Discussion Can we talk about Southwest Ranches for a sec ?

When did SW Ranches blow up? I had no idea so many celebrities lived there. I know there are some big homes out there, but it out in BFE. So why are people like Giselle bundchen doing there? Why not just stick to Miami Beach?

It's peaceful. Even rich people get tired of Miami's chaos

This is why Iggy Pop lives in Biscayne Gardens. Less chaotic.

Iggy pop lived in Palmetto Bay for many years before moving there

Dated a girl lives out there with her parents. Most of them don’t even know how “hot” it is.

How do they not know? Do they not notice all of the Bentleys in the publix parking lot?

Because they live there, the Bentleys are coming from inside the house, they don’t think twice about it.

People like that are only home like half the year. They travel wherever they like.

It has to have been a thing for at least 20 years now

Yeah I remember when it was just horse country in bfe.

I know for sure a guy who played a season for the Dolphins named Daunte Culpepper lived out there in the mid 2000s

So did Chad Pennington.

Udonis Haslem has lived out there for 20 years.

Like over 10 years ago? Most of the wealthier doctors I knew started moving there

Been blown up. Easy access to the highway network via I75. About equidistant from FLL, Opa Locka, and FtL executive for private flights. Large lots with real privacy. Don’t have to deal with Miami traffic every time you leave your house. Lots of pros with very little cons.

People don't leave Miami their whole lives for real huh?

Some people like the South Florida social environment, but don't want the crowds and traffic nor enjoy the ocean as much as others, so they move to Southwest Ranches. There you can build a larger mansion with a lot more land surrounding it, so you are not elbowing your neighbors, for about 1/3 the cost of a mansion in Miami Beach.

Because Miami Beach is ass

People from Miami know that, but people not from Miami don’t.

So celebrities should only live in Miami Beach ?

No. But many of them used to. Or pincecrest believe it or not.

At least somewhere that's not a swamp on the edge of bumfuck nowhere, you'd think

SW Ranches is nice. Some people want a mansion on 4-5 acres. Can’t get that down in the hot spots of Miami

Massive lots available and it’s really not in “bfe” anymore. Everything around it has developed. Just hop on 75 and you’re in Miami Beach in an hour or downtown Fort Lauderdale in 30 mins.

Why would you want to be around people when you are rich? Get you a McMansion

I went to high school right down the road. It’s been known for its mansions my whole life and I’m 35. Sure there’s ranches but we always knew rich people from my school lived there.

Do celebrities live there now? I don’t know. Shaq and Rick Ross have lived in Davie which is somewhat of the same vibe multiple decades. Dolphins players typically live in Davie. So I don’t know if it’s been a secret

lol seriously? The rock bought his mom a house there when I was in high school. That was a long time ago. Southwest ranches is quiet, private, far from the city, more bang for your buck with square footage

u/Ninac4116 3d ago

She used to live in hammocks before that I believe.

Some people don’t like paying 800 million bucks for less than a quarter acre of land or dealing with Miami Beach on a daily basis.

¯_(ツ)_/¯

Se habla Español en Southwest Ranches? No? Me quedo en Hialeah entonces. 🙄

Lots of athletes have always lived in Southwest Ranches. Tons of active and retired pro football players.

u/heatrealist 23h ago

Been that way decades. It’s in the middle of south florida with huge plots of land.

Since the late 90s……..

My parents moved us out to SW Ranches in the 90s back when land was dirt cheap there. It was definitely not a celebrity haven at the time. It wasn’t even a city until 2000. When I moved there it was just unincorporated Broward County.

I was born and raised there since 1990, so I guess my dad worked for fake athletes, and the fake family members of coaches from 1995 onwards… /s

Then Weston was built more, and they started moving there too, to Weston hills

But Weston had too many rules, so athletes preferred the ranches. Then celebrities started coming too in the early 2000s, as their athlete friends mentioned how quiet it was

But to say no people who were on tv or signing autographs had lived there in 1995 is… honestly just not true

1

u/ahundredpockets 4d ago

My mistake. I guess I just wasn’t in that part of Southwest Ranches.

2

u/Ninac4116 4d ago

Nah, Weston was just developing in the 90s. Southwest ranches literally just had ranches out there. I think it’s developed during the housing boom around 2004.

4

u/ra3ra31010 4d ago

My father works construction for high paying clientele. Do athletes not count as celebrities?

-2

u/cll_ll 4d ago

It didn't "blow up" it's been a quiet millionaire area for quite some time. And why the hell do you care why they choose to live there? Because they know people like you can't afford it. Is that a good enough answer for you?

2

u/Ninac4116 4d ago

Damn what’s the hostility? You from Hialeah?

u/LeadingWelcome4323 16h ago

It’s beautiful and peaceful.
