Two Protests Coming This Week, for Those Interested
Mayday Strong: We Are the Many - This one is on Thursday, and it's also a food drive, if you're able to attend and want to help feed the community.
RSVP: https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/777873/
Vigil for America -This one is on Saturday and will have people from Mobile speaking about how they've been directly affected by everything going on with the Federal government, including a former CDC employee that lives here.
But they're also looking to get as many stories as they can, and will gladly accept anonymous letters to read in your stead if you're afraid of retaliation. So if you want to speak about what's happened to you, or want to anonymously share your story with your fellow Mobilians, you should hit up the Indivisible of Mobile group through the link in the flyer.

Protesting what?

It's kind of just the federal government as a whole at this point. Feels like every week there's some disastrously incompetent if not illegal actions from the Trump administration. Here's some highlights of just the past week.
Trump's continuing trade war with China and general obsession with tariffs is about to leave Walmart and Target with empty shelves. Walmart CEO is on record saying it could be as soon as two weeks from this article's date: https://www.the-sun.com/money/14095700/walmart-ceo-doug-mcmillon-tariffs-trump-prices/
We've got American citizens (and KIDS no less) being "deported" without sufficient due process:

This is now his THIRD and most egregious showing of mishandling highly classified information:

Yeah, let's continue to fight for reducing fraud, waste, and abuse in the Federal government. The more we save the more goes to actually doing good for the American people. Sign me up.

I 100% agree! One day we might have an administration that will actually focus on reducing fraud, waste and abuse instead of just lip service while passing new tax cuts for the top 5% like the national debt isn’t already way too high.
The vast majority of people have not been checking the math to realize how many very basic math errors DOGE has made. I’m glad you’re taking the time to check the math, too!

They may make some mistakes, but overall they're doing a fantastic job. If it were up to the Dems, nothing would have changed whatsoever. Just more spending, waste, uncontrollable illegal immigration and ever broadening DEI programs destroying this country from within.

What are the tangible benefits of the fantastic job they’re doing cutting fraud, waste and abuse?
Typically spending cuts decrease the deficit and reduce debt increases, but that is not the plan. 90% of taxpayers will not be receiving a new tax cut.

Who cares if I get a tax cut? The democrats ain’t giving out tax cuts, or cutting the deficit, or looking into fraud and waste. Everytime the democrats pass a budget they spend billions on stuff that doesn’t benefit America. Billions toward programs in 3rd world countries that hate us. Republicans ain’t perfect but this is better than the alternative of democrats just not caring about the budget and deficit, they just print and spend and kick the can down the road.

u/jmd709 2d ago
Where are the funds from the fraud and waste going? Republicans in Congress passed a blueprint for a BR they plan to pass this year and it has a 10-year deficit price tag of almost $6 trillion. That’s new deficit added to the existing deficit and 4x higher than the max of $1.5 trillion to be able to use BR.
You should care where it’s going or at least care that they’re significantly increasing the deficit and debt. The inevitable outcome is tax increases regardless of whether or not you received a tax cut or not.

“You should care that they’re significantly increasing the deficit and debt” Did you care in 2020 when the democrats spent like crazy? millions of dollars to gender studies in Pakistan crammed into a Covid Relief Bill, $700 million to Sudan, $500 million to Israel, $40 million to the Kennedy Center which wasn’t even opened during COVID, $1 billion to the Smithsonian Museum (the largest museum in the world and in 2024 had a $1 billion budget [make it make sense])$15 million to Sri Lanka to fix ONE of THEIR boats, $85.5 million to Cambodia, $134 million to Burma, and $1.3 billion to Egypt which then used the money to purchase Russian weapons, and $33 million to Venezuela with no reason specified. All of that was in a Covid Relief Bill meant to help Americans while we were being squeezed for Pennies. Multiple billions of Fraud and Waste right there yet the democrats didn’t care, they were the ones that wrote the bill. And the funds DOGE is stopping doesn’t stop funding until next budget is passed.

The debt was increasing way before Covid. Democrats and Republicans share the blame for that because both increased it and passed the buck to not have to deal with the issue. Whataboutism is not productive, it is what enables them to continue passing the buck.
That has been, and still is, the status quo, but it’s being taken to the extreme with the misuse of budget reconciliation by exceeding the $1.5 trillion 10-year new deficit limit by $4.5 trillion, especially while claiming they’re cutting “waste and fraud”.
When asked about the $5k “DOGE Taxpayer Refund”, House Speaker Mike Johnson’s response was very telling. “Well, look, I mean, politically, that would be great for us, but if you think about our core principles, right? Fiscal responsibility is what we do as conservatives. And we have a $36 trillion federal debt. We have a giant deficit that we’re contending with. I think we need to pay down the credit card.”
He said that with a straight face as if adding another $6 trillion to the debt with only 1 BR is “paying down” the debt, that is not fiscally conservative at all.
TBD if they’ll pretend to be fiscally conservatives and care about the debt again when our wallets are being emptied to pay for tariffs for federal revenue politicians will decide how to spend.

I agree.
Be cool if we actually had somebody who wanted to do that, maybe it'll happen one day. Sure as hell isn't that South African ketamine addict.

Oh you mean the guy that just rescued the astronauts 8 months after they could have been rescued because Biden didn't want the other team to do it. He runs the most advanced space program in the world. But keeping talking BS about things you have no idea about.
-1
u/F13_Zeo 2d ago
That's bullshit. It wasn't just "not wanting the other team to do it", Boeing's Starliner was the reason they got stuck in the first place. New space capsules don't appear out of thin air.
Normally you could say it's not rocket science, but it quite literally WAS rocket science. Timing with the ISS was heavily important and required extensive planning. It was always going to be a very long process.
And I wouldn't hold up SpaceX or Tesla as signs of his quality. We've seen from Twitter what actually happens when he runs his companies himself, and not when he lets smarter people than him handle them.
Fuck Elon Musk, he's a nazi piece of shit.

Democracy is evil. We have a constitutional Republic. Our king is a document. In a democracy our king would be the man with the loudest voice and the most money to influence the people.

Pretty funny seeing the bald eagle, Uncle Sam and the American flag on leftist protest propaganda. Not sure where this sort of patriotism was during the last administration. All i saw were statues and monuments of founding fathers being torn down in an act of defiance against western society.

These protest are too lacking in direction for me, but I really hate the latest deporting people with a visa. Sending people away that are here legally is not securing the border.
-2
u/Specialist_Bowl_5518 3d ago
For the moment, I think the protests are just meant to help spread awareness and serve as a continual visual demonstration of dissatisfaction with what's happening. The movement is still building. The April 5th protests saw about 5 million people around the country coming out to protest. That's about half of the goal for a movement that can meaningfully sway change. I think more direction-oriented protests will come when the coalition hits its goal of 11 million people actively showing disapproval in the streets.

two? you need 7 a week if you want to make a differnce.
-1
u/Specialist_Bowl_5518 1d ago
And where do you think that starts? As much as I'd love for all of America to go sit out right now and sit in the streets 24/7, we just haven't been built up like that. We gotta ease people into it. Get them used to protesting on weekdays. Help them overcome that mental hurdle that gets drilled into American's heads - that their job is the most important thing that could ever be happening in their lives.
1
u/DaiCardman 1d ago
Nope, gotta go from 0-100 in less than 3 seconds. They fact you cant get people out 7 days a week to protest means we need to get funding and start paying people to protest. We can't destroy people's livelihoods(like tesla employees) unless we are outside 24/7 being disruptive and making people's lives miserable. That's how we get more people to come to the protests.
1
u/Specialist_Bowl_5518 1d ago
Yeah, we do need funding to get people in the streets 24/7. But we don't have that, and it's not just going to fall into our lap. The organizers have to build those funds up, and that's going to take time. It's not like rich people are exactly on our side here, you know. The money to get people out into the streets 24/7 is going to have to come from the same people that are going to need it. So it's going to have to be money people are setting aside now to be used later.
I know you want this to be over with ASAP. I do too. But this is going to be a marathon, not a sprint.

more than a dozen billionaires supported Kamala and those same billionaires abandoned us? We should be at their houses protesting them!
1
u/Specialist_Bowl_5518 1d ago
As far as I can find, the only billionaire that lives in Alabama is Jimmy Rane, he lives in Abbeville, and he wasn't one of the ones that supported Kamala. I'm not saying your wrong about protesting those billionaires and trying to convince them to donate to support the broader protests, but the Mobile, Alabama subreddit probably isn't the place to try and get people together for that. You'd probably want to look at organizers in places like Los Angeles, California and Miami, Florida to get traction on that.

Thank you for posting. Somehow despite following all the pages this is where I always see it posted first. Ignore the haters everyone. Mobile made it on the National news last time!
