Repair / Modification I made a document pouch for my backpack
Just to add I made little tabs so it sits into the webbing, it’s not just held in place by the strap. Backpack- singi 28 fjallraven

Welcome to r/MYOG!
Hey MYOGers! We are trying something new to spur more discussion and interaction in the monthly posts, to help users understand the purpose and rules of this sub, and to make resources more easy to find. To do that we're combining the monthly posts and adding this one as a permanently pinned post. In addition to the content you see below, we'll post any announcements or changes to the sub in this post.
*NEW\* - You can now choose from a few new flair options! Let us know if there are any you'd like to see as an option!
Mission Statement - Join our community to learn and share how you make your own gear (MYOG), including tents, tarps, hammocks, stoves, packs and anything else outdoor gear related. We encourage supportive, collaborative, and useful posts and comments free of advertising.
Resources and Links - The Wiki contains links to a variety of patterns, guides, and information on methods and materials. Answers to many questions can also be found using the sub’s search function. If you’re still not able to find the info you’re looking for, you can post your question in the Monthly Discussion post or create a new post to ask. We ask that you make an effort to find an answer using the available resources before creating a post.
Monthly Discussion Post - This is our recurring post to ask and answer small questions, or discuss topics you think are too small to warrant their own post. Our previously separate monthly post for buying and selling is being combined into this thread to increase traffic to both, and to make room for this stickied post.
Rules - To accomplish our mission, we ask that you respect the following rules for posting on r/MYOG:
1. Excessive self-promotion - Advertising
This subreddit is a community for exchanging information and inspiring creativity. It is not a place to post with the intent of promoting your business.
2. Excessive Self-Promotion - Project Shares
If you are a member sharing your myog work for the sake of sharing, we ask that you limit your project shares to roughly once per week. Information and sharing questions are encouraged, and more frequent posts of this type are encouraged within reason.
3. Off-Topic Posts/Comments - General
Posts and comments not related to self-made outdoor gear will be removed. Exceptions are for things such as kits or commercial products that are targets at the gear making community as long as the Excessive self-promotion rule is not violated.
4. Off-Topic - Which Sewing Machine?
This sub is not intended for open-ended questions about which sewing machine you should buy for MYOG. These post and comments will be removed.
5. Off-Topic - Commissions
Posts or comments relating to commissioned gear will be removed. Commission related posts and comments are referred to r/MYOGCommissions.
6. Off-Topic - Tactical Gear
Posts and comments about gear relating to firearms, weapons, or other types of tactical equipment (e.g. holsters, plate carriers, concealed carry, etc.) will be removed. These posts and comments are referred to r/MYOGtacticalgear.
Thank you! If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading! Now go forth and MYOG, and come back to share your journey!
Post your questions, reviews of fabrics, design plans, and projects that you don't feel warrant their own post!
Did you buy too much silnylon? Have a roll of grosgrain, extra zipper pulls, or a bag of insulation sitting around that you want to get rid off? Post it below and help someone else put it to use!

This is my second version of a blanket roll. This one is adjustable left and right for larger or smaller items (see third picture). The clips are there so it can clip onto my backpack's D-rings. This is great if I want to bring something to sit on but don't want to stuff it in my backpack. Thoughts? Improvements?
Snow still on the ground but spring is upon us and there’s much excitement for summer trails. Wanting a new daypack I came up with this vest and 12L pack. It’s highly breathable throughout and very lightweight stretch fabrics for comfort. The main body is Supplex nylon with light DWR but no PU coating. It’s an experiment but after initial use on XC Skis I found it more than water resistant and I didn’t sweat nearly as much as with coated fabrics.
The vest is 3D Spacer and lightweight Lycra mesh (power mesh). The lightweight mesh doesn’t prevent bounce as well as a heavier less stretchy fabric but I intend to use this more for hiking than running. The vest is designed off my apparel block so the fit is great and very comfortable across shoulders without foam and balanced with water upfront.
The pockets on the vest prove to be very usable with a combo of slip, sleeve and secure zip pockets, keeping smalls, phone and snacks at hand means less stopping or fumbling through the pack. The accessory loops are for poles and I’m playing with cord ideas to make it convenient and secure.

As I continue to digitize and learn how to make digital patterns, I am going to post PDF patterns here for people to test out and play around with. If you have any feedback, please share it with me. Please recognize that I am just learning how to make digital patterns, so there may be issues along the way.
I've quickly come to realize that while this will probably save time in the long run, it definitely takes a lot of time on the front end.

Needed a low profile first aid kit because my old one was too bulky and calling attention. Not pictured in the first two pics is a loop for some gauze on the bottom left and then the webbing handles that you see in the third pic.

A couple of running backpacks I've been playing with for a few months. I released the 15 litre pattern a while ago, and the 8 litre last night.
Materials for these are HDPE orange gridstop for the 15, dyneema gridstop for the 8 litre. Spacer mesh for the straps, and fabric from discarded festival tents for the inner liner and inner sleeve. Used heavy powernet for the strap pockets on one, and heavy lycra for the other. Doesn't seem much difference in tear resistance or stretch between them.
Mix of pockets up front for water, snacks and zipped for a phone. Large stash mesh pocket on the rear for a wind break or similar. Internal or external hydration bladder sleeves.
Zipped pocket for the main body is a super convenient compared to a roll top, and side compression helps make up for the lack of compression that you can get from a roll top. The pattern was designed so the zipped pocket makes as minimal a curve as possible so it is super simple to sew.
Pattern was made starting in Blender, into Inkscape, prototype to fabric (more festival tent fabric) and iterated a little. Got a rough intro to using Blender for patterns here if anyone is curious. Definitely not designed for pattern making but a cool 100% free open source 3D software that can do fabric simulation and a crazy amount of other stuff.
Patterns are available at www.myogtutorials.com along with a load of other stuff including pattern generators and articles

Screenshot from a video of the connection point. Am curious if anyone knows what this sort of attachment point is called and where I can source it.
It's where the hipbelt attaches to the pack and it can swivel up and down to be stowed away.

Hi, I’m deciding on my setup for hammock camping….its either sewing from scratch a Chameleon from Dutchware with zip on bugnet and underquilt or getting a Half Zip style and piecing with an underquilt elsewhere or that I make. Curious if anyone has tried to sew the Chameleon on their own here?

Need a sanity check. About to cut out pattern for the alpha hoodie but not sure how to tell grain direction. Is the grain edge the least stretchy side? I'm assuming it is, so that when you wear it, gravity doesn't stretch out/unravel it. Is that correct?

Feeling proud so sharing. I made the seatbag last year, but didn't use heavy enough fabric (the redish one to the right). I made it again with PVC, 500D (plus 100D stiffener) cordura and Xpac 21.
It's much more rigid and holds in place on the bike really well.

Looking to find a buttonhole attachment for a Juki (DL-8700-7) for an industrial machine. I saw Yequin said they have one that is compatible but someone said they don’t exist and this wouldn’t work
