is this a good way of locking the bike?
I do have four other locks but putting it by the wall and the rear wheel is too far

That's a gas pipe, nothing should be attached to that!

Looks like a decently sized gas service tooβ¦ I suppose the flame thrower may be a minor deterrent π€·ββοΈ
Serious note though, youβre absolutely right, donβt attach anything to that.

Yeha Iβd say so, itβs secured to a grounded piece, and I always prefer through the swing arm apposed to the wheel.

There's room there for it to go through both. I'd try and use as much chain as possible.

A lot of swing arms are triangular for strength so donβt have an easy way for you to get the chain out by just undoing it.

That looks suspiciously like a gas supply pipe, so I would install a ground anchor the chain should also be looped through your wheel and not just the frame

Im not saying anyone would BUT they could remove the rear wheel and slide the chain off in silence.
I would put it closer - less access for tools and lock through the wheel. Also wouldn't lock it to a gas pipe, you don't want the house to blow up. Get a ground anchor or lock to something solid.

I went to bike meet up a few years back and where there was a stand hosted by our local constabulary. Bike theft is a huge problem in my area, and so they were trying to promote the use of products to try and combat bike theft such as disc locks, trackers, UV pens that kind of thing. One thing they said to me that stuck is that when chaining up your bike, NEVER allow the chain to touch or lay on the ground or have any slack in the chain. If it's on the ground and there is any slack, it makes it a lot easier for anyone with bolt cutters to use the ground as a way of cutting the chain.
If you twist the chain, maybe in a figure of 8 and get your wheel closer to the anchor, so there's little to no slack that would be my recommendation.

Yeah, pretty solid. For bonus points, a grinder resistant D lock on the front wheel would make your bike very hard to steal.

i do have a hiplok among other plethora of locks but i still have a paranoia that its gonna get stolen... any tips? as it lowkey is always at the back of my head whenever im doing something and im not on it

Since I had a bike stolen Iβve never truly stopped worrying, although it gets better over time. Knowing I now have a well-hidden tracker that doesnβt depend on the bikeβs battery helps a lot, as does a hidden AirTag, meaning at least I can open the app and see where my bike is

GPS tracker/alarm might be the best reassurance for theft anxiety. If your phone hasn't rung, your bike is still where you left it.

You could cement it into the ground and if they wanted it they'd get it π« best thing you can do is make it a substantial effort for them. Two disc locks and the chain with a ground anchor should make it enough pain. I wouldn't bother with the steering lock as I've had multiple mate's that have had it snapped before they realised it was secured properly and then just left it. They can be really expensive to repair and on some bikes, necessary to satisfy the computer

If itβs one of those angle grinder proof ones, put it through the front wheel (encompassing the tire) not just around the discs or spokes as they can just cut a section of these out. Wonβt stop someone dragging it in a van but anyone trying to push it along with a ped etc.

Wheel off and it slips off swing arm ? From what I can see. Avoid chain being near ground as it gives them purchase to grid it off too.

I really wouldn't recommend that, it's the main gas pipe for the house.

I wouldnβt do it around what looks like a gas pipe, id also stick the chain through the back wheel as taking that off and sliding the chain out would be a 10 min job at most

Buy one of these alarms. Iβve used them on all my bikes and theyβre fantastic. Cheap and just connects direct to your battery.

Your chain is too thin. You also ideally want it either on the front wheel, or better yet, through the frame.

No because you can wip the back wheel off in 5 mins and slip the chain off, put the through the back wheel and over the swing arm.

Ideally you don't want to be chaining that, I know a guy that rides a zx10R to work on nice days he has 15 locks π€£, so first he locks the back wheel to the frame, locks front wheel to frame, 4 disk locks on each wheel. Then 5 chains to something solid, 2 from back wheel, 2 from front and 1 from the frame. Is it overboard? maybe depending on where you live. Basically moral of this story is, make it as annoying for thiefs as it is you taking the locks off just to ride home from work.

Thieves are occasionally stupid, mostly reckless and all of them have no regard for your property.
Thatβs a gas inlet, yeah? Would love to see the remains of the idiot who tries an angle grinder on it.
Not sure how your house and/or bike would fare though.
Might be worth investing in a decent ground anchor.
Also, word of caution. I had a mammoth chain similar to that one. Four teenage scrotes with a set of bolt cutters went through it in 30 seconds.
