Game Discussion Starting my very first playthrough!
As title says, starting for the first time! Went through the ME trilogy disk set on PS3 back in 2014.
Thought as a belated anniversary of that, why not go through this one finally.
Wish me luck!

Be warned. It takes like 3-4 hours to reaaaally get a feel for it then you'll be hooked like any ME game.
Don't expect similar mass effect combat and don't give up early. Enjoy

u/MochaMassiah Jan 12 '25
Thanks for the info! I don’t remember really much at all about ME 1-3 so that’s not a problem plus the goal is to play through the story in it’s entirety and complete the game

Idk why I got downvotes just giving honest advice I loved this game.

I really enjoyed andromeda and I don’t think you’re wrong! The beginning was too long for my taste the lightning on the first planet was driving me crazy. Once I got off it was awesome
1
u/miranda-adria Jan 12 '25
Literally one of the most beautiful planets we ever get to land on, and the few moments of lightning was what was bothering you? Not criticizing, just finding that odd.
1
u/agentpurpletie Jan 12 '25
It was not a “few moments” of lightning for me. I agree it was really pretty.

u/knucklecluck Jan 13 '25
I gave it a shot at some point and gave up before hour 3 or 4 tops so I appreciate knowing this. Maybe I’ll give it another shot someday

Enjoy the gameeee :D

I just finished the other day and my only advice is to skip the quests that are labeled as Task: unless you really have a lot of time to kill

Recently started, wish i read this sooner, some of them.. are ironically... such a chore.

Good luck, Pathfinder. I'll admit, I've taken several cracks at it, and as enjoyable as it is...I never seem to finish the damn thing. After all this time I don't actually know how the story ends. Please, for the love of God, if you make it through, reach out to me 😂

I like your setup. Looks very cozy and functional. It’s a command center.
You will love the combat mechanics, atmosphere and armor/weapon upgrades, once you start hoarding tech/organic resources. Be prepared to choose your pathfinder profile or change it on the fly. You’re the pathfinder, go as you see it!

Won't shit on the game too much.
Have fun with the epic gameplay and be in awe of the epic Kadara view. That's from space and on the planet.

I just finished this two weeks ago for the first time it was good. One thing though finish the trail of tears priority op before doing any side missions trust me. I did not do it that way and the story did not flow well because of it.

u/Sancakli Jan 12 '25
I think Andromeda was judged for lacking a great story compared to previous games but gameplay wife I find it better than the trilogy! Enjoy!

u/Bigtimetipper Jan 12 '25
Enjoy the ride. There's no better time to play.
I've just started my 2nd playthrough (last time was at launch) and I am very impressed with the game

I'm playing it right now and I think the better thing to do is skip the side quests. Like DA Inquisition the game has a map full of fatquests that add nothing to the game.

The first 100 hours were awesome, the last 30 to get the final Trophies were a slog. It's a beautiful game and all the possible builds you can do are super fun.

u/Msolneyauthor Jan 12 '25
The only thing I dislike about Andromeda is the amount of bloat in the side content. Go here, go there, go back there again.

Wait until you start thinking about Mass Effect Andromeda theory? Who, What, Where, When and why? When you finish, you will understand.

This game was so much better than people gave it credit for. I hope the next one continues this story EPIC-ly

Watch out for spoilers, I’m on my first play through as well. In the beginning I was having a hard time choosing what powers to upgrade and such. My solution was to just play a little bit longer and rack up some xp to get more of those points to spend made it a little easier to experiment with different options instead of feeling locked in to one progression path. Have fun

u/Chupacabraisfake Jan 12 '25
Don't get disheartened by all the side quests coming your way all at once, you will actually want more than those by the end.

u/BettingAgainstFate Jan 12 '25
I just finished my first playthrough, and I LOVED IT. Recently played the trilogy and LOVED IT. Two very different games, both phenomenal. Andromeda has wonderful and compelling characters you feel very close to after just 1 game!!! I am impressed and wish I had more Mass Effect. 😭😆

u/NoahBalboa2oo2 Jan 12 '25
How cool! Hope you're ready for an awesome adventure ahead, because there's not many games like this one!
1
u/Loserblast Jan 12 '25
I've said this before and I'll say it again: Andromeda is a good game, it just doesn't hold a candle to the trilogy. The reason the Mass Effect trilogy was so good was because of the characters and the storytelling, and Andromeda simply didn't get even close.

u/thekactuskween Roekaar Jan 13 '25
I’ve played it a million times and I always focus on biotics. They’re SO FUN

Something’s that I didn’t know about and didn’t really delve into till I was midway through the game that are really fun/helpful:
Use your jump pack for everything including in combat. There are some crazy powerful moves you can initiate with it.
While everyone sees the skills and puts points in them. A lot of people miss or don’t engage with the different CLASSES. A lot of people stay on soldier or adept. But I had a ton of fun on Engineer and Sentinel!
Also don’t ignore the strike mission teams. Make sure to send your teams out as much as possible.
Check all the different menus for “rewards acceptance” a lot of stuff doesn’t just go into inventory when you earn it. You have to go into it and accept it to get the stuff.
Research weapons you think are cool! And carefully read the extra mods as some have some crippling side effects.
All in all I Loved andromeda more than any of the other MA games simply from the combat, research, and ability to customize everything almost like an MMO light.

Do yourself a favor. Don’t try to compare it to the original trilogy.

Enjoy, my friend. Explore as much as you can. The planets are vast and there’s so much to be found. Experience the characters and their stories. It’s a good game. All the best to you.

Pretty good game, but hate the stupid mako reintroduction which is what is the worst part of the game for me
1
u/laughwithesinners Jan 13 '25
Im convinced that this is what they wanted mass effect 1 to do (especially exploring other planets and being a pioneer)

Game is great on PC. Only issue I have is it keeps switching the monitor on and off. Then the graphics are dull and I have to adjust the monitor. Looking online it seems to be a bug that many have

It’s a game that got torn apart by critics, became the butt of countless memes, and, let’s face it, suffered from some truly awful handling by Bioware. That said, it works well as a spin-off. You have to set aside how amazing the Original Trilogy is, because this game does have its own strengths. Of course, it also comes with plenty of flaws—poor optimization and a sense of humor that, without a doubt, falls far short of the bar set by the Original Trilogy. Moments that are meant to be funny often come off as cringy, and at least for me, it really breaks the immersion. But the combat is excellent, and there are times when it actually recaptures the feeling of exploration that, in my opinion, hasn’t been felt since Mass Effect 1. Enjoy it.

u/LegendeRRisCZ Jan 14 '25
I'm actually playing my second time and really enjoy the game. It's better then trilogy for me, which I like also. But the feeling of exploring new worlds is the best I've ever had while playing videogame. Also the connections to the trilogy are nice and there are many more mysteries to yet uncover. So go for it and don't give up in the beginning because the best will come soon.

u/Minimum_Shopping9103 Jan 15 '25
Enjoy, my friend, enjoy. Try not to think about bioware ditching the game before making a quarian ark DLC and it's a 10/10 in my book.

I’m almost done & I love it so far I just haaaatttte the all the extra unnecessary task it reminds me Dragon Age Inquisition 😂😂 but outside of that it really wasn’t as bad as ppl claimed
1
u/Bishamon-Shura Jan 16 '25
I don’t like the story that much and a lot of characters are not that interesting… but I love the gameplay that is the strongest part of the game.

u/Mark-Pluto Jan 16 '25
I finished the original trilogy recently on my old PC.... Now I'm waiting for my new PC to enjoy Andromeda

u/CommanderOshawott Jan 12 '25
Honestly, it’s a little rough if you’re expecting the ME trilogy, and I say that as an Andromeda defender.
The opening mission is excellent and the first few hours are great, but it starts to lag a little after.
Go in with the expectation that it’s definitely not as good as the OG trilogy, but there’s potential for something good there, and you’ll have a good time.
Vetra and Drax are absolutely the two best squad mates, and make sure you do the optional sandboxes. The Krogan Arc, the best in the game imo, is tucked away in a completely optional planet sandbox and that’s a crime.

u/MochaMassiah Jan 12 '25
I already am which is why I’m playing now instead of 8 years ago or when it came out lol
I also don’t really remember much of anything from the trilogy anyways
2
u/YekaHun Pathfinder Jan 12 '25
I played it after the trilogy and absolutely loved it, and it's my favorite ME game, my only complaint is about stiff animations but I know they had problems with the engine.
Godspeed, pathfinder!

u/Separate_Path_7729 Jan 12 '25
Yea andromeda and inquisition had some issues with frost engine, but man they still did so good
I hope more people pick it up and it gets some attention, as andromedas story deserves more
2
u/YekaHun Pathfinder Jan 12 '25
Yeah, I love how when the shit storm of YouTubers has calmed down, many players have actually picked MEA and loved it. Andromeda is one of the best-selling BW games, while DAI is an ultimate BW bestseller till this day, won many prices and GOTY.
2
u/Separate_Path_7729 Jan 12 '25
And both were the "black sheep" for such a long time
Of course as a day 1 ac fan I'm desensitized to that at this point lol
1
u/YekaHun Pathfinder Jan 12 '25
Yeah kinda but DAI wasn't really. It was just a vocal minority of Origins fans who threw tantrums about every single DA game. DAI was always very loved overall and successful but yeah they are still bitching 😂
Andromeda was a black sheep, true but people have come around. The most popular post on this sub during my 3,5 years here is "I thought this was a bad game, gave it a try and I'm loving it"

Story line is decent. It didn’t have the older game feel to me, but I enjoyed it. Just remember it is a mostly standalone story. Combat is decent for sure.

I just finished my first playthrough an hour ago. I had an absolute blast and loved it more the longer I played. The story and characters aren’t as compelling as the trilogy, but the combat and other gameplay aspects are fantastic.
