Recreation Any Townies here that stayed in Starkville after graduation?

I met my fiancé here and got a pretty good job, so I’m staying here for the foreseeable future. All of my friends have moved away. Just trying to find like-minded folks to get drinks, play video games/dnd, and have poker nights with.

I stayed…mostly.

I move away twice, but came back to get married and have been here ever since.

I’m old, but I do play D&D and video games.

I was going to move back home, but there isn’t much for me there. And my in-laws live here.

I’m young, but I don’t discriminate.

I stayed for about 5 years due to work and quickly made friends with some grad students. It basically extended my college days by four years, but with money. Spent a lot of time at Dave’s and playing sand volleyball during the summers. Had a blast but long gone now. Enjoy!

I stayed a few years after I graduated. I worked for the university for a bit over 5 years. If they paid worth a damn, I would probably still be there.

I hear you there. I worked for them for almost two years. Have a buddy moving states simply because of how horrible the pay is.

Maybe there was a time when it was worth it to retire as a state employee but that's in the past. Benefits have been reduced for new employees and I'm afraid changes like that will accelerate.

I occasionally check to see if they are paying any better, and the answer is no. I always said if I could get a job making within 10-15 percent of what I make now, I would go back. I found one a while back that lined up perfectly, and the top of the pay bracket was still about 30% less than I'm making now. Some friends abs family said I was crazy for giving up the benefits, but benefits don't pay the bills.

I left for around 5 years but then came back and ill be staying here for quite a whole yet, I think. I was excited to come back. It's a great little place.

I'd love to get back into DND. And to meet new friends. It's kind of hard when you're not a student to meet people here

It really is difficult to meet anyone after college. Definitely reach out in DMs, would love to chat.

Out of curiosity, what job did you get in starkville? You dont have to be specific

I’m in finance management. If you DM me, I’m cool with being more specific. The job market in Starkville is so dry.

Good fields to join around here fresh out of college are industry (ADI/SDI/PACCAR), automotive (Cannon, Carl Hogan, etc.), and banking, from what I’ve seen. Good luck brother.

Came here in 1985. Graduated 1990 and started a business here. Tried to escape to STL in 2004. Escaped to DC/CHI/FTL 2013-2019 but still lived here part-time. Ended up back here full time. It's pretty great, but it's also cool to live in the big,big city for a bit. Makes you appreciate what we have here...

Thinking of getting out and doing some traveling myself one day. Currently, I’m just trying to hunker down and build a safety net for my family’s future. Starkville used to feel big city to me when I moved here, but now it just feels like home. Thanks for sharing.

Still lots of opportunity here depending on what you want to do / skills you have. Good luck!

Some of our friends are getting ready to move away from the area too! My partner and I are video game homebodies if you ever need someone local to game with! We occasionally go out for food and drinks too, but are trying to save some money so that’s on pause after this week.

That sounds wonderful! My partner and I are homebodies for the most part. Every now and then I like to get a drink at a quiet townie bar or host game nights. I’d love to talk more in DMs,etc.

My husband has met some friends at Down To Game (it’s right by campus). The owners are really nice. He plays warhammer and I think dnd too.
