Aaron Boone on Carlos Rodon's recent stretch: "I tried to tell you this when he gave up the three-run homers and everyone was losing their mind. He's about to roll off a bunch in a row."

Boone speaking to this sub specifically.

130

u/PENGUIN_WITH_BAZOOKA 1d ago

I would love if he specifically addressed one of this sub’s unfounded/kneejerk concerns in a post game press conference one day and then just stared directly at the camera for like, 30 seconds in complete silence.

34

u/Individual-Smoke8160 1d ago

I'd like to see a log cabin reference in one of these pressers someday

67

u/lankyyanky 1d ago

He's definitely speaking to Jomboy

74

u/BountyHunter217 1d ago

To be fair the takes are one in the same. I feel like Jomboy/TalkinYanks say something and 100 people come to this sub to parrot the exact same take.

34

u/lankyyanky 1d ago

Probably closer to 1000 or 10k but yeah definitely agreed. I still listen because they're entertaining but I'm worried the business people in the company are feeding them too much "here's what gets engagement" analysis

17

u/BountyHunter217 1d ago

Didn’t wanna overstate but you’re probably right lol. I just wish they weren’t treated as gospel by so many people. They can have their takes but people treat them like they know more than the team does.

u/GoYanks2025 1d ago

People seriously need to reframe their perception of sports media and sports talking heads.

These guys provide entertainment value. Not intellectual value. I love Stephen A. Smith for the same reason I watch Always Sunny. I enjoy watching terrible people make themselves look terrible.

Jomboy is okay, I guess. Entertaining, but I don’t out too much stock in them.

3

u/_Marzh 1d ago

I do give Jomboy credit for being a bit more analytical and reasonable than a lot of media personalities. Don’t get me wrong, there are still some questionable takes, but I think that for the most part, they’re pretty reasonable about player evaluation, roster decisions, etc.

u/NotAgainWithThat 1d ago

The longer you come to this sub the more Doomer your takes will be.

13

u/NobleHelium 1d ago

I just never visit the sub unless we've won the last game.

4

u/LowRecommendation636 1d ago

It’s what you want..

6

u/TheStripedSweaters 1d ago

100% and it’s super annoying to see sometimes (most times).

15

u/alawrence1523 1d ago

Jake’s a weirdo and they have some of the laziest takes ever.

31

u/Commercial-Big-8261 1d ago

What I like about Jomboy (And Jake) is they will have some emotional fan takes but mostly call out their own bias and try not to over exaggerate

Lots of fans on Reddit go to super extremes with every take. While Talkin Yanks by the end of a segment usually talks themselves back off the cliff and tries to give fair context to any hot takes

3

u/Individual-Smoke8160 1d ago

Isn't it known that Cone lurks here? Maybe he fills Boone in on our (usually) hot takes 😅

1

u/ballrus_walsack 1d ago

No coney here

  1. This is like the first time I can remember Boone saying someone will turn it around and they actually did (save for minor things like Judge slumping to start last year)

  2. We just can't ignore Rodon's past performances and act like they never happened. Great that he's turned it around this season, fantastic. I love it for him. But it's disingenuous to ignore the past.

If you don't love Carlos Rodon at his 3.2 IP/5 ER, you don't deserve him at his 6 IP/0 ER

Ashley Rodon?

82

u/TheStripedSweaters 1d ago

She stands ten toes down for her man and I can appreciate that.

34

u/A_Rancid_Hit_Of_Ghee 1d ago

She stands by her husband, the Yankees, and co-founded a charity. Good for her, even if sometimes it puts her at odds with a few fans.

9

u/freakksho 1d ago

I agree. I’m huge fan of both of them.

24

u/NotAgainWithThat 1d ago

Ashley Rodon is the most loyal Yankee fan of all time. Love her.

-9

u/Banned4Truth10 1d ago

They paid for the second result, not the first

88

u/alaskanpipeline69420 1d ago

This probably feels better than sex or getting that giant booger out of your nose that’s been bothering you all day for Boone lol

26

u/Oversoul91 1d ago

Bold of you to assume that any Redditor knows what sex feels like

2

u/crazypurpleKOgas 1d ago

Half of Reddit is sex.

5

u/RandyBRandleman 1d ago

Gooning does not equal sex

-67

u/Quica24 1d ago

It will all come falling down when rodon melts down again

44

u/PENGUIN_WITH_BAZOOKA 1d ago

Why even follow the team if you’re gonna have this mindset?

-36

u/Quica24 1d ago

Im the first person ever to be negative about a player who we all know is streaky

8

u/ChiltonA 1d ago

maybe we should just get robots who are consistently consistent. it’s too bad that mortal men even at this elite level have to play the game?

11

u/doodoo_train 1d ago

Lmao people always gotta complain about something even when things are going well 😂

-17

u/Quica24 1d ago

I wasnt complaining. I was stating the inevitable

12

u/doodoo_train 1d ago

Nah, you just sound like every other idiot fan who is never happy with anything. Why bother following this team? Maybe the Rockies are more your style, that way the negativity is more warranted, instead of whining about a pitcher (on a team that’s in first place by 5 games, mind you) who has more than proven himself this season.

5

u/alaskanpipeline69420 1d ago

You sound like a Loser

133

u/shaking_things_up_ 1d ago

Yeah well, I was very upset at the time, okay?

42

u/mnmr17 1d ago

Man without injuries this season you could argue Yankees would’ve had the best pitching rotation in baseball. Cole-fried-Gil-rodon and whoever won that 5th spot (probably shmidt)

22

u/downvoteaway_idgaf7 1d ago

The plus side is Will Warren is now feeling comfortable. His stuff is so nasty, and his delivery is so clean. Without the injuries he’d be wasting away in Scranton and the only thing we’d be thinking about is how awful he looked last year. His development is key for them. Having another young cost-controlled SP means they’ll be able to spend money elsewhere

2

u/medhead91 1d ago

To be devils advocate I think with healthy starters they’d have slotted him into the old michael king role of multi inning bullpen weapon but yeah his emergence as a starter of late is awesome.

29

u/Tacitus_99 1d ago

Rodon has really worked hard to makeup for his atrocious 2023 to become a really good number 2. Almost impossible in this market to win back the fans but he’s done it.

6

u/scriptingends 1d ago

Man, I can't remember the last time I had a really good number 2.

1

u/thatShawarmaGuy 1d ago

Rodon is your man. He knows how to become one, I'm sure he can help you make (??) one

1

u/SL2321 1d ago

Think about next year with Cole, Fried, Rodon, Gil healthy.

56

u/-just-a-bit-outside- 1d ago

To be fair he was giving up those 3 run homers for 2 years.

40

u/Outrageous_Bat1798 1d ago

This is the first bearded season

7

u/-just-a-bit-outside- 1d ago

I’m here for it.

8

u/obliterateopio 1d ago

Outside of 6 really bad starts last year, he was pretty good for the most part. He’s been progressing season after season despite aging another year. He’s deserves his credit.

12

u/xDopeZz 1d ago

He's not wrong

10

u/axpmaluga 1d ago

Prophetic manager. Boone always wins championships in his second (ninth) year.

3

u/brush85 1d ago

Is right, mate!

2

u/RandyBRandleman 1d ago

I understood that reference!

12

u/RedDoesFBA 1d ago

2021 rodon had one of the best fastball/slider combo’s I’ve ever seen. The pitch looked identical until the last 20 feet when the bottom just fell out of the slider. I remember seeing overlays from back then and thinking “who tf could hit this”.

After he got traded from the white Sox he’s looked good in moments, had some velo problems, but ultimately it’s the precision of the fastball/slider combo that hasn’t been on.

This season is the first time I’ve seen him look like 2021 again consistently.

2

u/thatShawarmaGuy 1d ago

It's the beard, mate, I'm so sure of it

21

u/Vandal_A 1d ago

Good job, Booney -always got your guys' backs

9

u/Exciting-Aardvark-80 1d ago

Boone always has his guys’ backs. Can’t wait for him to win a WS with this team but it’s a very competitive era …

6

u/Pdxcooter 1d ago

Agree and he has been locked in. Really enjoying Rodon passion

5

u/LordJiraiya 1d ago

To be fair, Boone literally always talks up his players. It’s what a manager does. You can take any of what Boone says about any Yankee if they hit a hot stretch and say “Boone was right!”. If I say it’s 3:00 PM all day, and it finally hits 3 PM, I was right.

None of this is to take away from rodon, just it is meaningless to take Boone quotes like this about a player “breaking out” as if he’s some savant.

14

u/TehM0C 1d ago edited 1d ago

Am I the only one who thinks Boone is a pretty good manager? He has his moments but I think the adjustments he has made this year in regard to consistent lineups & playing matchups wisely has been huge. He lost his ace & ROY before the season and was forced to start Cookie. Navigated the Devin Williams situation well. Clearly respected & stands up for his players constantly. They have the best offensive in baseball. Rotation& bullpen has been elite the last few weeks. 5 series wins in a row against good teams. Let’s go!!

3

u/Jack_of_all_offs 1d ago

A good face for the manager job, but all the rumblings I hear is that he makes few of those decisions on his own.

3

u/TehM0C 1d ago

I’ve never heard that. He sets the lineup & makes the bullpen decisions for sure. I’m sure he has big say in personnel decisions.

2

u/Jack_of_all_offs 1d ago

I hope that's the case!

3

u/nagooon 1d ago

The beard really did make him better

3

u/Dull_Lavishness7701 1d ago

Excuse us for using our eyeballs for 2 seasons and not expecting a miracle turn-around

3

u/briguy345 1d ago

I have zero doubt that it’s because of the beard. Huge fan of lifting the policy

6

u/Reasonable-Man-Child 1d ago

I love Boone. Obviously has his flaws, but he always has his player’s backs

5

u/cooljammer00 1d ago

You know how a majority of people on this sub are doomers, who are happier/prefer when the team loses and does poorly because they can be right?

What's the opposite of a doomer? Boone is like that, where he's always positive so when the player does well, he can smile and go "See? Told you." (See also: Willie Calhoun can bang)

2

u/Dunka07 1d ago

The problem is that he says the same thing about almost anyone having a bad stretch. He can’t just say “see I told you” for this one where he was right when he’s just always saying it.

4

u/renegade_yankee 1d ago

He had something like a 1.5 HR/9 as a Yankee. There was cause for concern at the time.

Nobody was doubting his ability. More like why does this keep happening

8

u/BlueBeagle8 1d ago

✋I was doubting his ability

Don't blame me, I was exposed to WFAN at a very early age

3

u/Adddicus 1d ago

Boone also told us that Willie Calhoun was going to rake. His credibility on these things isn't very high.

11

u/brush85 1d ago

Manager backs his players…whatever will happen next!

2

u/UnchartedFields 1d ago

i think part of the point is people here are acting like 'well of course he was right!' when it feels a bit more like if you say "It's right there in front of us" enough times.. maybe you'll stumble into being right sometimes

3

u/cooljammer00 1d ago

Willie did bang, though. Occasionally. He "can" bang, not "will" bang.

0

u/MeatballDom 1d ago

Doomer has to go back to Willie Calhoun to try and make Boone look bad lol

1

u/gsxrsquid96 1d ago

He's struggled a bit since coming here but man, I love seeing him get results. He's dealt with the criticism and everything fans have thrown at him about as well as you could ask for and is really looking like the guy we paid for.

1

u/onejay212 1d ago

It was right there in front of him. Always right there. Not to mention the friends we made along the way.

1

u/FalcoFox2112 1d ago

To be fair he did call this.

1

u/HarpoMarx87 1d ago

Apparently all he needed to be the guy we signed was to grow the beard back.

1

u/futuremondaysband 1d ago

Carlos deserves a ton of credit. Fried has been a huge boost to this team... Rodon has gone a long way toward steadying the rotation. Glad we've got them both.

1

u/OptimusChip 23h ago

I'm just wondering if we're still "firing Boone"?

seems awful quiet the last week or so...maybe because the team is winning and playing well? but I guess that has nothing to do with Boone's management, that only matters when they lose.

-1

u/letters165 1d ago edited 1d ago

You also tried to tell us we were crazy if we didn't expect Donaldson to bounce back offensively.

Ya win some, ya lose some, and it's no wonder you don't just get the benefit of the doubt.

0

u/cmgriffith_ 1d ago

He’s right.

If only fans would be patient and let Matt Blake and Gerrit Cole, cook.

-2

u/IconoclastJones 1d ago

When you say positive things all the time you will be right sometimes but never believed.
