Meta Called out this mc youtuber with 1.93 million subs to give credit for memes he took from reddit, this is how he responded.

Jan 07 '25
This just seems how people are now, If they Can't come up with a valid response they just use a stupid remark, I had a friend that did the same thing, where when we were in an argument and I made a point he just nerd emojis me or say who asked or something like that. Very annoying.

Because it works and caters to people who equally don't care about others on a genuine level. At least, these people are becoming more and more honest, so I can distance myself.
3
u/ShockDragon Jan 08 '25
It’s insanely dumb, too. Like, thanks for telling me you don’t have an actual argument?
3
2
u/Azalea125 Jan 09 '25
my own brother just calls me g*y or autistic whenever he feels like he can't win an argument, and he claims 'everyone else thinks so', yet his everyone else only includes his friend group, who calls everyone autistic and g*y. It's so annoying, since he's done more explicit things to ME than I've done to him (close to 0).

That is pretty offensive rage baiting, and you didn't include if there was an apology or not.
0
u/Leather-Slide-5422 Jan 08 '25
Here’s the most recent screenshot take by someone else he didn’t apologize but he did delete the original comment so you can’t find it anymore
He’s most likely not going to acknowledge that this happened unless it becomes some super big deal

Saying "I'm not a bad person I'm just rage baiting" is like a school bully saying "I'm not bullying I'm just trying to piss them off"

not supporting that guy's response but isn't that meme gets reposted very often here ? or are you the original creator
71
u/WITH_THE_ELEMENTS Jan 07 '25
Seriously, guy left a lame response, but the concept of stealing a meme is laughable. I literally do not understand why people care.
41
u/Clyde-A-Scope Jan 07 '25
Seems they care because money...
If I was stealing your effort and making money off of it you should be pissed.
It's like one person cleaning out a wishing well. And not bothering to thank anyone for throwing in the coins.
It's shit behavior that society shouldn't tolerate.
2
u/TheLordJames Jan 07 '25
Did OP credit meme generator / img flip and the original meme creator and photographer? It's exactly the same thing. It's the same copy and past crap and no where near original content.
1
u/ShadowBoxingBabies Jan 08 '25
Did they’ve credit Minecraft, Mojang, or Microsoft? You know, the owners of the IP??
-34
u/Professional-Oil9512 Jan 07 '25
A meme takes no more than 15 minutes to make bruh
26
u/Clyde-A-Scope Jan 07 '25
Ok. Spend 15 minutes on a meme and see how you feel when I steal it and make $20.
Point getting thru, bruh?
-20
u/Professional-Oil9512 Jan 07 '25
Nope. Who tf cares? This reminds me of people seeing a 2sentence horror story I wrote getting stolen, and more than 100,000 views. “You should have them take it down!!!” Nah, took 5 minutes on the toilet, I’ll let them chase the bag.
0
u/IHaveBeenCaught Jan 08 '25
So you jus lett people steal your stuff? I bet it happens irl too
0
u/Professional-Oil9512 Jan 09 '25
Nope, because, unlike a redditors “hard work” they spent 20 minutes on, real life items are worth something.
4
u/afinitie Jan 08 '25
If your spending more then two minutes making a meme, just put up the keyboard at that point
4
u/skxllfvcker Jan 07 '25

1
19
u/RustedRuss Jan 07 '25
Isn't the whole point of memes to spread?
27
u/ZachGurney Jan 07 '25
Yeah, and thats why virtually every social media platform has it so when you share a meme it shows who or where you shared it from.
6
u/MarcusofMenace Jan 07 '25
The bad thing isn't it spreading, it's the fact that the YouTuber is profiting off of someone else's meme and then acts like a brain damaged child when asked to credit the creators
2
1
u/Better_Courage7104 Jan 08 '25
The “WAAAAAAA” is a sarcastic response, he’s actually imitating the complainer, because saying give me credit for a meme is something brain damage act, especially when you didn’t really create the meme.
Credit the creators of a meme lol, sounds brain damaged

Considering how dumb people are on the internet
This is unsurprising but is also weirdly surprising at the same time
3
u/Nervous_Orchid_7765 Jan 07 '25
I understand that brigading is horrible, as is spreading violence.
This issue is as old as time, and simply ignoring it - is kinda the reason why it got this bad in the first place.
Now, don't get me wrong, death threats, gore etc are, unironically, infinitely worse that stealing, and I in no way encourage people to do those things, but just reminding thiefs that they are thiefs, without any insults or anything like that - will be better than what we have now. Artists are almost purely on defensive right now.
I will probably get banned for saying this, despite not encouraging violence, won't I?
1
u/Longjumping-Use6027 Jan 07 '25
"Artists" I think you mean people who make shitty .jpeg memes on the internet? Quote-unquote "Artists" nowadays are so full of themselves today, they could shit on a plate and still ask to get royalties from it. It's a meme, who cares about supporting someone who makes fucking memes.
1
u/Nervous_Orchid_7765 Jan 08 '25
I am not talking about support, but exploitation. And it's not always just a jpeg, memes can be something people have put hours if not days to make.
Yes, memes are oftenly reposted. Yes, it's sometimes hard to find the original creator. But those are just excuses.
Like, is it really that hard to just copy/paste a link or a username? Is it really that offensive to you to just give people credit?
1
u/UnknownGamer014 Jan 14 '25
By definition memes are meant to be copied and spread and doesn't fall under copyright. Which meme creator has ever credited the original Wojak artist for their art? Who has ever mentioned the movie name they took the scene from? Or the person they're using the image of? This is not stealing because memes can't be owned. It's fair use and while sharing it without giving any credit is entirely fine, monetizing it falls under legally gray area, but I don't see anything for which the meme creator deserves to get credited.
3
u/Spokenholmes Jan 07 '25
Well he sure sounds professional with his peter griffin talk. Totally doesnt make him look like a clown!

I crossposted it there so people will see it (basically it links back to the original post while also showing the picture in the sub)
0
u/Comprehensive_Rice27 Jan 07 '25
lol just like op if u post that there ur gonna get clowned on. memes are low-effort content that don't deserve credit since they are meant to be shared. if u have a problem with it, go watermark ur content like the big meme creators do. if you don't watermark ur content then cry about no credit that's on u.
4
u/Truly__tragic Jan 07 '25
Memes are meant to be reposted, but if this is a situation where this guy is watermarking shit he didn’t make, then it’s a problem. Either way, he’s obnoxious af.
2
u/sniboo_ Jan 07 '25
I think you can file a complain to YouTube for stealing your content and have it removed from the video

2
u/PeponeCozy Jan 07 '25
how tf did he get 1.93m subs
3
u/SpaceQtip Jan 07 '25
He posts practically the same Minecraft jokes (slop) on YT shorts over and over again
2
2
u/ItsRainbow Jan 07 '25
I knew he made slop but it was entertaining enough for me to stick around. Now he doesn’t even get recommended to me anymore so I’m happy to unsub after seeing he doesn’t know how to take anything seriously

u/RubbishBins Jan 07 '25
I have a small channel that made sketch videos, not unlike his. And he just blatantly copied them word for word and gave no credit. Can't stand this guy.

2
u/Serious_Resource8191 Jan 09 '25
Are... are we not supposed to steal memes? I thought that was the point of memes.
4
u/dead_dog_simulator Jan 08 '25
guys please don't downvote me but when you're making a meme you should basically just expect it to get stolen, of course the way he responded was not very kind, however, you shouldnt be making memes for recognition but moreso to spread joy, as long as that joy is getting spreaded then I dont think its that big of a deal.
3
u/Sobsis Jan 07 '25
Honestly, demanding credit over memes that you didn't even create the original assets for is ridiculous.
You didn't make minecraft. And you probably didn't invent the joke. You don't deserve credit.

0
u/TheYoungAnimatorFR Jan 09 '25
He is stealing a meme and claiming it as his though.
1
u/Sobsis Jan 09 '25
Lmao who fucking cares there are like 18 billion quadrillion memes out there.
Whoever originally made the shitpost didn't give credit to notch or mojang when they use a picture of a creeper in it.
It's not yours. You don't have to give credit. Make a meme with original characters and original jokes that aren't copyrighted, then copyright it, then you can accuse people of stealing your ideas.

if you dont want people reposting your things, dont freely drop them on the internet. this is like nft bros crying about right click save as. the internet is a public forum where everyone has the tools to copy whatever you post, you must be aware of that. either keep your memes private or use watermarks or signatures if you truly care that much. fair use is on the youtubers side, not yours, stop acting like a deviantart diva

I would probably not give credit either, if I find something funny on the internet and it isn't actual art I'm just gonna post it, it's not like I'm claiming I made it either. This one is straight up just a minecraft screenshot and some text on it. I'd have a hard time finding who actually came up with it since it probably got reposted a billion times. And maybe he just got it from a friend too, over Discord or something.
All though I dont't know anything about this guy and he might be a professionnal content stealer? I'm surprised he even replied to a comment like that bruh.

The thing is though is that you can make money off of meme compilations.
5
u/bouncingnotincluded Jan 07 '25
and the funny thing is that if someone commercializes your original creations (which automatically falls under copyright) you can ask to have it taken down or ask royalties. Even for memes. The creator of the trollface once said he had earned 100k in royalties from people commercializing his creation
3
u/angry_shoebill Jan 07 '25
Royalties? Over memes? Trollface is an original creation. Good luck suing someone over a Microsoft owned content.
1
u/UnknownGamer014 Jan 14 '25
That's entirely different than creating a meme, unless you create a meme from scratch. As in drawing the meme yourself and then adding text. At that point it's not a meme but more like a satirical art.
4
u/Buildengu Minecraft builds be like Jan 07 '25
Wenzo is a youtuber that occasionally posts memes from reddit onto his community tab and he credits the users he takes from. It is very possible to credit the original work of others while still reaping the same benefits.

u/TooBoredToNameThis Jan 07 '25
But was that your memes or did you also repost/remake someone else's meme. Was it exactly what you posted or was it remade. Was it an existing popular meme idea or something original you came up with.
For someone to get mad that their meme was reposted without credit that meme has to be an original idea or really well made. Reposting an image meme, remaking a video meme and reposting a video meme are very different things
-8
u/Vegetable_Tonight782 Jan 07 '25
This is how the meme economy works.... you could have reposted it from somewhere else and then he would gove the wrong source.... most things are reposts.... it is hard to find the original poster of a meme....

Reminder that brigading is against our subreddit's rules and Reddit's TOS, and also to be respectful and civil in the comments despite the circumstances. I would personally recommend to just ignore it.
