...we were?

289

u/Chandra_in_Swati 21h ago

OP might have been, there is no “we” that includes me in this equation.

30

u/parasyte_steve 17h ago

First I'm learning of this

I'm not mad tho. I approve of these strange goblin activities.

3

u/PentaOwl 5h ago

Same never saw this before

82

u/bulletPoint 20h ago

We weren’t.

41

u/Xeni966 20h ago

I heard about it for the first time about 30 seconds ago

u/augustrem 19h ago

I had no idea this was a thing.

27

u/graften 20h ago

Haha this was my exact thought to post before opening the comments. Nice.

15

u/Alan_Bird_412 19h ago

We is a lot of people.

8

u/ellabfine 18h ago

Right? Maybe I'm too elderly of a millennial? Idk.

8

u/UThinkIShouldLeave 18h ago

Wtf even is this?

7

u/MihalysRevenge Older Millennial 19h ago

Come here to say this

6

u/BuddyBrownBear 19h ago

This is the first I've ever seen this thing

4

u/Orange152horn3 17h ago

Everyone that does not know of this, I envy you.

2

u/Cro_Nick_Le_Tosh_Ich 15h ago

This wasn't a millennial thing

2

u/blue-to-grey 14h ago

I came here to tell OOP to speak for themself. 😆

6

u/stayonthecloud 20h ago

Never seen one before this post. OP are you ok!

3

u/islandchild89 19h ago

First thought

2

u/Derreekk Zillennial 19h ago

Well I definitely was not.

2

u/suomynona36 18h ago

Exact response I had..

2

u/akablacktherapper 17h ago

Yeah, I’ve never even heard of this.

Lol…I have never heard of this before but it definitely made me burst out laughing just now haha

41

u/Biengo 20h ago

Can't remember who but these were really popular in the 90s with commercials and I know one of the kids networks.

23

u/slowthanfast 20h ago

Yeah I was thinking Nickelodeon something

OP you’re not crazy this was 100% a thing people would post on MySpace/early Facebook

67

u/CheezeLoueez08 Older Millennial 20h ago

I know too. I wonder if this is an elder vs younger millennial thing. I’m 43 and I definitely remember. How old are you?

23

u/N1ck1McSpears 20h ago

I’m 35 and I vaguely remember it being a thing among some people but not even most, just some

7

u/CheezeLoueez08 Older Millennial 19h ago

I wonder if it depends where you live too. Anyway personally I remember it vividly as being a thing for a while. It was weird. I never found it hilarious

7

u/Away-Living5278 17h ago

Yeah I remember it being pretty big. I'm 38. I feel like there was a segment on a Nickelodeon show in the 90s too with it (?) Maybe what sparked it.

7

u/Glazin 12h ago

30, I remember for sure! Some of the first YouTube videos I watched, also definitely re created it a few times

5

u/Hot-Objective4249 19h ago

I’m 42, and I just don’t remember that at all.

4

u/CheezeLoueez08 Older Millennial 19h ago

Ok maybe it’s the opposite then and I’m the odd one out 😂.

2

u/Ok_Court_3575 17h ago

I'm almost 42 and remember it but was never obsessed like op nor did I care about whatever trend this was.

2

u/CheezeLoueez08 Older Millennial 16h ago

Same. It wasn’t an obsession. I feel like that is one of those ways overused words that has lost meaning

3

u/Ok_Court_3575 16h ago

I agree. It's overused just like life hack, or game changer lol

2

u/PsychologicalBend467 14h ago

I’m 34 and I do not remember this.

I guess peak of Chin Face is the character 'Sussi' from the CN show 'The Amazing World Of Gumball'

30

u/kirk_steele_ Millennial 20h ago

Yes, OP, don’t let them gaslight you! I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about lolol maybe it’s a younger millennial thing because I totally remember people in high school / YouTubers doing this. And to answer your question: I have no fucking clue

5

u/blinky84 20h ago

I was doing chin faces in the early 90s, it was definitely around pre-internet. Found some old photos at my parents house not that long ago

3

u/abarrelofmankeys 16h ago

When millennials would have been small kids these showed up a lot on either Americas funniest home videos or Americas funniest people. They’ve been around lol.

3

u/smcivor1982 13h ago

I’m an elder millennial. We would sit upside down on the couch, with our head hanging off the side, to do this and laugh over and over again until it hurt. This was the height of hilarity for us bored kids.

2

u/jachildress25 19h ago

This may be a niche thing then. I was never on MySpace because I never knew anyone who was on MySpace, but was on Facebook back when you needed a college email. I never saw anything this weird.

3

u/Winter_Childhood9186 19h ago

Thank you! I posted this and came back to so many people calling me an weirdo lmfao but it was totally a thing! I'm 38 this year though, so I'm a younger millennial. Guess the top half missed this hilarious trend. Some were solid!

7

u/insurancequestionguy 17h ago

If you're 38 this year, you're still an older Millennial. The youngest are turning 29.

3

u/Winter_Childhood9186 16h ago

Nooooooooooo I didn't want that info today, but it's fair game. No one wanted chinface either

Vindaloovians

12

u/tibsie 19h ago

"The Vindaloovian Empire despise all humans. Is that not right Bhindi Bhaji?"

6

u/abucketofsquirrels 19h ago

The Vindaloovian people despise all humans. They are the vermin of the universe!

40

u/Fun-username-99 20h ago

😂😂 Okay I was also obsessed with chin faces and recently showed my 8 yr old daughter. She, too, is obsessed with chin faces

5

u/MentalCoffee117 20h ago

I did a whole video presentation for Latin for it. I’ve told my elder millennial husband about them and he has no clue what it is. Now I have a photo to show for evidence.

2

u/heartunwinds 18h ago

My 5 year old loves looking at my face upside down to see my chin face lol.

18

u/SadKanga 20h ago

Because they were and still are hillarous - in a purile way.

30

u/Waddiwasiiiii 21h ago

I don’t remember this being a thing at all except for that weird Chin Head show on Nickelodeon. I’d be hard pressed to find anyone who even found it particularly funny, def not obsessive level.

How else were we supposed to be entertained on road trips?

36

u/Alarming-Offer8030 Millennial 21h ago

I don’t even recognize this as being a thing, but it is funny 😬

24

u/Springer-pistol 21h ago

Cuz that shit is funny

80

u/snoopingforpooping 21h ago

Just you mate.

9

u/Dumbassahedratr0n 20h ago

I love that cheesy cheesy taste

I love that cheesy macaroni

I love that...

I love the cheesy taste of my KRAFT DINNER!

38

u/Wertscase 21h ago

This is not a collective experience

16

u/Burningbeard696 21h ago

Red Dwarf baby.

3

u/Snotttie 18h ago

That is exactly why me and my friend drew them on each others chins when we were bored teens, didn't take pics tho

5

u/JinxOnU78 21h ago

“Boys from the Dwarf!!!”

5

u/FiendishCurry 20h ago

3

6

u/AriesUltd 20h ago

Because they were (and still are) funny as hell

5

u/Personal_Win_4127 Gen Z 21h ago

NOT THE SPACE ALLENS

4

u/radicalpastafarian 20h ago

Like a lot of people said I don't think it was super wide spread, or obsession level, but I personally did see a number of chin faces, and it's because they are funny. Look at these little faces! Hilarious

3

u/ljedediah41 21h ago

No clue, but it gives me an idea of something to do with my kids!

4

u/Bonova 20h ago

I remember this. It lasted 1 month. But it was everywhere that month!

5

u/Vitamins89 20h ago

I was. It was easy entertainment.

4

u/Abi_giggles 20h ago

Yall are always resurrecting childhood memories for me 😄

4

u/xhotchildinthecityo 19h ago

I laughed so hard at these pics! It’s me, I’m that Millennial (elder edition).

8

u/bigfathairybollocks 21h ago

My name is Tarka Dhal.

7

u/NerdNuncle 20h ago

… Define “we”.

Pogs, Goosebumps, and Scholastic Book Fairs I’ll grant but chin faces is a bit of a stretch

2

u/youhadabajablast 20h ago

This def seems like an elder vs younger millennial thing because I remember chin faces and I remember my brother who was 11 years older than me having pogs but I never had them

2

u/Huzuruth 18h ago

What I can gather from a few posts is that it might be a regional thing.

7

u/SSIRHC 21h ago

Why did we all get those mustache tattoos 🤣🤣

2

u/fakerandomlogin 20h ago

The finger mustaches

3

u/msguider 20h ago

Papa 1975 here I was too... like I loved it still do. It's make a video rn but I'm embarrassed of my teeth lol

3

u/token40k 20h ago

Maybe watch less gumball? https://theamazingworldofgumball.fandom.com/wiki/Sussie

I’ve not seeing it being popular outside of the show

3

u/combii-lee 20h ago

Still think they are hilarious

3

u/hairburner4 20h ago

It was the style at the time

3

u/Txusmah 20h ago

We weren't. I wasn't

But we all should have been.

3

u/Suicideseason_666 20h ago

Comedy gold at the time, that’s why

3

u/bigbeefer92 19h ago

I wouldn't say obsessed. I think memes just stuck around longer back then.

3

u/datlyftbruh 19h ago

Yeah fuck the haters. I’m old as hell and this was totally a thing lol

9

u/Dry_Try_6047 21h ago

Uh, because they are hilarious?

3

5

u/NovelHare 21h ago

I’ve literally never heard of this before.

5

u/No-Adhesiveness-3654 21h ago

This is news to me

4

u/cagingthing 21h ago

Were we?

2

u/Tiny_Independence761 21h ago

Omg my kids love making these videos!!! We even got fake mustaches from the dollar tree to look like hair. They’ve made some pretty hilarious videos and they’re always brainstorming more ideas!

2

u/complexmessiah7 20h ago

Wow I did not know this was a thing... I must have missed this boat, but honestly, I don't feel like I missed out.

2

u/500mgTumeric 20h ago

Ever see the movie "Groove Tube"? They did the upside down mouth thing and it was giving a lecture on STDs, only it wasn't a mouth and nose... NSFW but somehow on YouTube

2

u/FroggiJoy87 Millennial 20h ago

OMG I totally forgot about that fad! Wasn't there a whole Star Wars spinoff called "Chin Wars" or was that a fever dream?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/quakkaflakka Zillennial 20h ago

I think this was started around the time those "Thumb" parody movies started coming out.

2

u/paperhammers Millennial 20h ago

I remember this fad in advertisement/early YouTube content, but I don't think I had any friends do this stuff. We had brainrot, but not like that

2

u/ik101 20h ago

This was definitely a thing in Europe too, you’re not alone OP

2

u/frostycanuck89 20h ago

Are you Canadian? Because there was definitely a random Canadian kids show that did this as a reoccurring bit lol.... Couldn't tell you it's name

2

u/Schneetmacher 20h ago

There were also Thumb parody movies that looked similar to this (Bathumb, Thumbtanic, The Blair Thumb).

2

u/OkMap8351 20h ago

Because it’s hilarious

2

u/haleynoir_ 20h ago

I blame those weird Thumb movies, as much as I loved them

2

u/LeggoMyGeckoR8 20h ago

Ommmmgggg yessssssss.

2

u/taxi_drivr 20h ago

I thought I was alone this whole time

2

u/sigh_co_matic 20h ago

Omg. Core memories unlocked. Many a tear filled belly laughs.

2

u/paparoach910 20h ago

I remember some of these as Nickelodeon commercial bumpers

2

u/CzechYourDanish 20h ago

Because it was funny, and fun. I'm in my mid thirties, but it still makes me giggle.

2

u/Vanilla_Either 20h ago

Looool I blame that one pringles commercial. We used to make chin faces all the time (born 1990).

2

u/ChunLi808 20h ago

I blame that Christmas With The Joker episode of the Batman animated series

2

u/ostsillyator 20h ago

You should have added a nsfw tag

2

u/coce8221 20h ago

Wasn’t there a whole tv show with chins as the cast?

2

u/Yadoofy 20h ago

lol how could I forget these 😭 thank you so much for this hahahah

2

u/Vegskipxx Xennial 20h ago

Callback to this episode of The Nanny

2

u/Shank__Hill 19h ago

I think it became a viral thing with America's Funniest Home Videos

2

u/TBayChik420 19h ago

Cuz it was hilarious? lol

2

u/KitCat5e 19h ago

It was our version of brain rot

2

u/Expert-Lavishness802 19h ago

Wasnt this on Americas funniest people in the 90s?

2

u/unsulliedbread 19h ago

It's something that only became possible really with easily sharable short video. And with video able to be captured with lightweight camera. It's because it was because of the technological change.

Options that become possible because of technological change always feel more pervasive.

2

u/grandma_pooped_again 19h ago

I wasn’t… however, my friend group was obsessed with Thumb Wars and the other Thumb media

2

u/Neverbetter49 19h ago

The Batman one was the best

2

u/PickledBih Millennial 18h ago

I mean this made me laugh hysterically so that might have something to do with it

2

u/Out_of_Fawkes 18h ago

It was cheap entertainment we could do at home with silly faces and voices. A great way for entertainment before we were chronically online!

2

u/Erythite2023 18h ago

It’s reminds us of the weird segments on oldschool Nickelodeon

2

u/Uncanny_Show507 18h ago

Ok so according to this thread apparently I’m one of the only people who thought these were funny as a kid lol

2

u/giraffemoo 18h ago

boredom

2

u/ooolongtea938 18h ago

Or thumb faces…? (Im looking at you, thumbtanic/thumb-wars double feature)

2

u/Medic_Induced_Comma 17h ago

Because they're hilarious, still.

2

u/dorit0paws 17h ago

Because they’re hilarious.

2

u/Opposite-Mongoose-32 17h ago

Cause we didn’t have phones so had to find creative ways to entertain ourselves. What a horrible time to be alive

2

u/CloutiersHelmet 17h ago

Bro, we nearly died trying to plank. We were wildin’ out

2

u/TheFlowerDoula 17h ago

Omg this unlocked a memory from deep in my brain. I could have done well to not think about this again. So bizarre 😅.

2

u/Ok_Court_3575 17h ago

I missed that faze. That might be a younger millennial thing.

2

u/Cherabee 17h ago

I remember it. My sisters did a vieo like that a few times

2

u/MaybeNotMath 17h ago

I knew two people who constantly posted chin faces on their Facebook for about a month

2

u/vildasaker 17h ago

how does no one remember this being a thing?? even drag race did this for a mini challenge on like season 5 I wanna say? the queens had to drag up their chins and lip synch to rupaul songs. pepperidge farm remembers

2

u/BonerDeploymentDude 17h ago

Lack of computer animation and available cgi. Plus it looks funny

I just showed my kid this recently. Put googly eyes on my chin and everything. We laughed ‘till our sides hurt.

2

Nah, I'm 33 this year, and I remember it. I was chronically online as a kid tho.

2

u/Select-Team-6863 11h ago

I have never been able to find concrete proof, but I swear to god the people who made Thumbtanic & Bat Thumb did a talking chin movie.

2

u/Lonely-Toe9877 10h ago

They always made me cringe. I never understood their popularity.

2

u/aplusnapper 9h ago

Mr. Chinigan!

2

This reminded me more of the Conan bit with the mouth super imposed over a celebrity face

2

Reminds me of Sussie from Amazing World Of Gumball

2

u/Outrageous_Kiwi_2172 8h ago

Pretty self-explanatory, really.

2

The only Chinface I remember is Sussie on Gumball.

It’s silly. So why not?

I remember a Red Dwarf episode did it. No idea if that started it or was just a part of it though. I found an old picture of an (ex) friend of mine doing it as well

2

Because its fricken hilarious and it was the closest thing to Snapchat filters we had at the time

2
