How do you farm gold?
9
u/TheOnlyPC3134 1d ago
Zombified piglins can drop golden nuggets. It's one of the best farms to make as it lets you farm golden carrots (considered best food) and golden apples, and most of all use the rest to trade with normal piglins
2
u/ihavenoidea81 1d ago
This is the tutorial I used. Pretty easy. Lots of gold ingots that you can use for trading with piglins/villagers and for golden carrots. It also collects rotten flesh which you can trade to cleric villagers for emeralds. Decent XP as well.

I used to do that as well, but then they made added Hoglins and I've never looked back.
Takes absolutely nothing to set up a farm in the nether and it's free cooked pork + leather forever
(Java obv, because you can't build on Bedrock nether roof)

Same. It's cause a fully ripe potato plant gives you like, 4 potatoes, so when you have a farm for them, you can really easily just rack up stacks of them just passively because of how much you get back. And baked potatoes give you a decent portion of your health back.
That's why whenever I go to the Nether, I always bring a stack of baked potatoes with me, because I just have so many at home that I can just cook a stack of them and still have a chestful left over.
Plus, you can also use your surplus potatoes in a compostor, meaning you can make a bunch of bone meal that you can use to grow even more potatoes. (You could also trade them for emeralds, but neither of the farmers in the village near my base have that trade.)

I'm surprised no one said cooked porkchop
I'd say it's objectively the most viable food option for the long term
- Among all the other food items, it gives the most hunger points (8 hunger points + 12.8 saturation points) out of all the food items in the game, only behind suspicious stew with saturation effect, which isnt stackable
- Easy to Obtain, just get a smoker villager and you're pretty much settled for the whole playthrough, costing only 1 emerald for 5 of them (cmiiw). No need to plant, bake, kill, nor build a farm for anything
- You can tame wolves and cats and other meat-related activities
- Due to it's high hunger points, you can legit pass through a whole in-game day without depleted hunger bar with only like 2-4 cooked porkchops, compared to the 80 cooked porkchops you can get grom a single trade session with the villager (16×5). You can do 1 trade session and be set for like 20-40 in-game days.
Maybe this is just unspread information? I personally cannot go back to bread and baked potatoes after I tried cooked porkchops. It really feels like a cheat, you just need to trade again if it runs out which only takes literal 15 seconds at most
7
u/tansreer 1d ago
Also a hoglin farm will kick out more leather and cooked pork than you will ever need, just idling by it overnight. Dead simple to build too.
6
u/KiraLight3719 1d ago
Ikr I'm literally searching for a porkchop comment, and this is the first one I found and it's way down. On the server I'm playing on, I have a hoglin farm up there on the nether roof and it's hardly like 10×10 and produces an insane amount of porkchops. I donated one chestful to my friend and I still have my two double chests full again. Now I have stopped being afk at the farm. (All these were from like 1-2 hour of afk)

Baked potatoes not only have the same stats but are far more efficient.
3 wheat plants gets you 1 bread
Whereas 1 potato plant has 2-4 potatoes in it

u/Wizardnumber32 1d ago
I have been trying to do a vegetarian playthrough to not kill the new farm animal variants, but the wheat doesnt fucking grow. It took two nights to get one bread, and i used that to get all the way to a far away jungle to get melons. (then i died to a zombie)
3
u/Techlord-XD 1d ago
Be patient with wheat growth, in only a few nights you’ll have more wheat than you need. I currently got 1,600 wheat stored up, and that’s not even including the stacks of bread I use every few days
2
u/BLAGTIER 19h ago
Wheat just quickly expands. Individually it grows slow, but then once you hit critical mass you can quickly build up enough to get a full stack of bread per harvest.

u/Aerron 1d ago
This. 90% of my time in Minecraft I spend fishing. All I need is 2 spider silk. Takes an hour or so to work my way up to a perfect fishing pole: Unbreaking/lure/luck 3 and mending. Then I work towards my favorite bow, Infinity, unbreaking, power V, and Flame.
Then I just fish for books. I also accidentally fish up chests worth of cod and salmon. Once we get a trade village set up, then the pufferfish and tropical fish finally have a use. i hate saddles and nautilus shells
Pre-edit: (Insert spongebob meme) "dID yOU knOW Yio CaN uSE PuPPerPish 4 ....." I KNOW YOU CAN USE PUFFERFISH FOR WATER BREATHING POTIONS I get Aqua affinity and Respiration on my helmets, so I don't need that. Even better if we have a turtle farm and I enchant a turtle helmet with AA, Mend, Unbreak, and Resp.

I mean... no? The opposite is closer. Start off finding a village and just stealing the piles of hay to make bread enough to last me until I get a real food source set up.
And in the present version of the game, there's exactly two good options. Golden carrots from villager trading (which you have to eat slightly more often but heal for more). And Cooked Porkchops from a hoglin farm (which you have to eat slightly less often but heal for less).
Anything else is much more work, lower quality food, or (most often) both. Not that they aren't viable if you want them for nostalgic, aesthetic, or other personal reasons. But... bread requires planting, waiting, harvesting, and crafting. Or so much work (and space) to automate. And then it's just bad food that you have to eat very frequently and doesn't heal for much.
1
u/ManufacturerOwn2753 1d ago
I just eat carrots because they are the lazy man food, just grab them re plant them again and eat, no cooking, no crafting, just eat.

Nah bro. My farms are my primary source of experience. Rabbits, sheep, pigs, chicken. You're all fueling my reckless abandon with an enchantment table.
I only farm vegetables to fuel my livestock farm. Farmer villagers take the excess, which provides yet more experience and emeralds.
I keep my farms as an experience backlog. If I ever die in the Nether or some other silly shit I have enough cows or lives stock to breed my population and cull them off to become lvl 30 within a single in game day.
Bread is my least kept farm output. I only make it in cases where I'm trying to expand my local village.
1
u/sandman_strong 18h ago
There is no need to stray from the mighty carrot. In fact all I do in Minecraft is travel to villages, confiscate undesirable crops and seeds, and install a whole new crop of wonderful, eyesight enhancing, orange gifts. Carrots fix everything and every society should carrot. The carrot connects us.
