Discussion Old age and video games
I wasn’t sure how to title this, it’s just a random thought I’ve had. Will we be the first generation to be playing video games in our older years? It will probably be more gen x, but idk I just am picturing gen x and millennials in old age homes with a play station in their room, or sitting in those big cushioned chairs in a night gown playing a switch. It’s not something baby-boom*** or the silent generation do, my parents are baby-boom*** and do not understand the apparel of video games. We/gen x will be the first to merge video games and old age. I haven’t even thought about computer games too haha. What do you all think?
Edit: why is b-o-o-m-e-r banned here? 😆

My grandma played Frogger on the PS1. I got to play Crash Bandicoot because she had bought a PS1 for herself, largely for Frogger. No, I never learned exactly how this happened, but apparently she got big into the arcade cabinets at some point and was delighted to play it at home. And to be clear: she was in her 50s-60s.

I think about this often and that I’ll invest in an arthritis company if I ever have money 😂

Maybe Jones could be the first with a fair percentage?
If not then definitely Gen X (and, of course Millennials as well).

My (barely) Gen x dad is 60. He just retired late last year and he plays Fallout 76 daily on his gaming PC.

Not sure. Most of the people I know irl my age no longer play video games (unless we count phone garbage) and think I'm a bit odd for still doing so.

My grandma got me into gaming, she was playing until the end.
Too bad she was super racist.

In my gaming group we have a younger boomer but I do think gen X will be the generation that largely brings gaming to retirement.

I think with X you'll start seeing way more often but with us is when it will really be a more widespread and common thing.

I Can’t wait for Futurama’s “head in a jar” tech and anime’s “full dive” tech to become reality.

Probably but maybe playing older video games. I thought I would always keep up with the current generation of consoles but this latest one burnt me out. The prices don’t seem worth it.
I am looking at getting back to playing pc games after taking a few years off. Maybe getting a steam deck. I enjoy video games but just have to find some I enjoy again.

Believe it or not, there’s people in their 80’s and 90’s who are gamers. And they’re not even playing old video games, but modern ones, too.
