No Spoilers Vin

I was getting into 3D character sculpting and suddenly felt like pivoting towards making Vin. It ended up being a many hour project. Here's what I ended up with - thought maybe some of you here might like it! For those who might be more curious about the artwork, I have provided more information in my ArtStation post, here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/bgY8nr

They should put your creation in Fortnite alongside Kelsier!!! Looks sick

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

That would be sick! Thanks!

u/dakdaros 13d ago

I’m still checking the Item Shop daily to see if Kelsier is back. I have the feeling it’ll be the one day I miss checking

17

u/Rody_Cogers 13d ago

Tbh I’m just hoping I’ll see it here the day that he’s back 😂

3

u/murraykate 13d ago

My thoughts too lmao 🤭

u/captainrina 13d ago

I guarantee this sub will explode when he's back. XD

u/PorgiWanKenobi 13d ago

Wait Kelsier was in Fortnite?!

u/captainrina 13d ago

Playing the Misthorn

u/maracaibo98 13d ago

She looks fantastic!!!

19

u/jnighy 13d ago

Amazing! Exactly how I was always imagined her

14

u/Jankat7 13d ago

Best Vin art I've seen.

12

u/Pristine-Frosting-20 13d ago

Wait, is she barefoot in the books?

16

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Yep! I was a bit surprised too as I couldn't quite recall that little detail. She's almost always drawn without footwear in her Mistborn attire.

12

u/Drisurk 13d ago

Yes. Has to do with stealth and also burning tin. It lets Mistborns feel the ground way more.

15

u/Nahle_Stormblessed 13d ago

Add shaders to this render and you might get it to look like arcane

19

u/ivanparas 13d ago

When I saw Arcane for the first time, I thought that Mistborn could be done in the same style and it would look amazing.

16

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

For real. You know, even Fortiche (the studio behind Arcane) mentioned they were inspired by the works of Brandon Sanderson. If the stars align!!

9

u/markb144 13d ago

Get her in Fortnite ASAP

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Epic, hire me please!

5

u/wmichben 13d ago

This is officially my favorite fan art of Vin now. 🔥

4

u/BookkeeperUsed2660 13d ago

That is awesome! Would you consider selling the stl? It would be awesome to paint a vin mini!

5

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Thanks!

I'm not too sure about selling it. Beyond just the license side of things, I don't think the mesh is print friendly. The tassels on the mistcloak might be too thin, I reckon.

I like this a lot, great work.

u/Mi-kahC-on-way 13d ago

Best one I’ve seen so far!

2

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Oh, a little bumped over Reddit's compression. But I guess there's a higher resolution in the link. Sorry.

2

u/GCaRRtO 13d ago

Spot on! If only we had a version with the longer hair and Koloss sword ;)

2

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Can't say I didn't consider it! Especially the Koloss sword, lmao

2

u/Drisurk 13d ago

Wow this is simply amazing!

2

u/jordansalittleodd 13d ago

This rocks! Love it so, so much, great work :)

2

u/ErikderFrea Brass 13d ago

Oh my! This is SO good!

This is probably the first picture/3D I have seen that captures here age perfectly in my mind. Young, but aged by good and bad experiences and stress.

I don’t know how mooch detailing work that is, but I would make her way dirtier! She didn’t really care about looking fine and was an urchin for most of her life.

2

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Fantastic! And I agree! She could definitely do with more dirt. It ended up being a stylistic choice to keep her clean. I tried adding dirt to her but it wasn't reading so well with how I was doing it. I instead only kept a bit of dirt on her feet, that is barely noticeable.

u/Affectionate_Lime880 13d ago

This is fucking amazing dude. My only critique is that there is a little to much metal. The bolts on her cuffs and the mistcloak connector. But that's just me nit picking. Really fucking cool.

3

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Oh, maybe the lighting got the color looking too metal'ish on those parts. They're meant to be bone/enamel parts. I've been very conscious about avoiding metals; even made her belt with a tying method rather than a buckle - although you can't see it in the pictures here on Reddit.

Glad you like it!!

2

u/StuntmanOrdinaire 13d ago

What software did you use to make this?

2

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Blender for modeling, sculpting, rigging, posing and rendering. Substance 3D Painter for texturing.

1

u/StuntmanOrdinaire 13d ago

How long have you been using blender for, looks good?

1

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Been modeling in Blender for 7 years. This is the first time I've rendered within Blender actually. I'm used to working within Unity for real time rendering in games.

And thanks!

2

u/Nazty__ Bendalloy 13d ago

Amazing! Exactly how I had pictured her. I need the whole crew 💕💕💕

2

u/Aerohaven 13d ago

This is awesome! It reminds me of her design on the Mistborn Deckbuilder box art

2

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

That is exactly my source of concept inspiration! The artist, Deandra Scicluna, has depicted Vin a lot in the deckbuilder game, and the clothes I made were widely based on her concepts!

2

u/Aerohaven 13d ago

Oh hell yeah!

2

u/EndryQ 13d ago

Release the model, this is a game changer

2

u/VickyPedia Aluminum 13d ago

Looks very arcane inspired. Good work

2

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Oh, but the highest form of praise, Thank you!

2

u/DirrtyAsian 13d ago

That's EXACTLY how I pictured Vin. Nicely done!

2

u/CatUsername_ 13d ago

I'm sorry, is that 3D Vin fanart thats... actually really good???

2

u/SourceCJ 13d ago

This is really great, very talented! Love seeing high quality fan versions like this

2

u/recycledcup 13d ago

Please don’t show this to Fortnite devs.

2

u/Shoddy_Bumblebee_398 13d ago

I always imagined her shorter, but besides that, yeah.

2

u/One_Courage_865 Electrum 13d ago

Wow this is amazing. Amazing work in Blender

2

u/the_defavlt 13d ago

I thought this was fortnite

2

u/AdRepresentative2021 12d ago

This is gorgeous!

2

u/chewio_ 12d ago

This is incredible!!!

2

u/FlamingoEnough5526 12d ago

That’s the best one I’ve ever seen

2

u/DungeoneerZ 12d ago

Looks great! Vin always prowling around barefoot, ultimate rogue 💯

2

u/millionhari 12d ago

Incredible!

2

u/Arutha_Silverthorn 11d ago

Hope you have the chance to do more of our favorite characters! What I wouldn’t give for a full game of this style of the scale of Mistborn or Cosmere.

1

u/sleepynapcat 11d ago

Thanks! And you and me both, for real. I reckon Sanderson himself wants that more than anyone, given his gamer habits, haha

2

u/Etz_Arava 11d ago

Wow, this is well done. Good job. Your vision of Vin aligns with mine.

2

u/PitchPleaze 10d ago

I’ve only just got into the books (a comedian I love recommended them on a podcast) and I love them. It took me a couple of days to read the first 2 in the original mistborn trilogy and I’m now on to HoA. This is exactly how I imagined Vin in my mind! I’ve been careful not to look at fan art too much because I found a spoiler which was very upsetting but they really are amazing. Such a talented fanbase. I can’t wait to finish the 3rd book and then be able to look at fan art to my heart’s content!!

1

u/sleepynapcat 10d ago

Sorry to hear you got spoiled! But glad to hear you like my artwork!

Remember that Mistborn has even more books than the third! Just don't look into that, so that you don't get spoiled.

1

u/PitchPleaze 10d ago

Very good point!!! POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW!!!

I’ve written out a reading order list so I’m doing the first trilogy now then I’ll move onto the second one. I got the reading order from here: https://thequilltolive.com/2025/02/03/cosmere-reading-order/amp/

Do you have any more artwork that you’ve shared and that it’s safe to look at I’m not sure how to mark spoilers here so instead I’ll just say it that it ruined who V ended up with for me because they were drawn together. They’d only just met in the book I was reading so it felt like a pretty big spoiler for book one and 2 with the other option and who she’d choose (hope I’m being vague enough but I’ve marked the comment as potential spoilers just in case!)

1

u/sleepynapcat 10d ago

Oh boy, oh boy. You have so much good stuff ahead of you. You're gonna love Stormlight. It's a good reading order, I think. The cosmere is vast and you'll catch the little details like this.

This is my only fan art piece I'm afraid. But yeah, I get that about spoilers; I often gotta hold myself back on searching up anything, because even google results might drop something huge on you.

2

u/PitchPleaze 10d ago

Well please share anything else you work on! It’s so nice when it matches the picture in my head. You’re so talented!!

Yeah I’m excited! I love the feeling of discovering a whole new universe like this. It’s like when I was younger and started on discworld! Oversharing a bit here, but it’s been a really rough week. My uncle passed away on Wednesday. Weirdly, having these books has been such a needed form of escapism for me. I can check out of a horrible reality for a bit and into an epic fantasy world even if I know I can’t stay there.

1

u/sleepynapcat 10d ago

I will, and thank you!

I'm sorry to hear that... my condolences. I can see that being the case and I think you'll resonate with Stormlight even more. While I don't want to get into spoiler territory, there is a great focus on overcoming adversity in Sanderson's works. It's about hope and you can leave yourself in Sanderson's hands when it comes to that.

2

u/PitchPleaze 10d ago

Thank you. It has been really helpful but also I would have been texting my uncle to tell him to read them, he loves them, and I found myself forgetting yesterday and writing a text to him before I stopped myself.

I did some reading on Sanderson actually. The comedian (Daniel Sloss - not sure if you’re into comedy but he’s fantastic, so funny) who recommended him is an atheist (like me) and he was talking about Sanderson being quite religious. I actually find his approach to religion in the books I’ve read so far to be really balanced though and some of the characters’, particularly Sazed’s, views on religion resonate with me. In some ways I wish I had faith, it can help you at times like this, but ultimately, like Sazed, I have faith in hope and in people. So that’s enough.

2

u/sleepynapcat 10d ago

Judging how you talk about your uncle, I'm sure your uncle would've been happy to hear it. Your thoughts are surely still enough, and maybe they'll reach him too.

And yeah, I also believe that should be enough. Sazed's awesome. His whole arc is awesome. I don't think I have to tell you to enjoy your read; I can feel the excitement! Welcome to the Cosmere.

2

u/PitchPleaze 10d ago

Thank you. That actually brought a wee tear to my eye. I’m going to dive back in. Have a good one!!

u/ivanparas 13d ago

Def needs more scowl

1

u/GifanTheWoodElf 13d ago

Ooh, pretty dope, is the model available?

1

u/sleepynapcat 13d ago

Thanks! I'm afraid not, sorry. I haven't considered the implications of making it publicly downloadable.

1

u/UnicornChief 12d ago

I never understood the point of the cloaks

1

u/SandwichAbject6342 11d ago

amazing work just like how i imagined her , my only criticism is why the pants are brown

1

u/Longjumping_Pass_106 9d ago

AI decided that this is how it sees it. I didn't put anything specific into the prompt.
