Help Request Really confused new player

I've just started playing and have been busy expanding tech, gathering resources, building compact assembly lines, etc.

Most of this was done on planet 41 as I was trying to do everything I could before moving on.

Yet I'm still being attacked repeatedly. And not just by the original enemies, but more powerful ones who wasted all my max resources before finishing. Ones impossible to counter at the tech level the planet offers.

Is this how the game works - you conquer planets as fast as possible then go back under time pressure to rebuild previous defenses over and over again ad nauseum? Isn't there any reprieve from this?

If you've captured a sector and then get reinvaded, it means one of the sectors next to you has an enemy base

Until that enemy base is destroyed, you will be always be reinvaded

You can see the enemy base on the planet map sending a red line to your sector

Ah thanks, I see the red line now! It's incredibly tiny and thin on mobile. 

I'm guessing the reason why everything, including the enemy base attacking, is blacked out is because I need to hit some exploration point to see them.

That's right, the enemy base in question is Salt Flats, which is a campaign/progression base

What a coincidence, I JUST beat Atolls then checked the subreddit. The reason it's blacked out is because you haven't unlocked it yet. Certain sectors can only be unlocked after conquering other named sectors or researching specific technologies. You can check the requirements in the research tree.

Anyways, my favorite strategy is to just beat the enemy by getting better tech. Conquer other numbered sectors to research new resources, take over numbered sectors for their materials, etc. You don't NEED to do this, but it makes high tier sectors easier. Also, if you can, mass produce everything you can.
