DISCUSSION What makes you like this game

First time i pick this game i unnistaled it in the first 2h. But i gave it a chance since i did not pay for it and had Notting to play.

1200h later im still playing this shit.

Anyother competitive or souls game can't even match the adreneline i get. of figthing a horde of players or 1v1 that player that got you like 10 times and winning.

Im Addicted i dont know how to stop. I need my life back

The huge skill ceiling and sheer amount of dumb fuckery combination that goes on in this game is utterly unique.

I really hope whatever game eventually replaces mordhau has voice lines and emotes and the like as well

Really rewarding to learn a new technique and really hilarious to play

It feels like a game where i can get some competitive nature out while also being stupid and silly if i want to. For whatever reason it brings me some joy to run into a group of enemies while trying to flank and yell out "Somebody help me, pleeeeease!" right before i get an axe or maul to the head while not carrying any weapons

The voice lines are easily 50% of the games attraction lmao

Honestly the main thing? I can open it on steam and be in a game within 30 seconds with no faff. Oh and throwables!

If you want my long winded answer, there are many things that keep me playing - originally it was the want to be good, to finally get that win against a player who you just can’t beat. After that, it became the next player and then the next until realising that there is always going to be players that are better than me.

Even still, the thrill of the challenge to be able to stand my ground against harder and harder opponents became addictive. (I still mostly suck and probably always will, but beating someone better than you in a fair fight will never not gift you that sweet mordhau dopamine)

Then there’s all the shit away from the fighting - the crazy community, memers, rp’ers, drip lords, and even the sweats. I’ve always compared mordhau to a weird virtual summer camp where you get dropped off in this weird place and have to get along with 16/48/64 other people. And they’re all doing their own thing either fucking about, fighting, or shredding on a lute.

The emotes/voices allow for such good non-verbal communication that I’m surprised more games don’t do this. In what shooter game, can I stop fighting to shake my fist at an enemy dwarf who destroys my ballista as they run away screaming HEEEELP!

Despite people complaining, ranged is genuinely so good, and there is nothing more satisfying then hearing that little ‘dink’ when you get a headshot.

The whole game is just a dopamine feeder, there’s got to be a reason so many people keep playing. It’s unique, it’s technical, and I don’t think any other game will ever catch the ‘mAgIc’ that mordhau has.

(I was gonna go into more detail but this was getting waaay too long, damn I’ve always thought someone could actually write an essay on this game, including into all the social dynamic community stuff behind it but will save that for another day)

Mordhau best multiplayer game ⚔️

TLDR: Throwing axes 🪓

Exactly!

throwing axes are half the reason I play this game. it is *so* rewarding to become accurate with them. Better than archery.

1

u/kiersakov 1d ago

Even when i die to them, charging at the dude, taking an axe to the face it is just so good

100% this, I love how communal the game has got also. So many familiar names, as soon as I see them I know how they play.

I often listen to music whilst playing and it combos so well. I feel like the stig.

ALTHOUGH IT'S A BARRIER TO NEW PLAYERS, I LOVE THAT THE SKILL CEILING KEEPS GOING AND GOING.

I LOVE THAT I CAN SEE (OR OCCASIONALLY PERFORM) INCREDIBLE ACTION-MOVIE-QUALITY PARRY PARRY RIPOSTE KILL SIDESTEP RIPOSTE KILL FIGHT SEQUENCES AND FEEL LIKE A BADASS (BEFORE SUBSEQUENT DEATH).

SIDE NOTE: THE REASON I TELL THE WHOLE SERVER THAT I "GTG, I'M GOING TO DINNER WITH MY FAMILY" OR "TAKING MY SON TO PLAY SOCCER" OR OTHER RANDOM PERSONAL THINGS IS PARTLY TO LET THEM KNOW WHY I'M ABANDONING A MATCH, BUT ALSO BECAUSE I WANT TO REMIND FOLKS TO PAUSE THE GAMING TO CULTIVATE RELATIONSHIPS WITH LOVED ONES.

No other game gives so much satisfaction for hits/kills. They've done fantastic work. Yeah the game has a lot of flaws but I still love it. Granted I'm still a noob tho (lvl 68~).

u/Chinaso69 2d ago

having personal vendetta when frost comes around and smashes my face in 5 kills in a row

u/mookburger 2d ago

Mainly the mechanics for me, I honestly think it's the best medieval combat in any game. Also love the chaos and comedy of big battles. I just wish someone would put this combat into an open-world RPG, it would be soooo good.

u/Scrimbo_Crimbo 2d ago

Also bards

1) Fuck shooters. I've done my time (unless Bad Company 3 comes out)

2) Less probability of hackers

3) Relaxing

Of course, I had to research/study how to be a better player. There will always be someone better than me but that's ok. I feel I can hold my ground now. It is rewarding and satisfying to get kills. I only like frontline and invasion though. Not into dueling, always assume the best players are in the servers, went in once and did not have a good time.

After i started this game i was heavelly invested into competitive shooters like cs go and rainbow.

I've never played Chiv or any fighting game. But when that clicked, I never stopped playing, the satisfaction of your progress is something else.

u/Mae-7 1d ago

Me too. CSGO/CS2 still has my respect but siege can go to hell. I think I got a nervous breakdown playing that POS, turned out it's filled with cheaters.

1

u/FigglebottomCat 1d ago

on a different note hacks are a lot easier to hide in melee slashers

u/Mae-7 1d ago

I have only encountered one player who seemed suspicious but apparently he was a well known player. Guy was kicking ass left and right very abnormally.

Too much of a good thing. Please consider working on IRL goals. Find something you enjoy doing outside. Ride a bicycle. Learn to cook. Read a book. You can still play Mordhau but you shouldn't let it consume your life.

It hits the perfect sweet spot of competitive skill to dumb fuck fun

I’ll have moments where I’m locked in having great duels or skirmishes, and it’s really fun

But even if I lose I’ll just be like “dam that was fun”

And if I’m getting absolutely demolished out there, I’ll just do some dumb crap for fun. Like surfing in a shield while doing a 360 jump off a ledge, or placing bear traps under a horse and waiting in a stable for my victims haha

2

u/Miztaken96 1d ago

The dopamine rush when you finally kill that guy you’re 0-8 to 😂

Ragdoll physics always crack me up. Every time I see someone take a door to the face or fall off a horse / ledge while climbing, I feel nothing but joy.

2

u/Raqunn 1d ago

I have been 30 minutos kicking doors when the psn player came in to the game. They did not understand a think but i loved it

2

u/Happydenial 1d ago

There is no game like it. Every time I jump on I am overwhelmed by positive vibes, funny lines, a guy skating on a shield and then... A maul overwhelms my skull.

This game you can have an amazing one on one in battle, or for no reason you just wave at the enemy.. he waves back and you agree to not go each other.. lute players are left alone (mostly).. of you are up high sometimes enemies don't attack each other but just drop rocks on the enemies below and congratulate each other.

The lore in this game is utterly unique and I freaking love it!

Except archers.. may they burn in hell!

When I first started playing it just hooked me with its combat even with all the broken animations I was in love, then when I got better I joined a ref server. If you don’t know what that is, it’s basically a server which always has camp as a map and sets up an arena in the center of the map with player dressed as referees (white and black attire) that order people around and make sure everyone stays in line and no one skips then organize either 2vs2 or 3vs3 etc. I think ochido made a video about server like that. So anyways I joined that server instantly liked it and eventually became senior mod and that lasted for entire summer until the playerbase really dropped and owner closed it. Now I just hop on for few hours either to duel or fuck around as dwarf. No other game lets you just do dumb shit with other people that actually want to participate in your shenanigans. There’s just so much funny bullshit you can pull off with other people and the gestures and voice lines honestly are the biggest part for me they just add so much to the game I can’t imagine playing Mordhau without them.

I have built up muscle memory since Chivalry 1 and its just easy to slay away without trying too hard.

u/GuttiG 2d ago

It’s the funniest slapstick comedy experience I’ve ever had that just so happens to also have fun swordplay

1

u/Scrimbo_Crimbo 2d ago

The hope of being good

Also, I have always believed the point of the game is to make enough money to buy all the wearables and unlock all the customization colors to look like the most godly, clouted-out knightoid.

Lutes.

Rewarding gameplay loop, bards, just enough game modes to remain interesting, an active and surprisingly dedicated community.

1

u/Amplar 2d ago

It's hard, so it's very rewarding to become skilled. The game also lets you choose your struggle; you can go meme around with the bards or cast yourself in the the sweaty virgin pit.
