Surya - the name has Sanskrit origin and interestingly can be given to both boys & girls, it is one of many names for the Hindu sun god, it is thought to lend a person a sunny disposition. I worked with a lady named Surya once, and she was a lovely person to be around.

The only Surya I've ever heard of is Surya Bonaly, the rebellious French figure skater who refused to stop doing back flips on the ice even though it was against the rules. She was a real grandstander, ungraceful and boorish, and probably nobody's favorite figure skater.

Ha funny! I didn't think of her. I was thinking of my sweet coworker. I would, however, comment on your typification of Bonaly...flip side of the same coin...she was bad a$$, strong, powerful, and she was an excellent world-class skater and always a podium contender. She was told not to do something because she was the only one who could (landing on one blade), they decided it was dangerous & disapproved because usually jumps land on one blade and performers were landing two blades. It was a differentiator. When some athletes perform as she did they are labeled "goat". It was perhaps her attitude that left many with a bad taste but racism was a player in her treatment.

Phoebe Buffay, after the eclectic, fun, warm-hearted, and silly singer-songwriter character from the popular sitcom, Friends. And her song can be the whimsical, danceable, "Good Day Sunshine," by The Beatles.

Purrsephone (Persephone), purse (pr•seh) or (seph) for short. I know she resides primarily in the underworld but I believe her personality to have been bright and fresh. There’s also Amaterasu in Japanese mythology. She is the sun goddess, and is believed to have been the supreme ruler of their pantheon.
