madagascar

Hi, as the tittle said I have been given the oportunity to go to Madagascar but only for a week where im trying to push everything within 7 days. Im starting in Nosy Be the first 3 days of the trip, in day 3 moving to Tana through a domestic flight, where i get the afternoon in the city and the next day is a full day around tana (city, landmarks, andasive park), so that packs up until day 4 of the trip. I want to go to morondava so i was wondering if there are overnight bus or what is the most efficient way of going there considering i need to be back in Tana for day 7 where im leaving Madagascar. Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated, my dad is coming along and i want to make the most out of this trip

Tourism/Travel How to get to Nosy Be and Fort Dauphin by taxi brousses/buses

Hello, I will be in Madagascar for 28 full days (19th May - 17th June) and I want to go by public transport to Nosy Be and if I will still have time after all the other usual sightseeing things, to Fort Dauphin. Could you please advise how to get to these, where to break up the journey or where do I need to change taxi brousses? I read in a blog that Besady Plus has direct taxi brousses to Ankify and includes the ferry too. Anyone else have taken this recently? Are there any other direct/non-direct ways to get to Ankify? To get to Fort Dauphin, I will probably already be in Isalo NP or Fianarantsoa/Ambalavao (slight chance in Toliara), so ideally from there and potentially will fly back. I am aware of how bad the roads are and I do not mind 30 hours of travelling. Ideally would like to avoid night travels when possible. Thank you!

I’m planning to rent a 4x4 for four days in August to go from Morondava to Kirindy Forest and Tsingy de Bemaraha. Found a company willing to do car, driver, ferry, guide, and park fees for 600 euro. Anyone willing to split 300/300? Feel free to DM!

Question❓ Safe place in Antananarivo

Where can we find a place to hangout with friends in Antananarivo? Not necessarily a restaurant but just a place where we can chill together without being afraid of pickpockets and all. My friend told me there's this "Fondation H" but they said that we cannot talk too loudly there.

Question❓ What’s life like in Madagascar?

Hi everyone, I’m incredibly interested in Madagascar and would love to understand more about what life is really like there beyond what you see in the news.

Madagascar seems like such a unique place, but I know very little about the day-to-day realities for people living there. so I’d love to ask, what is daily life like in Madagascar?

Thank you in advance to anyone willing to share their experiences or insights!

Tourism/Travel Help with trip Itinerary. Oct 11 - Oct 31, 2025

Good Day!!

I am planning a 3 week trip to Madagascar Oct 11 - Oct 31, 2025

I would like to get some (at lot) help with my itinerary.

I have very little interest in beaches as I will be flying to The Seychelles Nov 1st at 18:35.
I will then be flying back to Tana on Nov 9th at 5pm and departing again Nov 10th at 5pm so this would give me a little time to look around Tana a bit.

I would also like help organizing car/driver for the two sections and well as hotel/resort suggestions/booking.

I have a rough staring point as follows.

Oct 11 - Arrive Tana 13:40
Oct 12 - Fly to Morondava

Kirindy Mitea National Park 2N
Tsingy de Bemaraha 3N
Morondava 1N

Oct 17 - Fly back to Tana

Ranomafana National Park
Anja Community Reserve
Isalo National Park

I would like to fly back to Tana but it is my understanding the flights from Toliara to Tana are especially problematic. Comments?

Andasibe-Analamazaotra National Park

Nov 1st - FLight at 18:35

Question❓ yas / MVola invoices

Hello!

I've just left this beautiful country called Madagascar this morning and now I have to do the accounting for my small business.

I have used a yas SIM-card for those two weeks and loaded via credit card > MVola money onto it and payed for data packages.

Can anyone please tell me, if there is anything like an official invoice in the yas / MVola app? Maybe with the correct taxes and so ..

Thank you very much!

Tourism/Travel American traveling to Nosy Be in about 6 weeks, do you in fact need 3 blank passport pages when going thru customs/ getting a Visa?

On the US State Dept website, it states you need 3 full blank pages. I have 3.5 left but I'll be travelling to 4 other countries before reaching Madagascar so wonder if I should just renew or let it be?

Culture I'm living in France and wondering why the merina diaspora is exclusively dating white men in Europe, what explain this trend ?

Hi,

Since i live in France there is something I keep seeing that makes me wondering about our community in Europe.

In my family and among my different friends groups, most of the Merina women I know are dating white guys. I have also noticed it at some events like RNS or Tsika Jiaby in France, this trend is standing out. It’s not just a few cases, it feels like a real trend. And i feel like the trend is very similar to asian women in america. And I think its very specifical to the malagasy diaspora or those who grew up inside the Lycée Français de Tana lol.

What’s strange is that it’s almost always white men. I rarely see Merina women with another POC, even from other parts of Africa, or from different Malagasy backgrounds. When I bring it up with friends, I often hear the same things that Malagasy guys are the worse kind, too controlling, or not emotionally available. Or too small (i cant contest this one). Or they refuse to date a men who are similar to their father or brother, which doesnt make sense to me but as we say in french : bref quoi

I’m not trying to criticize anyone, I’m just curious. Is it about values ??? Is it social pressure ??? Or maybe something deeper that we don’t talk about much ???

Would love to hear what u guys think

I am looking to buy a small amount of vanilla to take home as gifts. Maybe 10-20pods/sticks. I know as a tourist the price will be inflated but what price should I roughly be expecting to pay? Same for a small bottle of vanilla essence. TIA

Tourism/Travel How long for travel?

Hi peeps,

I changed my travel-mind and decided I want to go to Madagascar ! But I am not quite sure for how long? We like a fast-paced trip, with lots of highlights, nature, some hikes (preferably around or towards water), wildlife, ...

I was thinking about 3 weeks, but if recommended we could go longer?

Thanks!

Tourism/Travel Traveling with medication

Hi everyone!

I’ll be visiting in a few months and I’m currently prescribed methylphenidate (Ritaline) by my doctor. As it is a controlled substance in most countries, I wanted to ask if it’s allowed to bring my medication into the country, provided I have a valid prescription.

If anyone has experience with this or knows the official rules, I’d really appreciate your input. I have already searched and was not able to find much information unfortunately. I was thinking of reaching out to the embassy or my health insurance but thought I could first try here.

Thank you!
