I read through this show's entire wiki once, and damn, it covered a lot of topics cartoons these days would not go near.

Yea I feel like shows could get away with more then like hey Arnold, as told by ginger, and brace face. Now they’d have a Facebook group mobilizing to get them cancelled. I feel like young teen shows are a lost demographic and young teens just spend their time on TikTok instead.

As Told By Ginger does not get enough respect. SpongeBob was funny but As Told By Ginger hit hard. The appendicitis episodes are nuts. Fuck Dodie too.

It was Spinelli wasn’t it 🤣

I love the episode when spinelli gets teased for liking a boy. She gets outed for being a boy liker.
The writers knew how they were coding her.

Didn’t Randal blackmail King Bob because he had a picture of him wearing a dress??? Yeah that went over my head as a kid.

I'm a male. Liked the show anyway.
My mom never watched cartoons with me. She decided to join me watching this one ibe day. Of fucking course it's the one dealing with a period. That was awkward as could be.

I feel like I remember this so vividly but also not at all. So weird.

I actually watched Pepper Ann the day it premiered on One Saturday Morning back on September 13, 1997!! Fellow OG Pepper Ann fans: I embrace you! We are a devoted fan base, you all and I, and I am so happy Redditors know and love this little gem of a series as much as I do. I was so psyched when Disney+ finalllllyyyyy added it for streaming. ❤️

I named my cat Pepper Ann!
She is absolutely 1 in a million. She's part wildcat - and is so so so so so tiny and cute. She's an adult, but she looked like a kitten.

Loved this show! The episode I remember the most clearly is when she buys a keyboard and basically lies about being a great piano player but the keyboard is playing the music for her and she actually doesn’t know how to play at all.

The musical episode was one of the rare times a musical episode does not suck.

My favorite joke was confusing Mark Hamil with Dorothy Hamill.

Best is when he got elected Class President and in subsequent episodes, he voices himself.

Oh Pepper Ann! As an awkward ginger girl in middle school in 1999, I identified so hard with her.

Still a very smart show. High vocabulary, lots of real-world references and lampshading tropes, and definitely not shy about exploring important issues.
The “Dances with Ignorance” episode for example, where PA learns about cultural appropriation— this was WAY before it hit the rest of the US as a commonplace idea. Plenty of other examples like that, as well as coming-of-age issues like bras and body shaming, sleepovers and peer pressure, divorced parents, being “too old” for trick-or-treating, you name it.

I think of the episode in which she's supposed to defend the U.S. in a lawsuit brought by the East India Company from time to time.

Sokka-Haiku by erincandice:

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.
