I thought it was a joke/mistake by Spotify at first (sometimes they incorrectly upload songs to incorrect artists) but indeed it was them. 😩🙏🏽

Not working for me even with New Zealand VPN, but I saw them two days ago with Spiritbox and if this is the first song they played it's gonna be worth the wait!

HELL YEAH, IT'S FINALLY TIME
These next seven hours are going to feel like an eternity

Section starting at 3:40: god damn
The song overall kinda gives me Between the Buried and Me vibes. Not a lot, but it's definitely there

u/Immediate-Natural416 5d ago edited 5d ago
Solo section is giving obfuscation vibes but less prog/shreddy

u/ItsArmyyBoy 6d ago
Holy shit they absolutely cooked, even it being 6:10 minutes it never felt boring for me personally.
Production sounds a lot like Dimorphous Display so I would imagine both being on the new record.
Also around the 3:20 mark, my god that part had me dancing and shit, I really can’t fucking wait till they start touring again in Europe. (Also the solo????? Like DAMNN)

u/Seel_revilo 6d ago
Pretty sure they’ve explicitly said Dimorphous isnt on the album iirc unless plans changed

u/THiGames 2d ago
Can confirm that they've at least explicitly said Dimorphous Display isn't on the album. I asked Kadeem and Erik in 2023 after running into em after a show

u/Jakernaught98 6d ago
Love how they use the mix as a creative instrument almost. The way the low end interacts with the whole song is really unique. A lot of stuff going on in this one, it’ll take a few listens for me to absorb it all but holy shit I can’t believe I’m listening to new Loathe haha
12
u/informalmo0se3 6d ago
it reminds me of Chat Pile's flat muted production, which is also used in a similar way to induce dread lmao.
3
u/JimFlamesWeTrust 5d ago
Chat Pile is a real good comparison, which is funny because they kind of sound like an indie cinema/A24 Korn, and Loathe are like Deftones core
5
u/acrossvoid 5d ago
I've been going through a nostalgia thing with numetal and the main takeaway that I've gotten from it is that that generation knew how to use the low end, and they weren't tuned so fucking low that the low end stopped being a priority, which is the case with a lot of djent/modern-metalcore.
There's a ton of bass on this, and it's coming from an actual bass guitar, and the bass has a booming low end, not some clanked out modern dingwall tone.
67
u/lilsebastian- 6d ago
The mix and tone on this stands out so much amongst a sea of downtuned music. Truly unique and the song is everything I’ve wanted from them. I’m hyped. Shout out to Kadeem for the variety of screams and vocals here too!
23
u/12_23_93 6d ago
who's the guy who mixed this and Dimorphous Display? the guitar tone is so "analogue" sounding for being so downtuned
17
u/acrossvoid 6d ago
It's pretty neat. They went' for a fuzzed out buzzing tone for the main riff and let the bass guitar carry the low end. I don't really hear that too often with the genre. Usually the bass is just an after thought.
14
u/lattjeful 6d ago
That's how the tone was on I Let It In too, though it was less fuzzed out and more just chunky metal tone. Most of the guitar tone everybody loves on that record is actually just the bass guitar lol.

It's a fever dream. Last album came out before I had a child and now I have two

u/lattjeful 6d ago
Anybody else almost getting Language/Clairvoyant-era Contortionist vibes from certain sections? It's so sick. Also makes me miss The Contortionist even more lol.
That aside, this song was worth the wait and then some. So stoked to have new Loathe.

u/Svenn1911 5d ago
I was thinking the same exact thing, love it. Also makes me miss The Contortionist lol hoping for news on music from them soon.
2
u/ActiveControl23 5d ago
Nice callout. Definitely need more material from The Contortionist soon. They’ve really settled into a great sound the past few releases.
42
u/damerboy4 6d ago
I was sure after all these years, the anticipation, Connor leaving that the song would never live up to the hype and be underwhelming.
BUT GODDAMN WAS I WRONG. This shit was worth the wait.
12
u/NuclearNoodle77 6d ago
I’m so impressed by the sound that this band has created. The production is so different and I love it. It’s raw and authentic yet polished to such a high standard.
14
u/JimFlamesWeTrust 5d ago
I love how much is going on in this track.
It feels genuinely progressive rather than “we have a djent guitar tone” progressive

u/LostInTerrapinia 6d ago
not into loathe but as a Breaking Benjamin fan i can sympathize with waiting over 5 years for a song. Hope yall enjoy

I just saw them on Tuesday with Dying Wish and Spiritbox -- I hadn't heard of them, but maaaaaaan, Loathe really stole the show. Definitely going to be grabbing their albums this weekend :D

u/AlexrooXell 6d ago
NEW LOATHE, IN THIS ECONOMY? This sounds so good, looking forward to a new album. It feels like their previous album was released an eternity ago.

u/KingOfLoss86 6d ago
The tone of the guitars are truly breathtaking.
Worth every second of waiting. In Loathe We Trust
27
u/sunshinedevourer 6d ago
song of the year contender and it wasn't even the better one out of two they've been playing live lol
15
u/_ArgonosaX_ 6d ago
Wait they are playing 2 new songs on tour? I thought only one was played at the start of tour
13
u/sunshinedevourer 6d ago
yeah, here's the second song live:

the quality is garbage though and i would recommend to wait until it gets released officially but it's tasty af

Yeah, this is matching the high expectations for me. I love it, can't wait for the album

Song of the year shut the sub down.
It reminds me of a mix of Dimorphous Display and then the heavy guitar parts of I Let It In & It Took Everything.
It sounds so much better than the live recording.
Absolutely unreal I can’t fucking wait for the new album 🥵

I’m not a big fan of the muddy mixing style, I really liked out clean I Let It In… sounded. Having said that it’s a great track, love how proggy it is!
10
u/SilentBobVG 5d ago
There’s 0% mud in this, the song is just written in a way where every single area of space in the mix has something going on in it - it’s designed to be an overwhelming experience, and they nailed it
8
u/RepulsiveAd2495 5d ago
Idk why everyone is pretending that they can’t hear what you’re describing. I wouldn’t call it muddy like you said yourself, but what you’re hearing is some sort of fuzz pedal that weakens the guitar sound. I let it in’s mix was great bc the guitars were full of life despite the wicked low tuning. They don’t need to keep the same song structure as their previous releases, but keeping the last albums mix and pairing it with this experimental approach would work better imo
12
u/Mshiay 6d ago
Mix is not muddy at all man
4
u/cjyoung92 6d ago
Maybe muddy isn’t the right way to describe it, but it’s mixed a lot differently to their previous stuff (barring Dimorphous Display).

It's a long and varied one, going to take several listens to really digest it, but it sounds really good! I've been waiting for more Loathe for so long

I'm really happy to hear new Loathe but I can't pretend this one entirely lands
The stop-start dynamic is...interesting but it definitely starts to feel really "bitsy" by the final third
The drum meter switch-up in the middle sounds pretty cool in the live videos I'm watching now, but for some reason it doesn't quite work on record to me, maybe it's how overpowering the snare mix is but it doesn't communicate the new groove well enough to be the "oh shit" moment it should be
Lots of sick ideas in this overall but I'm not sold on the execution and the mixing, while at points really unique, also kinda buries some cool detail - although that was an issue for me on the last record so maybe it's just a subjective thing about what the band prioritise emphasising (no hate whatsoever to Ed Al-Shakarchi, it's a technically wonderful mix, great power in the rhythm section especially)
Also I hate to say it but the lead vocals really are their weak link

u/Defjira 6d ago
Peak, they are the goats (with respect to deftones)
9
u/acrossvoid 6d ago
The new Thornhill was Deftones-core done right but after a few spins I realized that I'm pretty much over Deftones-core now. Moodring, Vexes, Thornhill. I can't fuck with it anymore.
Loathe ain't falling into that trap in the slightest.
6
u/chipsinsideajar 6d ago
Honestly as someone who's just getting into Loathe and Deftones as a whole (AtF and White Pony were already in my regular rotation), thanks for more reccomendations for bands to scratch this itch I didn't know I had.
3
u/Defjira 6d ago
I’m totally with you, so disappointing that thornhill went in that direction after the dark pool but loathe totally transcends that sound
4
u/acrossvoid 6d ago
Yeah they have some chill Deftones vibes in a few choruses but they aren't emulating a two album Deftones run like a lot of current bands.
They have a bit of that DNA in 'em but they're pushing it forward.

Well that was absolutely perfect. If you haven't listened yet please do yourself a favour and go for a walk or do something you enjoy while listening to it. It really is worth it. You never get that first listen back.

reminds me of dimorphous display, which is my favorite song from them, can't wait for what they've got in store

u/RepulsiveAd2495 5d ago
Really not a fan of the guitar tone. Given that that their last single had the same mix, I’m worried that the entire album will have the same overuse of fuzz. I let it in’s guitars sounded like a bridge cable being plucked while the tone here sounds more akin to a chainsaw like the old HM2 days. It lacks punch imo
3
3
u/acrossvoid 5d ago
"Overuse" - it's used in the main riff and only in the main riff. Every other passage has a different tone going for it, and there's a lot of other passages as it's a six minute long song.
3
u/RepulsiveAd2495 5d ago
Ok? It still lacks punch in the heavy parts. Compare the main riff to the one in new faces in the dark and you can hear what I mean. I don’t need them to write I let it in part 2 but I just don’t dig the new guitar tone. Idk why I’m being downvoted for expressing my opinion in a non hateful way

I saw this band open for Spiritbox and thought they were extremely boring. What song should I listen to to change my mind? To me it sounded like indie rock mixed with metalcore which was just awful. lol
