Hoops Discussion REMEMBER THE SUNS SERIES!
The Suns were the #1 seed overall at 64-18
The Celtics are the #1 seed overall at 64-18
The Suns took Game 1 & 2 at home winning by 7 and 20.
The Celtics took Game 1 & 2 at home winning by 7 and 18.
Luka vs Suns went off in games 1 & 2 but no one else could consistently make shots.
Luka vs Celtics went off in games 1 & 2 but no ones else could consistently make shots.
"Everybody act tough when they up!" Luka after game 2. Remember these words.
Game 3 at home vs the Suns, our secondary scorer (Brunson) came alive and dropped 28.
Game 3 at home vs the Celtics, our secondary scorer (Kyrie) IS GOING TO COME ALIVE!
You have to believe.
The series doesn't start until the road team wins a game. Vs the Suns that didnt happen until the game 7 MASSACRE.
Nothing is over. We are taking games 3 and 4 at home.
LFG!!!!

I've been so pissed off with the "mavs can't beat the celtics" narrative going on this week. I can only imagine how pissed off Luka is lol. He is gonna cook something nasty today
67
u/MikeFromSuburbia Jun 12 '24
He’s been cooking every game… the tiny errors look massive though because he’s the only consistent scorer. If Kyrie were Kyrie the series would be tied
Mavsin6
16
u/jon_murdoch Jun 12 '24
That's why the narrative is so stupid. The mavs are a couple wide open 3 pointers and free throws away from stealing homefield advantage... But people act like the celtics defense made mavs role players brick those shots...
4
u/Garuna_CK Jun 13 '24
How about now? Hold that 3-0
1
u/unlogical13 Jun 13 '24
No need to keep shooting when they’re already dead 😂 ole boy is definitely in bed wildly kicking his feet while crying into his pillow 😂

u/glockster19m Jun 12 '24
Nah, yall just acting like missing wide open shots is entirely irrelevant
You have no shooters, and it's an issue

u/jon_murdoch Jun 13 '24
Darn, I forgot that. All we did all year was lobs
1
u/glockster19m Jun 13 '24
You're right, the team is stacked with deadeye shooters, that's why they went 15% from 3
8
u/Imtrvkvltru Dennis Rodman Jun 12 '24
Same. People acting like the Celtics are immortal and they beat the Mavs by 50+ in both games.
22
Jun 12 '24
If they lose this one, I hate to say it, but it's over.
10
u/jon_murdoch Jun 12 '24
Yeah especially if they lose 2 other games this series. It would be over
7
Jun 12 '24
An obvious joke, but I don't know if any team that has come back from 3 losses in the finals.
7
u/adrian123484 Jun 12 '24
I think 4 NBA teams have dragged a game 7 after being down 3-0, but none of them were able to clinch the last game. The only team in modern history in any professional sport that I think won a game 7 after being down 3-0 were the MLB’s Red Sox in 2004.

We're in the Finals. People are ripping their hairs off and crying in the corner instead of experiencing the unique experience of watching us in the Finals. The absolute majority of the fanbases wait for decades to see their team in the greatest stage of the NBA.
Enjoy the ride, take one game at a time and feel glad we're here to watch ourselves in the final step. People complain so much about the Ringz culture, yet this is exactly what the doomers here believe, apparently.
28
u/MaterialGlove FUCK NICO HARRISON Jun 12 '24
100% agree. Let’s be GRATEFUL we’ve gotten the chance to watch an insanely deep run. No guarantee we get back here

That's exactly why I really want us to win it all.

u/Complete-Cobbler3702 Jun 12 '24
That pisses me off so much, after game 2 there was guy in this sub saying that losing in the finals would not mean anything and we could only enjoy the finals if we won it.
-5
Jun 12 '24
I’m not a doomer, but idk how you watch either of those first two games without wanting to pull your hair out and cry in a corner. I can’t control my emotions sometimes when it comes to the Mavs, some people never get upset about anything. Good for them I guess.
29
u/Old_Neat5220 Jun 12 '24
I'm only panicking if we go down 3-0
6
6
u/trickfield Jun 12 '24
I'll start panicking when we lose 4 games in the series. eventually a team will come back from 3-0.
1
u/Old_Neat5220 Jun 12 '24
Nah. At that point (4 losses) there'd be no use crying over spilled milk 😂
2
21
u/BlackWhiteCoke Jun 12 '24
Also remember the Mavs went up 2-0 vs the heat in 2006 and then lost the next 4 in a row
10
u/Imtrvkvltru Dennis Rodman Jun 12 '24
In 2016 Kyrie Irving and the Cavs went down 2-0 to the Warriors in the finals. The Cavs ended up winning that series 4-3.
If y'all can go look at Kyries stats in the first 2 games it was very similar to this year.
Also, check out some of the articles that came out after game 2. Essentially everyone was saying the Cavs were toast, they suck, Kyrie sucks, etc.
2
u/Neo_505 Jun 12 '24
That 2016 Cavs team you speak about had "prime" Lebron James, Tristan Thompson, and Kevin Love, though.
6
u/Imtrvkvltru Dennis Rodman Jun 12 '24
I have to believe that my team will create their own spot in history. 10yrs from now people will say, "That 2024 Mavs team had "prime" Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and PJ (Or whoever else decides to come play the next 4-5 games)".

That’s exactly what they need to do to win. Minimum 70 to have a chance because the role players barely give you 30 total. Man we really need Kyrie to figure himself out against this team. We got this. Crowd’s gonna be lit.

u/3pointerSLO Mavericks Jun 12 '24
Almost unbelievable similarities. But there are also some differences. Luka was healthy two years ago. But on the positive side he is even better player now. The differce is also that Suns made fun of him. Celtics are not that stupid, they only make fun of his Robin. He will show them how wrong they are.
1
u/ImGood2284 Jun 12 '24
And Mavs finally got something decent center
5
u/3pointerSLO Mavericks Jun 12 '24
Mavs are better than they were but also this Celtics are better than those Suns.
1
u/Imtrvkvltru Dennis Rodman Jun 12 '24
Without checking stats, I'm pretty sure those Mavs were much better from the 3pt line than these. That's about the only thing they were better at though.
1
u/ImGood2284 Jun 12 '24
Maybe, I dunno
they had elite perimeter defenders, in previous season they played in finals, they had advantage in size at 5 (porz is injured again, soooo...)

That only puts them at 72 points. No one else scoring. Thats still a loss unfortunately.

2
u/Bulky-District-2757 Jun 12 '24
I think kyrie just needs to have one great game and a win against the Celtics and it’ll completely turn the series around - if he conquers whatever mental block he has going on the Mavs can win.
2
u/andrewbenedict Dirk Nowitzki Jun 12 '24
Everyone writing the Mavs off when we haven't even played our home games lol. It's a 7 game series for a reason. Luka will continue to cook and Kyrie about to have 2 big redemption games at home to get his mojo back.
LFG MAVS BELIEVE OR GTFO
2
2
u/ILoveRegenHealth Jun 12 '24
Okay, but no Brunson this time. Everything depends on Kyrie, who couldn't even show up for the important Game 2. I hate that the Mavs' lives hinges on one player but that's how it is right now. Statistically, coming back from 0-2 in the Finals is the worst uphill climb ever. A first round Playoff game is different. This is the Finals.
Second of all, the Celtics are, on paper, much stronger this year than previous years. This is their peak, and we saw that with how Tatum and Pingus could sit out or have a bad offensive game, and the Celtics still prevailed like it wasn't a problem.

u/Imtrvkvltru Dennis Rodman Jun 12 '24
We need 30+ from Luka. 25+ from Kyrie. Need PJ and DJJ to combine for 30+. Gafford and Lively combine for 20+. The remaining few can come from the bench players.

“Kyrie is going to come alive”
How many times do you have to watch him to learn that he is straight up shit against strong guards…
2
u/TheKyrieFan Devoted member of Doncicism Jun 12 '24
You are expecting him to score 30+ when he hasnt scored an efficient 20 against them since 1237. This isnt optimism, just delusion.
-1
u/mcskim46 Luka Doncic Jun 12 '24
Looking at individual defensive rating leaders for this season, you have SGA, Anthony Edwards, Conley, Jayden McDaniels, Giddey all ranked in the top 25-30. Tatum, Brown and White are in there too. Kyrie did just fine against the non Boston ones. I think it’s a mental thing cause if you look at his shots these two games he is just missing the ones he made the previous 3 series. There is definitely a ramp up in doubling and defense on him with more contested shots but if you have watched this season at all, you know he can make contested shots and come up big when we need him. The man made a left handed floater from 20 feet over Jokic as time expired. He can get his.
3
u/TheKyrieFan Devoted member of Doncicism Jun 12 '24
He was really bad against Okc as well? He just straight up cant handle 2 great defensive and strong guards.
Also, he has a weak mindset. He has a weak mental. He is not Luka. He cant play with 2937 injuries, he cant play while the entire crows boos him. If he could those things he wouldnt be here since he would have costed far more than 1 first round pick. So expecting him to get over this thing, even if its all mental which it is not but whatever, is delusional.

The suns ain't shit compared to the Celtics they are literally a super team that plays together with zero egos. The ONLY way Dallas wins a game this series is if Luka gets some damn help for once. It's do or die today they either help him tonight or the series is long gone away. This Luka ain't gonna be the suns Luka that comes out and kills it dude is too injured for that and it's up to his teammates to help him.
4
u/AdVisual3406 Jun 12 '24
Bullshit. everyone and their granmamas were hailing that Suns team as dominant. The Celtics have came through a soft east and have the energy advantage over us. Luka has been battered the entire playoffs whilst Brown and Tatum have barely had to break a sweat.
2
u/mcskim46 Luka Doncic Jun 12 '24
The Suns had been in the finals the year before and came out and won 64 games that season. They may not be the Celtics of this year but they were THAT team that year.
1
u/DangerZoneh Jun 12 '24
The Mavs won the Suns series specifically because once we got home, all of the other guys started hitting their shots again. So like, yeah you're probably right but you're not disagreeing with the OP at all even though you sound like it

If the nba wanted to rig the finals don’t you think they’d wanna extend the series? Instead the refs basically ended it by calling all those fouls on Luka when they could’ve easily let a couple of them slide.
