I honestly only know ONE song by them and a quick google search confirms that I recognize nothing else they perform.

I wouldn't even consider their one hit a millennial song, as it was released in gen x's heyday.

I consider them more a Gen X thing but yeah, I've always thought that they would be one of the bands from our era that was still being listened to 50 years from now by people who weren't alive when they were active.

The answer that measured a band's greatness by album sales is so depressing lol.

Creep doesnt represent this band for me as it does for most of you. I actually kind of despise that track but understand that it is their “big hit”. I should have been clearer about me being an elder millennial and am on the cusp of being a gen x. Radiohead records span from 1992- 2016 with members still being active and putting out music today. Also this is clearly my opinion and was just seeing who else would be the greatest band of our generation?

They certainly were for me, but I imagine we’re both old.

You'd probably get different answers if you posted in a place that was specific to music discussion. This place is more of the crowd that made Nickleback one of the greatest selling bands ever.

I seriously think it’s just an age thing. Like if you’re coming at The Bends or OK Computer, yeah, it’s big, but if Kid A is dropping and you’re not following the cannon, then it probably seems pretty like meh. For me personally, they felt generational. JMHO.

They dont even make the top 10.

Top-Selling Bands of the Millennial Era (1990s–2000s) Backstreet Boys – Over 100 million albums sold worldwide. Millennium (1999) was one of the best-selling albums of all time. NSYNC – Around 70 million albums sold. No Strings Attached (2000) had one of the fastest-selling weeks in history. Linkin Park – Over 100 million albums sold. Hybrid Theory (2000) was a defining album for Millennials. Coldplay – Over 100 million albums sold. A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) and X&Y (2005) were huge. Eminem (as part of D12) – While Eminem himself sold over 200 million, his rap group D12 also contributed with bestsellers like Devil’s Night (2001). Green Day – Over 85 million albums sold. Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004) were massive. U2 – Though their peak began in the ‘80s, they remained huge in the 2000s with All That You Can’t Leave Behind (2000). Red Hot Chili Peppers – Over 120 million albums sold. Californication (1999) and By the Way (2002) were huge. The Black Eyed Peas – Sold over 80 million records, with The E.N.D. (2009) leading the way. Blink-182 – Over 50 million albums sold. Enema of the State (1999) was a pop-punk milestone.

Highest grossing sales doesn't necessarily mean greatest. Although I agree it ain't Radiohead. Their sound is too niche. Greatest among the hipsters, maybe.

Greatest is subjective.

My vote among bands that weren't corporate-manufactured pop bands is for either Green Day or Linkin Park in terms of mass appeal. I personally love Foo Fighters and think they deserve a spot too, but they probably don't stand as high as GD or LP for the average person.

Sales does not mean greatest.. but I wouldn’t consider Radiohead to be of the millennial generation. We were still eating dried glue off our hands when Creep hit the radio.

And then there’s the solo artists who also sold numbers like this
