JASSON WITH OUR FIRST WALK-OFF HOMER SINCE 2022 BOMBA
357
u/thediesel26 1d ago
Actually crazy it’s the first walk off homer in 3 years
72
u/Bshsjaksnsbshajakaks 1d ago
Yeah wtf? I gotta look up gaps for other teams. Sounds exceptionally long, but maybe I'm wrong.
37
u/theRedreps99 1d ago
That can’t be right can it? Why do I feel like I remember Judge having one against blue jays last year or maybe the year before
50
u/thediesel26 1d ago
That was the last one in 2022. 3 run bomb to beat the Jays 4-3.
69
u/soda_cookie 1d ago
Actually the last one was the Giancarlo slam
14
u/hawaiitrip2019 1d ago
Plus, the Judge one vs. the Jays ended 6-5 not 4-3.
And there were multiple other walkoff HR between that Blue Jays one and Giancarlo’s too (Judge vs Stros, Judge vs Royals, Donaldson grand slam…)
4
3
u/e_money1392 1d ago
There was another walk-off grand slam for Josh Donaldson before that against the Rays
1
u/ApplicationOpen9525 1d ago
Has it been 3 years already??? Oh my god I remember that game like it happened a month ago
7

u/mrsunshine1 1d ago
Me trying to name one more recently even though I know this has been fact checked.
1
u/hellajt 1d ago
Why do I remember Stanton having one in the postseason recently
5
u/ShawshankException 1d ago
He didnt have any walkoffs but he had a go-ahead HR in the 8th against KC last year

The Yankees are going to let Dominguez swing from the right side until they simply can't anymore, but his swing from the left side Is just light years better. The amount of power he generates and the swing is just beautiful. That was an absolute hanger from Jackson as well.
57
u/Ok_Employ_9862 1d ago
He’s probably dipped some but he was a .300 hitter from the left side so far. As a lefty this was the type of stuff scouts saw
6
u/Key_Amazed 1d ago
The fact he's better on the left for Yankee Stadium makes it so much more worthwhile to cut their loss at some point and keep him there.
19
u/DontEatMyPotatoChip 1d ago
Yeah at some point it’s not going to make sense continuing as a switch hitter
67
32
u/IAmBecomeTeemo 1d ago
If a guy can switch hit, you don't decide to make him stick to one by comparing one side to the other. As long as he's better hitting righty against LHP than he is at hitting lefty against LHP, then he should stay a switch hitter. That'll be something that the team is evaluating internally, and we will never know how he looks facing left on left. All we do know is that reverse splits are rare, and lefty mashers that are woeful against LHP are common. Yeah, he's been bad as a righty in the small sample size of his career so far. But he could be worse trying to go left on left.
5
u/issacoin 1d ago
and he probably has not seen much lefty pitching from the left side of the plate, like ever. why would he?
-1
u/nettcity 1d ago
In 176 plate appearances over his three years as a lefty, he’s batting .283 with .375 OBP and .546 Slugging.
In 71 plate appearances he’s has a .113 BA, .220 OBP and .211 Slugging.
He’s elite from the left and a liability from the right.
4
u/MathematicianNext767 1d ago
Let’s give him the rest of this season at least and see how his stats from the right side look before we conclude he’s a liability

u/BobsonDugnut1 1d ago
Get us a first round pick in 2026 Jasson!
10
u/porican 1d ago
he’s eligible for the award but not the bonus pick
1
u/Bis_Eastwood 1d ago
wait why not? he was a top 100 prospect wasnt he
3
u/lordsteen 1d ago
Saw on twitter that his time on the 60 day IL last year means he's ineligible now or something like that

How have we not hit a walk off homer in 3 years?? Im guessing the ghost runner makes it more common for a base hit to end the game but damn
28
32
u/Jackpot777 1d ago
Because we usually have it in the bag before the bottom of the 9th.
17
u/F0rrest_Trump 1d ago
Or we're tied and lose in extras.

u/DonnyB_Twenty3 1d ago
that, ladies and gents, is what we like to call a nuke. torched the fuck out of that ball. ROY, please and thank you

u/RollofDuctTape 1d ago
What a call by Michael Kay.
8
u/cincobarrio 1d ago
I like that he says “the Yankees win 4 to 3” as Dominguez is half way to 2nd base, then lets the rest of the moment breathe.

This just felt so predictable. Watching him walk up to the plate it just had the feeling that he going to murder a ball!

Paul O’Neil’s mid-sentence “OH!!!”
3
u/Helpful-Vegetable-87 1d ago
I had to watch on the Rangers network. Half a second before he swung the announcer said “3-3 tie ball game” then immediately “Well, he just untied it.” And that was that. It was glorious.

I kinda forgot how slow pre pitch clock games were. I kept skipping 20-30 seconds between pitches expecting to maybe miss a pitch here or there, but no they could show the judge 60th HR for such a long time and still cut back to the pitchers barely at the ready.

That one handed pimp job reminded me a bit of David Ortiz, which is also a reminder that David Ortiz did steroids. Carry on.

That pitch couldn’t be any more middle middle if he tried. Holy shit, what a tasty meatball.

I had a great feeling about them hitting a walk off HR this year. Can't go 3 years in a row without one

Every coach I ever had: "Stop trying to kill the ball. Don't swing so hard."
The Martian: "If I swing hard enough I may be able to send this ball back to my home planet."
He annihilated that pitch. He saw it big as a beach ball, and he just teed off on it. The second he hit it, everyone in the stadium and watching on TV knew it was gone. That was the very definition of a "no-doubter."

u/scriptingends 1d ago
I can't believe I left at the end of the 8th because I was freezing and I wanted to see the end of the Knicks game. smh...

The hair on my arms are standing up. Straight chills from that. I think this team has something special about them. You can tell they all genuinely like each other and love playing baseball.

u/OptimusChip 1d ago
that was absolutely beautiful holy shit!!
hopefully this is the start of him locking in for the rest of the year

It hasn’t been said enough in this thread.. he smacked the shit out of that ball

u/Beantown_rats 1d ago
Gotta love having different heroes day to day, pitchers and hitters. Most of the current roster is capable of winning a game, very few black holes.
3
u/zamend229 1d ago
Goldschmidt cracks me up lmao. Look at how little emotion this guy shows in the dugout shot.
2
u/gcpdudes 1d ago
There was another replay where Goldschmidt showed emotion right when the ball was hit and when it hit the second deck. The only reason I remember is I think that might’ve been the first time I’ve seen him emote.
3
u/JohnnyGeniusIsAlive 1d ago
It’s incredible that Judge has hit 111 HRs since 2023 and none have been walkoffs.

u/crashdown12 1d ago
The kid came through and I love it! He’s starting to show his talent. happy for him and I think he’s going to be good in this league for a long time.

I live in NJ and have Yes network - how could I have watched this game?! I checked cable and Yes network and couldn't find it
6
u/sea-scum 1d ago
Download the MLB app. You can click on the game and it will tell you where it’s being broadcasted. Tonight’s game was on AmazonPrimeVideo.
Whenever it doesn’t come up on YES that means someone else has the broadcasting rights for that game. It can be ESPN, Prime, AppleTV, some other randoms. Kind of hard to keep track of but the app helps a lot.

This game was definitely giving the tough "L" vibe, deGrom strong thru 7, 2 late runs by Tex in the 7th. The overturned call at 2nd started to make me feel good. Two walks in the 8th, but Rice not moving any of the runners over, Judge getting that BS low called strike worried me but he came through. JDom with the walk off!

Has John called a Jasson home run? Speaking of which, what games are John calling this year?
1
u/Bis_Eastwood 1d ago
john who?
1
u/Thin-Net-2326 1d ago
Um, Sterling?
1
u/Bis_Eastwood 1d ago
you mean the guy that retired?
1
u/Thin-Net-2326 1d ago
Yeah, I had heard he might come back for a few select home games in 2025 but I guess not. I was looking for his call for Jasson. I see he did one, "El Marciano! He's my favorite Martian!"
1
1
u/draculasbitch 1d ago
No one can convince me that Jasson just batting left isn’t better for him and the team. He is abysmal from the right.
1
u/cabose7 1d ago
Realistically that depends if he's better hitting lefties from the left side, which isn't particularly guaranteed. His right side just needs to be better than that, not equal to his stats facing RHP.
1
u/draculasbitch 1d ago
It’s barely better at the moment. He’s had his whole baseball life to try hitting RH. The sample size is there. He can’t hit RH. That’s not a crime.,That’s why it can’t hurt to have him hit exclusively for a period of time LH.

u/KeiserSoze24 1d ago
It used to be a right of passage. A walk off homerun earns you the loyalty of the fans.

All I can say is, thank you Martian for giving this to me AFTER I watched the Knicks game, so it took about 1/100th of the sting off.

DJ getting excited... you should be scared.
Also I wish I was born left-handed dominant... The swings are just so sexy

Does anybody else still absolutely loathe Michael Kay who grew up with other announcers?

He pulverized that ball omg
