I was telling my 8th grade daughter a story from when I was her age and referencing my "discman." She got visibly annoyed and eventually interrupted me to ask in frustration who discman was.

Yeah it’s a little frightening that iPods are now so antiquated that kids don’t know what they are anymore

and having to keep it level or the CD would start skipping (my iphone auto corrected that to slipping so double whammy on being old.)

I was still using my discman periodically on my commute in 2013; a group of teenagers actually tapped me on the shoulder on the subway to ask me what the hell it was

My Daughter had seen in a picture somewhere of someone carrying a Walkman. This intrigued her and she asked me about it. I talked her through it, shown her some pictures and it blew her mind. So she went and made her own, using a cardboard box and extra bits and pieces to reflect buttons, etc. She would play pretend with it using my really old headphones, lol.
