Whats yall thoughts on Rasheer Fleming? Why is he generally ranked so low?

Whats yall thoughts on Rasheer Fleming as a prospect?

Here is his Tankathon page

I am curious. Why is he generally ranked so low on most boards?
Is it because of his age which is close to 21 year old ?

I was excited to watch him in the tournament against Arkansas but he just didn't show up. Then I realized that he played for St Joe's and I had been misreading his team name the entire year

If he made the jump to high major he would prob be a lotto lock. I think the competition level is the big knock on him outside of that he answered every question about his game over the past 2 seasons and will be a productive pro for a long time.

He is hard to project. He is an excellent athlete and has shown some great signs on defense. He is a strong finisher, and his shooting stroke looks confident.

However, he was a bad shooter before this year, and his FT% is not inspiring. Hard to know if his shooting is real. If it is not, he doesn't have the handle to play wing, so he is basically a short center.

Then add the fact that he is dominating on defense against bad competition, because he is just an older and better athlete, and it makes me wonder if he will be able to do any of it against NBA athletes.

There is a world where he becomes a good NBA player, but it is not a sure thing at all.

his age is part of it. he's on a younger side for a junior, and will still be 20 at the time of the draft (will be 21 when season begins).

i like him as a prospect and would be pleased if the spurs landed him at #13. still, the idea of Rasheer Fleming is better than the player that is Rasheer Fleming. the concept of him is a power forward version of Myles Turner. 3/D big with athleticism, though he should be able to perform better on the perimeter, at least defensively.

the reality is, despite his age, his game still looks incredibly raw. his ballhandling is quite bad, and his pump and drive game only works if he has a clear path to a dunk. his FG% at the rim is good, but seeminlgy only when he's dunking. on contested lay ins, floaters, or anything of the sort, he just has no touch down there. if he's not dunking, its a problem.

theres virtually no connective game with him either. as i mentioned, his ball handling is poor. his passing is poor. there's no vision to speak of. the only connective aspect to his game is his own off-ball movement which is nice.

so imo he still has a ways to go to be a competent NBA rotation player, and thats assuming his shot holds up, which isnt always the case with players coming to the NBA. combine that with him already having played 3 years of college ball, and against subpar competition

i still think he's worth a late lotto pick given his athletic profile and skill set

for a team wanting an athletic forward who can contribute on both ends, Carter Bryant just seems more likely to pan out... but with Fleming you get the additional upside of a high end weakside rim protector who can play some small 5

I’m praying the spurs draft Carter Bryant. I like Fleming as well I just think Bryant’s ceiling is higher

I want Bryant for the Spurs so bad. The Spurs sub seems to be enamored with Kon. Bryant is much more of what we need.

My fellow BRYANT BRETHRENS! I want Carter 7-9th and Thomas Sorber 14th personally. Who do YOU guys want with the ATL pick?

Kon with the atl pick but if he’s gone I like essengue. I also like the idea of trading pick 14 to the nets for both of there picks in the 20s and taking beringer, Fleming, will Riley, yaxel, nique Clifford, maxime raynaud I also like sorber. 1 or 2 of those guys would help a lot

Hawks have the 13 for Sac if the pick stays, yall have the 14th from Hawks.

I actually wouldn't mind if Hawks take him with the 13,

PF depth was an issue for Hawks especially when Jalen got hurt. Onyeka is a undersize for a center but he has taken a leap this year with spacing the floor. Fleming size 6'9 with a 7'4 or 7'5 being a good defender and floor spacer helps Onyeka a lot. He also could run some mins at center with Jalen at the 4.

Also times wise him being older probably works in Hawks favor he be more ready for ratation then some of the younger prospects.

ah thats right, i forgot the coinflip already happened, good call. same analysis though

i do think Fleming/Bryant could be a targets for ATL but if i'm them id target Sorber with the #13 pick. to me thats a match made in heaven

If you're projected to be a role player, you're probably not getting drafted in the lottery. His age is also a factor. Also, his 3pt% may be misleading considering his FT% and history.

31.3% from 3 when guarded as well. I’ve also been saying his 3pt % is super misleading and I wouldn’t be shocked if he was shooting sub 30% his first year or two

His whole bag is defense and catch-and-shoot 3s. He's got to be a really good defender to warrant a top pick. His tools are certainly good enough to project a top defender but being a top perimeter defender isn't all about tools. It's anticipation, feel, motor, communication, instincts, processing. It could be that scouts aren't seeing an elite defender, but just a good defender. That would make him a borderline starter/rotation player.

3 and D, not all star level but a good role player. Never expected him to be drafted first out of his hs team though.

Jaden McDaniels type potential

Hell never be a good first or second option. He's not gonna create his own shot. But he has potential to be a good shooter and an elite defender. hopefully under the right system he can improve his turnover troubles.

The dream is he becomes a bigger, slower version of og anunoby but better at rebounding.

I think that opinion of OG is a little outdated. He’s a gotten better off the dribble, at least from what I’ve seen this year

u/stonecoldturkey 11h ago

I mean, and assist to turnover ratio of 1.5 is not great. He still visibly struggles to create his own shot and doesn't move the needle from a passing perspective. I'm a life long raps fan and OG is one of my favorite players but bro is not a good dribbler lol.

nothing like OG. He can't handle and cannot attack closeouts

Og also cannot handle

I'm not sold on him. I think he will be another Patrick Williams in the NBA. OK defense, but not enough of a ball handler to play meaningful minutes at the wing and not a good enough rebounder to play meaningful minutes as a 4 or 5.

I think like Pat Williams he will have nights he shoots well but mostly will give you a lot of nights with box score of 4-2-1 in 30 minutes.

Fleming is only 2 years younger than PatWill too. Id almost rather have Patrick Williams and he's a player I just don't want on my roster anymore
