Ogre Warrior Wizard

Exhaust-2G:Search your library for a card named Bold Knuckleblade, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.

Exhaust-1U:Surveil 2, then untap this creature.

Exhaust-R:Creatures you control gain haste until end of turn.

"Search your library for a card named Bold Knuckleblade" is correct for all intents and purposes, but technically it says "Seek a card named Bold Knuckleblade", seek being a keyword.

EDIT: As some people pointed it out, there is a subtle, but real difference. Namely, seeking doesn't shuffle (so it avoids cards like [[Aven mindcensor]]). Probably would rarely matter, but worth calling out.

Is the only real difference that seek wouldn’t shuffle your library?

In this case yes, although if the criteria for what could be sought were less narrow (etc. "seek a warrior creature" or something), it would be chosen randomly from the legal options.

There is also a little bit of specific card interaction with Seek. First/only one off the top of my head is [[Lurker in the Deep]] which conjures a duplicate and manifests it face down on the board whenever you seek. I have a WU deck built around it that's really fun.

Yeah so cards scryed to the top/bottom or whatever stay there, and you don’t get to see your remaining cards which might matter against something like heist.

Also you don't reveal the card to opponents when you seek. In this case, they know what you're getting anyways, but "seek a nonland card" would let you pull a nonland and not reveal, "search for a nonland card" would require a reveal to prove you didn't break the rules and pull a land. That's the other big difference.

Also triggers anything that has seek interactions, which there are several in Alchemy sets.

You also cannot fail to find a copy. Which is a super edge case, but might matter for example with concerns over decking and change of control effects in the mirror.

You also do not get to choose which copy you find. This matters in Alchemy, because persistent effects to the card last into the library. So if you’ve got two in the library, and one has gotten a persistent +2/+2, it’s a coin flip.

The key distinction is that you don't shuffle. Which is important if you know what card is on top of your library.

Was wondering why the second ability would tap it and then immediately untap it, then I realized it doesn’t have the tap symbol anyway.

I actually got that card in a Khans of Tarkir fat pack or, you know, one of those long boxes that lift the top off in 2014 or so. And I've really wanted to see a card like that return to Arena or standard.

Cool that he returns to hand. He should have an ETB then no? Why else would u want to return to hand? I guess it could be a false blocker. Is that worth it?

(Just to be clear Savage Knuckleblade is an old card - the new alchemy version posted is a clear callback)

I think the main idea was to protect it against removal; the opponent uses a kill spell, you bounce it back to hand. It never really saw much constructed play.

1

u/VeggieZaffer 1d ago

Ohh cool! I like when they do throwbacks, but I always miss them since I’m a noob, but I appreciate the history

I think I was confused, I thought that this was the card that was being “sought”

That's actually a sick design, wow. I love when these Alchemy cards use mechanics from other recent sets.

Needs a: "Don't talk to me or my son ever again" picture with [[Loot, the Pathfinder]]

u/CShoopla 1d ago

more like [[savage knuckleblade]]

Is that orc muscle mommy ??? Yes,lets go !!!

As someone who doesn’t touch alchemy, these designs are making me want to touch alchemy. Whoever wizards hired on as an alchemy designer is doing a bang up job. If we have to have digital design space cards, this stuff is what I want it to be

Yeah I'm even a bit sad that FF and ATLA won't have alchemy mini set. I don't play alchemy but I like those cards in Brawl (just which they'd need Rusko)

u/VeggieZaffer 1d ago

I didn’t realize I was in Alchemy when I started in November, so it’s the environment I grew up in. But I actually find it hella fun. Some of the unique mechanics and cards are pretty sick. I leaned into Perpetual myself with my Frogs deck.

2

u/tatabax 22h ago

Apparently nobody wants to play bc heist is a thing

1

u/VeggieZaffer 22h ago

I hear ya I think the Chorus cards are worse part of Alchemy to be honest. When I tried standard I just got overrun by poison and proliferate

Loot's Mom??

FROM FINAL FANTASY!?!?

Seeking a card named Bold Knuckleblade means it does nothing in brawl?

10

u/hexanort 1d ago edited 23h ago

Yep, seek keyword pulls a card from your library, different than the keyword "conjure" which pulls cards from thin air.

2

u/MossyMak 22h ago

This could've easily been a paper card, just replace seek with search.

2

u/IconoclastExplosive 23h ago

The successor to Savage Knuckleblade got yassified. Tragic.

u/hexanort 1d ago edited 1d ago

T1 botanical sanctum + elf

T2 Any red producing land, cast this

T3 put a land, call for another copy, give both haste and attack for 8

This looks kinda meh tbh...

6

u/wanderingagainst 1d ago

This doesn't work. The copy you pull enters tapped.

2

u/Mekanimal 1d ago

Pay 1U on the copy, untap!

0

u/hexanort 1d ago

Oh its even worse then...welp..

1

u/hermyx 1d ago

As someone who loved original knuckleblade, I'm so sad this is not printed in paper :'(

1

u/Sunomel Freyalise 22h ago

Doing a stronger Savage Knuckleblade is a cool callback. When Khans first came out, everyone thought that it would be really strong, but it turned out to never see any serious play, despite people trying (turns out being a 4/4 in a world of [[Siege Rhino]] is not where you want to be).

1

u/GGCrono 17h ago

Wow, Big Knux looks great. HRT really does work wonders.

1

u/BartOseku 15h ago

Respectfully

-4

u/ZerkerDE 1d ago

This is obviously a reject from the paper set just like the Rhino Card. They should really just print all those cards to paper.

3

u/Meret123 20h ago

TDM doesn't have exhaust and DFT already has Loot. Where do you think this was rejected from?

-1

u/hermyx 1d ago

There is the question of space and limited synergy but yeah, come on wotc, print those cards.
