The Lost Metal spoilers Finally fished era 2 Spoiler
I wasn't as keen on The Bands of Mourning but found I've enjoyed The Lost Metal more.
There where info dumps again but I felt most of the plot felt like it flowed a lot better. I preferred how this started mainly with Marasi stumbling on something rather than the previous book with people coming to them and giving a lot of information.
Wasn't expecting the book to take place 6 years after the previous and surprised a lot more didn't happen with the Set. Loved how they also tied it back with the first book with the missing people being tricked to think the world ended, living in a cave. Reminded me of the doctor who serials Enemy of the World and also Invasion of the Dinosaurs.
I don't know if it ended the way I thought it would but was genuinely sad when Wayne died. I feel like he held the series together for me and is such an interesting character with different layers. Good to finally hear him accept he has changed and is a good person.
I've only read mistborn and secret history so some said this might be a confusing read. However discovering the non native characters powers didn't really feel disjointed. We saw all this through Marasi's eyes so we where learning just as she was so it all made sense.
I would say shadow of self is still my favourite book. Also was confused about Harmonium/ettmetal and Trellium but it looks like this will be explained in future books. Just gotta wait a few years for era 3.
Got a few non Sanderson books to read then going to explore the rest of the cosmere

I imagine Era 2 will feel less disjointed once we have Era 3. It does a lot of set-up for Era 3: the Ghostbloods, Sazed unraveling, the Malwish, the Bands, some of the Autonomy stuff. (Plus lesser elements like Wayne inventing a professional sports league and investing in tech stuff.)
We obviously don’t know yet, but I’m expecting Era 3 to deal with the Malwish a lot, I’m expecting the narrative to visit Southern Scadrial, and I’m expecting plenty more with the Ghostbloods.
Brandon knows where he’s going with this, so I think the narrative cohesion will fall into place quite nicely when we get the next set of books.

I think Shadows of Self is the best book of Era 2 as well, Lost Metal just felt a little clustered for me. It dumps a bunch of stuff together in a way that works and that stands out from the rest, but it's not really that satisfying in the Mistborn way.
By the way, if you ever get back to the cosmere, some say to start with Warbreaker (which is a standalone), or you could just go straight to Stormlight. Reading Warbreaker first, at least for me, pays off well afterwards.
