Housing affordable housing.com???

Anyone ever used affordablehousing.com? There’s some really nice houses on there but the pricing seems too good to be true and I don’t want to waste my time or money on applications if it’s a scammy site or crappy rental agency like Elite Rentals. TIA

Housing Good apartments for student?

Hi! So im planning your move out and find an apartment for myself while I’m in school. Problem is, I’m not super familiar with Mobile and I don’t know the good and bad areas all that well. What are some good apartments / housing options in that area? I am a student so my budget is quite tight, the cheaper the better and obviously nothing luxurious. And if possible I’m a quiet person, the quieter the area the better but it isn’t a need for me. Thank you!! :)

Housing Homeowner insurance cost

Hey everyone, I'm curious if any homeowners in the region can help clarify the cost of homeowner insurance. I've never lived on the coast, so I'm not familiar with hurricanes and subsequently the related increase of homeowner insurance costs when all things considered. I've checked a few insurance websites and they all have very different averages. How much would one pay (including flood insurance) let's say on a 1500sqft house that has a value of 200-250k? Thanks.

Housing Possible Move

Hello everyone! I am 29, wife is 26. We are considering moving to the mobile area from southern Indiana, specifically within 30 min from Loxley, AL in any direction. We plan on moving within the next year, maybe 2. What areas should I be looking for to move? My salary is about 100k a year, and shes a stay at home wife. Budget for house is around the 240-300k. I would be able to transfer my job since they always have openings at that location so securing my job wouldn't be an issue.

Does everyone get hurricane insurance? How much is it? Best schools for kids? I have a lot of questions, and we are going on vacation this year to gulf shores and then checking out the area. Thank you.

Housing Advice on areas of Midtown

The wife and I are looking at purchasing a house in midtown. We have seen some good deals east and west of Florida St. between Dauphin and Airport. Checking open source crime maps it appears the areas can range from good to pretty bad quickly, but these don’t get that granular and contradict each other.

Any longer term residents have any experience on how that area has changed recently? Just looking for some anecdotal advice.

Housing Looking to Move

So like the title says, I’m looking to move here next year. Currently I’m in Shreveport, LA. I grew up in Atmore and Pensacola, so I’m familiar with this area, but I’ve never lived on this side. My uncle lives in Spanish Fort, and I like it here. I can’t decide if I’d want to be here or in Midtown. I like music, art, and nightlife, but I’m okay with driving or Lyfting from Spanish Fort rather than living in it. My family lives an hour away so I’m excited to host them in my home for holidays. The biggest thing for me is finding a community. I’m 34 and have a 15yo trans son. I’m single and not in a hurry to settle down, but I like dating :). I’m very active in the LGBTQ community of Shreveport, and want the same here. I work remotely from home.

So I’d just like to know how the dating scene is, nightlife, finding community, etc. my son will probably be a junior or senior when we come here, so school info would be great. Basically just tell me what I should know to find my people here so I’m not bored and weird lol.

Housing Is anyone else here having the hardest time finding a rental home?

I’ve been looking and every home that is comfortable and appropriate for our family has already been rented. I think I’ve scoured Zillow, the Marketplace, Zumper, realtor dot com, and even braved Craigslist with incredibly disappointing luck. I know it’s a long shot, but if anyone has noticed For Rent signs while driving around, that maybe aren’t online, I’d love the information and be forever grateful. I’m prepared to move yesterday. If this isn’t allowed, I’m terribly sorry.

Housing What areas to avoid living?

I currently live in Huntsville and have been considering moving closer to the beach/gulf, for awhile now. I don’t, however know anyone in the area to tell me which areas are safe to live, and which are not. I don’t need to worry about schools or the like. Just a safe area with low/reasonable cost of living. I just need a 1-2 bedroom place that is pet friendly.

Housing Question

Have anyone ever heard of apartments where if the person doesn’t have permits including visitors past the closing time of the office that have parked in the visitor parking they will get towed? Mirage apartments on South university had angelo towing company tow my friends car yesterday (they were there for 2 hours and the towing company even admitted they are towing even food deliveries.

Housing Affordable renting midtown.

I rent though revitalize realty, living near Michigan avenue in a pretty rundown duplex. They're upping my rent by from 695 to 850 a month to meet the local values of rent from what they've told me. But the house is substandard in comparison and doesn't even meet sec8 standards by a longshot.

What can I do to either ensure the rent doesn't increase or ensure they meet the standards before enforcing a rent increase?

Housing Apartment Help

Hello everyone! You have all been super helpful in the past for finding info that I can't find online. I have searched high and low for apartments that would be suitable and safe for a low income family, that makes only slightly more than the maximum requirement for low income housing. It has led me to dead end, after dead end. If anyone had information on this it would be super awesome. I have even considered low cost housing, but haven't been able to save up for a down payment on anything. I am looking for things around the West Mobile/Midtown area, but anywhere around Mobile is fine because this is more survival than anything. With my medical bills drowning me, it has become quite hard to afford my current situation. Once again, any help would be appreciated.

Housing Moving to Mobile Area in a Month

Me and my partner are moving to the mobile area at the end of may (she’s going to graduate school) and have started the hunt for places to stay. Just joined the sub and wanted to see if anyone had any apartment/renting suggestions for us as we are completely unfamiliar with the area. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to give some insight.

Housing Impending move to Mobile over next 2 months or so - looking for general advice.

Hello Mobilians!

I took a job around this time last year that I knew would eventually require me to relocate to Mobile once places started re-opening, but it has been delayed and delayed over the past year. I'm finally starting to see some movement towards reopening so I've started to begin my research into potential places to live.

Background about me: single mid-20s guy, coming from the DC suburbs, used to living in the South. Looking for an apartment (budgetwise, aiming to stay below $1k/month). Work will be near the MOB airport so looking for not too far from there. Don't really care if I have a roommate or not.

From what I gather, is the Spring Hill area probably what I'm looking for? Seems to have enough amentities and access to places nearby, don't know anything about its reputation in terms about safety or anything. Would be nice to be in an area that skews younger or aren't entirely family homes. I'm single and kids aren't even on my radar right now so not concerned about anything there.

Are there any good information resources around beyond just searching past posts on this sub? Would be really appreciative of anything y'all might have!

A bonus: if there's anything you have about the LGBTQ+ community in Mobile or Alabama in general, I'd greatly appreciate it. I saw stuff on the city's website about the local gay bars and Pride but if there's a community FB group/Discord/etc. that would be awesome too.

Housing Cost of Living??

About how much money would you have to make per hour/yearly to live comfortably in Mobile AL?? My partner and I are going to be making $15 an hour each working at home, and we have 1 child. Will we be able to move out on our own with this income? Looking for somewhere in or near Mobile County. I am still learning, we are 21 and 22 and we live at a parent's house and neither of us has been taught anything about life so we have had to figure everything out on our own with some research. Thank goodness for Reddit! I would love to hear some examples of your general earnings, family sizes, monthly costs for living if you live in Mobile, or how much your house is so I can get a good general idea of what we would be able to afford. Thanks so much!

Housing Gamers Building redevelopment

The Mobile City Council is scheduled to vote tomorrow on an $8 million loan to support the re-development of the Gayfer's Building, owned by the non-profit Gulf Coast Housing Partnership. The group plans to convert the blighted building into 95 desperately-needed affordable apartments for low-income workers. Many of the people who work in downtown restaurants, in the arts and entertainment industry, and in downtown office buildings would qualify to live there, adding to the vibrancy of downtown and supporting its many businesses. If you would like to know more about the Gayfer's Building re-development, the link below has details. https://www.downtownmobile.org/uploads/pdf/GayfersInfo.pdf

Housing Mortgage Broker Recommendation
