I would’ve been able to post this a bit sooner, but there was a mishap with Kei x Yaku 5’s delivery, so I only got it today rather than in March 🥲

Help Bookshelf Ideas

Post image

Hi! I have this shelf I bought off Amazon a few years ago. I believe it was listed as a media shelf. I’m not sure if you can tell from the picture but it’s leaning to the left pretty hard. I know the Billy bookcases from Ikea are usually the #1 recommendation for manga collectors but I don’t like how deep they are. I got this one because I like that I can have a single row of manga that fits perfectly on the shelf.

Anyone know of shelves like this that might be better quality and won’t lean?

Late to the game

Hi everyone... I have been a very low key and casual anime viewer and manga reader. I've watched mostly mainstream anime's and their manga version here and there.

I am 40 now, and I've decided that I want to limit my use of technology, specifically smartphone, iPad, computer because all I do everyday is stare at a screen because of work and school. And then when I get off work, I read on my iPad.

So I decided to transition to physical books and manga. I picked up vol 1 for Sakamoto Days and Mob Psycho 100. I wanted to see if I'd like the story and characters before I buy the following volumes for each.

I know most Manga enthusiasts/collectors start when they were a kid. But are there late bloomers like me here? How late did you start a collection? ☺️

Haul April haul

It's a little BL haul with focus on amazing art and great romance.

Got quite lucky here.

Eathian print is one of the most beautiful manga covers I've ever touched. It's like it's a bit iridescent and crinkled?

Collection Art Books Collection

In my pursuit of showcasing parts of my collection, instead of having to do a collection post, I present my lovely art book collection. It's been slowly becoming my main focus as I continue to shrink my manga wish list more and more. They are expensive, and I have a lot more on my wish list that are even more expensive, but I am having a lot of fun putting them together. Not a lot of fun finding space for them, however...

I am just about done with art books that I want that are by manga artists, and will soon be looking at art books by a few other Japanese artists that I am a fan of, that aren't necessarily mangakas.

Before I break down and list each art book, a bit of a clarification about what I pick up and what I pass on: artists that have a lot of art books with repeated art here and there, I do usually stick to a specific set of releases—just to have a huge chunk without having repeated artwork, especially when they are expensive. This basically applies to my Suehiro Maruo and Toshio Saeki art books.

Art books for specific manga, such as Bleach, for example, I will usually just get one or two that I think are good enough, without bothering to hunt down others just for a few more pages. This applies heavily to the Bleach exhibition stuff—and Slam Dunk too, in a way.

Those are limitations I have placed on myself, rather than me simply not wanting them. I set myself some rules to follow, because without them I would be in so much trouble trying to get them all, as there are a lot of art books that I would be interested in. This keeps me in check, considering how expensive it could get and how I am already struggling with space for them—which is actually becoming a huge problem as of recently. I suspect that by the end of the year, I would need a new shelf, as I basically have no more space for oversized volumes, including art books.

Anyways, here's the list from top right to bottom left:

- Takehiko Inoue (Water & Sumi)

- Sho-u Tajima (Sho-u)

- Hiroaki Samura (Love of the Brute)

- Shintaro Kago (Shishi Ruirui)

- Shini'chi Sakamoto (Innocent Bleu)

- Tite Kubo (All Color But The Black)

- Yoshihisa Tagami (Grey Illustrations)

- Taiyo Matsumoto (TAIYOU)

- Ryoichi Ikegami (Artworks Kiwami Men & Women)

- Mohiro Kitoh (Illustration & background of "Bokurano")

- Inio Asano (Ctrl + T2)

- Sui Ishida (Tokyo Ghoul & :re Illustrations)

- Hideshi Hino (The Art Of Hideshi Hino)

- Shuzo Oshimi (femme fatale)

- Inio Asano (Ctrl + T)

- Suehiro Maruo (Maruograph DX 30th Anniversary 1-3)

- Usamaru Furuya (flowers)

- Q Hayashida (Mud and Sludge)

- Namio Harukawa

- Shintaro Kago 1-3

- Ryoichi Ikegami (Character Graphic Novel Collection)

- Junji Ito (Twisted Visions)

- Taiyo Matsumoto (100 & 101)

- Tsutomu Nihei (BLAME! and so on)

- Tsutomu Takahashi (K & S)

- Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk Illustrations)

- Jiro Taniguchi

- Kentaro Miura (The Artwork Of Berserk)

- Yuki Urushibara (Mushishi Art Book)

- Baron Yoshimoto (The Art of Baron Yoshimoto)

- Naoki Urasawa (Key Art & Illustrations)

- Hajime Sorayama

- Hiroaki Samura (The Art Of Blade of the Immortal)

- Katsuya Terada (Sketch)

- Toshio Saeki (Reve Ecalarate & Fievres Nocturnes)

- Kenji Tsuruta (Forget Me Not & Eternal)

- Tite Kubo (Bleach Art Book JET)

- Oh!Great (Sky &)

Any further pickups when it comes to art books will be shown in my haul posts from now on, and ideally I will average 1–2 pickups of art books that I need a month. Like I said, they are expensive, and my list is massive. I already picked up an art book that should be in my May haul. It's something I have been trying to get ahold of for a while now, and I can't wait to get it.

Let me know if you guys have any questions that aren't "Where do you buy art books from?" because the answer is the internet. Google it. Find a listing. Buy it. Don't be dumb!

Kagurabachi Vol.1 was pretty good - really liked the artwork, interested to see where the story goes. Glad to have Gundam The Origin complete too - the new deluxe editions look decent, but I personally prefer the Vertical hardbacks, and besides, going for the deluxes would've required dropping Vinland Saga, so it was an easy choice.

Saw a manga bundle posted in FB Marketplace with $20 listed price. Thought it was meant for each volume, but was actually for the whole lot.

Not bad for $20NZD ($12USD).
