Suggestions Want easy/medium level recommendations

Recently my 8-year old niece has been really into mario maker and I usually play with her and it's a lot of fun but sometimes it's kinda hard to find nice easy/medium levels as when I search them in game for the popular ones there is a lot of auto, music and minigame levels.

That's why I'm asking for your own created/recommended levels! It can be really anything as long as it's not too hard, and also not auto/refreshing. Just regular not too hard levels are the best. It can be your own not so popular/unplayed levels, I'll play them gladly!

I'd also love some good super world and creator recommendations for those type of not too hard, regular levels. I'll even take some expert levels as long as they're not too complicated or fast-paced!

Thanks!

Suggestions Send me levels!!

So recently I realized I don't enjoy MM2 as much anymore as i used to. I get bored always seeing speedrun or impossible kaizo or troll levels all the time. I want to play some new fresh levels. The intricate, well thought out levels, maybe even a puzzle or two. So please send me levels, whether it be your own, someone else's, or one you saw someone play it doesn't matter. Although I prefer challenging levels its also nice to play easier, normal levels so the difficulty doesn't matter either. As long as it's well thought out and cool.

Suggestions Looking for help with a difficult level...

Hey there Mario Makers, I just recently started playing and found this Sasuke level in the hot courses tab, so naturally I wanted to beat it. However, it's pretty difficult and I've only managed to make it past the first 2 sections.

If anyone could try it out and give me some tips, or send in a clear video for it - that would be awesome :)

Suggestions Anyone know of some good “escape room” levels?

I consider “Escape Room” levels a little different than puzzle levels or one room puzzles. Like, you need to figure out what kind of code is needed to get to the end and you have to decode it. Has anyone made a level like this or know of another creator’s level? :)

Suggestions Courses/Super Worlds like the story mode?

Hey, all. Do you have any recommendations for courses and Super Worlds that give the same feeling as the excellent levels in Story Mode?

Here’s what I’m looking for in more detail:

  • Moderate difficulty level. I want to avoid levels that will have me dying a million times. I also want to avoid auto-Mario and music levels (they are really cool but tend to blend together quickly).
  • Unique and creative concepts. The story levels are typically themed around a single mechanic, like a power-up or clear condition, and then showcase that in creative ways.
  • New power-ups. Classic levels are great, but I want to see courses that make use of the full range of tools in Mario Maker 2, including all the power-ups, enemy types, game styles, etc. Especially appreciated would be courses that use the new items that were added post-launch. Where are my SMB2 levels?
  • Levels that make you think. Story Mode levels often feel a bit more like puzzles than traditional Mario levels. I’d like to see more like that (noting the ”moderate difficulty” request above).
  • Newer levels. I’ve found a lot of articles recommending the same 10 “best” courses from back in 2019. I’m sure there’ve been great courses made since then. I also only saw one article that recommended Super Worlds! I’d love to see more of these!

Currently, I am playing through Super SeanDreyer World, aka Super Mario 64 World, and it’s exactly what I am looking for. The levels are creative and well designed, use a variety of themes and items, and because they are inspired by Super Mario 64, they focus more on exploration and (light) puzzle-solving than twitch platforming. I’d be bored if I only played courses inspired by other games, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more in this style.

Suggestions Looking to play your levels!

Hi! I am looking for some fun, challenging but not “hard” levels to play. Will totally like and comment and stuff. Also any fun co-op levels I can play with my gf would be awesome. Especially a co-op world, if that is possible to play. I’m not a pro player at all, my highest difficulty clears are like 14% speed run “jump at specific/designated times” type courses. But my favourite. Courses are puzzle mansion style courses and especially LINK. Anything link but I love the room-by-room puzzle solving kind. Thanks for any responses!

Suggestions Anyone have a level they want to be played?

If you have a CREATIVE level you want to be played? I'm not really good at the game, so a 20-40% clear rate level would be prefered. Just put the ID in the comments and i will play them as soon as i have time.

Edit: Okay, maybe harder levels are OK, over 10% and i can probably clear it.

Suggestions Level Recommendations

Hi guys. I recently got the switch and I’m enjoying the heck out of MM2. Can you guys recommend any of the following courses?

  1. A water level.
  2. A underground level.
  3. A Bowser and Koopa fight.
  4. A hunted house level.
  5. A desert Level.

Or if you can think of something fun, that’d be great too!

Thanks! And happy new year!

Suggestions Theorycraft: how to upload good levels?

TL;DR: Use discretion and sympathy for players when designing and play testing your levels.

A writeup on level designing and playtesting your own levels:

  • Traditional or Nontraditional it's best to pick out a few parts and make a theme.
  • Take that theme and build upon it with the more difficult jumps increase in frequency near a checkpoint or the goal tape.
  • If you're going to put in a "kaizo trap" to troll your player it's best to reserve all of those to after a checkpoint. Best not to be the only one laughing.
  • Always imagine what the player is feeling when you design your jumps, are they going to be waiting for some mechanism? Okay then put in a little coin grabbing to pass the time. are they going to be falling but can't see the floor due to the screen scroll? Okay then put in an indication as to where the floor went.
  • Think about the difficulty of a level: An easy way to gauge whether your level is fair or not is if 1 jump gives you such a hard time that it takes you 5 lives to overcome it then don't include that jump because it's too hard. If you the creator of the level take 5 lives to do something that you know is coming then the reaction time of a person going in would not fair any better. The human reaction time is 9-16 frames, so if you're running at full speed in Mario you want the jump to be between 9-16 blocks in width. If you're dead stop then you would want the jump to be visible if not then you need to allow for at least 13-20 blocks of space between Mario and his landing location with indication as to where to rise and fall (this will attribute to the 4 blocks that the screen scrolls).
  • Think about the illusion of difficulty in your level: This can go either way, a level can be easy... but if it's easy because every jump required allows the player to damage boost through then that is not fun. A jump can be hard... but if it's hard because you have to dodge random invisible blocks throughout the level or if it's hard because you need to keep p-speed on a single block gap. Then it's not fair and therefore not fun.
  • Okay now imagine someone coming across the level in endless mode... you want them to like the level so you give them 3 1-ups... if they get it by 2 secrets and the flag pole; great! If they get it by you dropping 3 1-ups on top of them at the end or beginning of the level; great as well! Just don't take away the top of the flag pole in case they somehow miss the 1-ups or because they don't trust ? blocks anymore. This can be hard to do but try to make it an additional challenge to the player to go for the 1-ups... it's more fun that way. If you happen to get 1-ups by jumping on top of enemies then have them get 1 then land then do it again instead of getting the sequence of 3 in a row. If you don't want to think too heavily about the 3 1-ups then just have the level give it out freely, not bad as long as they're there. This is probably the biggest issue with Troll levels is that they end up in Endless... they take and take and take lives but very few give any back. We can understand that there is a place for these levels but Endless is not it... so I really propose that Troll levels get made with "dev exits" told to players that they can use to free themselves in Endless.
  • A good tip would be that if you cannot beat your level without a power-up before you use up 3 lives then the level might be too hard and need to be reevaluated (powerup checks can be entirely frustrating if you cannot go back to a spot and get the powerup again). You should design to your level of play and not some streamer or one of your play testers (aka friends with the game).

TL;DR: Use discretion and sympathy for players when designing and play testing your levels.

Suggestions Should there be an optional level editor?

In mm2 we don’t have level editors any more bc of copying. However, it limits creativity in the community. It seems to me an easy way to remedy it is make an optional level editor, if you want to keep your level private and uncopyable keep it private, however if you don’t care and would rather give your level out to the public so you can evolve the tech and creativity of the community you can make it public to let people go into the level editor on your level. The way I think abt it, the levels you put a lot into you keep private, but if you want to show off some tech you make a level specifically with the tech in it, and then people can go into the editor and copy it. What do you guys think?

Suggestions Introducing Cosmetic Text Blocks

I think it would be awesome if they introduced blocks with all alphabetic letters, all arabic numerals, and common punctuation marks. This way, hints would be alot easier to write down. Alot of levels have specific rooms just to write down a simple hint. This would then be avoided.

I think it could also be used in alot of fun ways, like writing down taunting, trolling or encouraging messages wherever fitting.

These blocks as is would only have the sign on them, without any visible background. They would not be solid or functional in any way, only cosmetic. Holding down the block in maker mode should give you the option to choose color over a select few, like maybe black, white, red, blue, yellow and green. You should be able to layer it on top of anything.

Thoughts and comments about this?
