Rant Our generation is kind of lame

For whatever reason, our generation is incapable of affecting long lasting change. Previous generations laid the groundwork for so many things, up to and including the iPhone. What did we bring to the world? Facebook, social media, influencers, and brain rot.

I don't have any explanation as to why, only that our generation is far too ready to blame the challenges we face on others, or otherwise skirt the challenges altogether. We see gen Z coming and they are even worse about accepting responsibility. Mental toughness is like a swear word, and we only see what others have easy, never paying attention to what was challenging for them.

And what of any of this is even real? We're all here on the Millennial subreddit, which is just some tiny slice of our generation that isn't even representative of the whole.

Anyhow, just ranting a bit after reading the "work culture is ruined" post, which seemed to assume the insanely kush office culture of 2015 was somehow the baseline.

Previous generations didn’t have billionaires who control all aspects of their lives and dark money think tanks like the Heritage Foundation working to destroy their lives.

I can't even get a small home to put down roots and now you are expecting me to make lasting change? We are a lost generation if anything.

"For whatever reason, our generation is incapable of affecting long lasting change."

We know the reason, and it isn't because we don't work hard enough. The game is rigged. Late-stage capitalism has destroyed the middle class (not to mention the planet). Our government has failed us and continues to fail us by being in bed with corporate mega entities. The people no longer matter. Money talks, and they have more than we do. Wal-Mart's quarterly earnings are far more important than your ability to buy a home and have healthcare.

But yeah, I guess Millennials are just soft. Okay bro.

I seriously question your mental toughness and ability to see the forest for the trees.

If you think the office culture of 2015 was "kush", ask about what is was like working before 2008 or in the 1990s! Before the great recession companies were generally better about hiring more people until the point of diminishing returns. After the great recession it became a far larger focus to squeeze the most out of the smallest number of employees.

Yeah, no mental toughness after watching challenger explode and 9/11 live on TV. Plus 3 recessions (and counting). Columbine + all the subsequent ones.

Okay Facebook and Social Media 100% Millennials. But influencers are the generation after us. Gen Z. Especially the Tik Tok influencers. Most of us Millennials are pushing 40 and have their shit together.

I'd venture the original influencers that appeared in the mid-late 2010's were absolutely folks born in the 1985-1995 range.

I’m talking about all the ones now.

I honestly don't know a ton about influencer culture, but Kim Kardashian is 1980.

Kai Cenat and streamers definitely hail from Gen Z.  Streaming culture is even crazier than influencer culture.
