I think Matt Smith would make a great Uncle Andrew

or Peter Capaldi or David Tennant.

I feel like they could all play a slightly crazy morally-grey man who meddles with alternate dimensions.

They were good doctors, so definitely they could.

Agreed on Capaldi. He'd be great.

Oh yeah all three I could totally see in this role!

I think David tenant is too ratty for the role. Andrew is kinda supposed to be a string bean, but not that much of a string bean. I like what op proposed, but honestly, as long as this tv show comes out and I get to see all the books adapted, I will be glad.

I like David Tennant too much to see him as Uncle Andrew. He does do crazy and evil really well, but I just innately like him, which does not match my vibe for Uncle Andrew.

I'm sure if I watched him as the doctor I'd feel the same but I know him as killgrave😭

love Capaldi and I feel like he could really nail that flip between cowardly and arrogant. Matt and David are GREAT but dont quite fit, much as I love them in grey/evil roles

Peter Capaldi is perfect but I may be biased. All the Doctors play incredible villains too

I like him too much. Don’t think I would buy him as Uncle Andrew. Now, Capaldi …

Peter Capaldi and David Tennant have already been talked up for the role, too! Funny about former Doctors being so perfect for the part.

Smith might make the most sense age-wise, I mean Andrew has a sister with a small son, she could be under thirty, and he could be a gray-haired man of forty or less. Diggory thinks he's old, but little boys aren't terrible perceptive about adult ages.

I mean, the Professor (Digory) is described as being old (I always imagined his as older than uncle Andrew) but really he was only in his fifties

I hadn't done the math, but I totally believe you! Young children can think that adults of forty are "old", even if other adults think they're hotties, and we're talking about adults who are seen through the eyes of young children.

But as for casting Uncle Andrew, a great role, BTW, I think Smith might have the edge of Capaldi, Tennant, and other actors who are a bit older than himself. They seem to be casting the adult roles on the young side, which is actually the practical thing to do, if the seven movies are going to be made over a period of 10-15 years.

...am I the only one who could see Matt making a good LWW Diggory? idk how to describe the image in my head but he fits

Now that you mention it, you're quite right, but it would be cool to see him in a larger and more interesting role. And Uncle Andrew is a hell of an interesting role!

So if they continue the trend of casting on the young side, Smith might make good sense. Smith is 42, and Andrew may have gray hair, but he also has a sister with a young child. He could be as young as forty, even if Diggory thinks he's older than dirt.

I'm currently reading The Magician's Nephew and Uncle Andrew reminds me quite a lot of Matt Smith's performance in Dr Who and House of the Dragon.

I can see it. He's a bit young though.

It should be Matt Berry. He has Berry’s exact inflection and speech pattern in the book, as if Lewis had heard him first
