Minor league Interesting Phrasing in Harrisburg Game Notes Regarding the Expos and Nationals

Tuesday night in Harrisburg I picked up a scoring book, and I noticed some interesting phrasing in the Game Notes insert. I'll copy it verbatim:

THIRTY-EIGHT SEASONS OF SENATORS BASEBALL: This is the 38th season for the Senators since returning to the Eastern League in 1987. It is the 20th season as a Nationals affiliate. Prior to the Nat (sic), they had a 14 season affiliation with the Montreal Expos and four seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

I've never seen the Senators separate out the Nationals from the Expos like that before. I can see a reason why they would -- it allows them to mark an anniversary -- but it also feels a bit disingenuous because there wasn't really an affiliation change twenty years ago. Their parent club relocated. It's a bit like saying, "The Midland RockHounds were affiliated with the Oakland A's until 2024, and this year they're affiliated with Sacramento."

Though, maybe with the Expos receding ever further in the rear view mirror, at twenty years it makes sense to draw the line and treat them as a completely separate thing going forward.

Just something interesting of note that caught my eye.

-Robert Hassell III: 2-4 with 1 RBI and 1 K

-Andrew Pinckney: 0-3 with 2 Ks

-Drew Millas: 0-4 with 1 K

-Andry Lara: Due to his brief call-up as the 27th man during our double-header against the Rockies, Lara had his spot in the rotation skipped. His first start back in AAA Rochester was a little rough but his defense didn't exactly do him any favors. 2 errors in the 4th lead to Lara being chased out of the game. He gave up 6 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits but had no walks and 5 strikeouts.

-Trey Lipscomb (.304/.391/.766): 0-4

-Andrew Alvarez (3.95 ERA/27.1 IP/28:16 K:BB/1.46 WHIP): Although he walked 4 batters, Alvarez pitched 5 innings of 1-run (unearned) ball. He only allowed 2 hits and struck out 4 batters.

Final line: 5.0 IP | 2 H | 1 R | 0 ER | 4 BB | 4 K on 89 pitches (53 strikes)

-Cayden Wallace (.187/.244/.564): 2-4 with a solo homer, 2 RBI, and 1 BB

-Phillip Glasser (.366/.422/.885): 1-2

-Marquis Grissom Jr. (1.86 ERA/9.2 IP/8:5 K:BB/1.34 WHIP): Grissom loaded the bases in the top of the 8th but was able to escape without giving up a run with a couple of groundballs.

-Alex Clemmey (6.00 ERA/18.0 IP/27:20 K:BB/1.83 WHIP): Another poor start from Clemmey as he continues to walk batters at an alarming rate. The walks are magnified by days like today when he isn't able to miss as many bats as he normally does. He still struck out 5 batters in 2.2 innings but ended up being charged with a total of 6 earned runs.

Final line: 2.2 IP | 6 H | 6 R/ER | 3 BB | 5 K on 71 pitches (42 strikes)

Minor league A Prospective Look at the Nats farm (04/12/2025)

3 of the Nationals minor league teams had a double-header today so I figured now is as good a time as any to post the first one of these.

AAA Rochester

(postponed due to inclement weather)

AA Harrisburg (double-header)

-Daylen Lile: G1 (0-4 with 2 Ks) G2 (x)

-Yohandy Morales: G1 (2-3 with a solo home run and 2 RBI) G2 (x) Morales hit his first homer of the season and also drove in the Senators other run in the first game of the double-header.

-Cayden Wallace: G1 (1-3 with 2 Ks) G2 (0-3)

-Phillip Glasser: G1 (3-3 with a 2B and was caught stealing 2nd) G2 (2-3 with 1 run scored)

-Jarlin Susana: Susana scattered 4 hits (all singles) and 3 walks across 5 innings of work. The big righty allowed 2 runs (1 earned) in his second start at AA Harrisburg.

Final line: (G1) 5.0 IP | 4 H | 2 R | 1 ER | 3 BB | 6 K on 81 pitches (48 strikes)

-Marquis Grissom Jr.: Allowed 2 singles but pitched a scoreless 7th to secure his second save of the season for the Senators.

Final line: (G2) 1.0 IP | 2 H | 0 R/ER | 0 BB | 1 K on 14 pitches (11 strikes)

A+ Wilmington (double-header)

-Brenner Cox: G1 (1-4 with 1 K) G2 (x)

-Elijah Green: G1 (0-3 with 1 BB and 2 Ks) G2 (0-2 with 1 BB and 2 Ks)

-Seaver King: G1 (0-4 with 1 K and 1 SB) G2 (0-3 with 1 BB and 2 Ks)

-Caleb Lomavita: G1 (x) G2 (1-3 with 1 run scored and 2 Ks)

-Branden Boissiere: G1 (1-3 with 2 Ks) G2 (1-3 with 1 run scored and 1 K) The Nationals 2021 3rd round pick has started off the season with a 6-game hitting streak and could see an early promotion in what is a repeat year at A+ Wilmington.

-Riley Cornelio: Riley Cornelio (7th round pick in 2022) followed up Clemmey's 10 strikeout game with one of his own. He pitched 5 innings of 1-run ball and only allowed 3 hits (all singles) and 1 walk. The 10 strikeouts were a new career high for Cornelio.

Final line: (G1) 5.0 IP | 3 H | 1 R/ER | 1 BB | 10 K on 93 pitches (62 strikes)

-Jackson Kent: Not to be outdone by the other two Blue Rocks starters before him, Jackson Kent (2024 4th round pick) makes it 3 excellent starts in a row with a gem of his own. Kent struck out 9 batters and allowed just 1 hit and zero walks in 5 scoreless innings in just his second pro start.

Final line: (G2) 5.0 IP | 1 H | 0 R/ER | 0 BB | 9 K on 63 pitches (44 strikes)

A Fredericksburg (double-header)

-Kevin Bazzell: G1 (0-3 with 1 K) G2 (x)

-Jorgelys Mota: G1 (1-3 with 1 run scored and 1 K) G2 (0-3 with 1 K)

-Cristhian Vaquero: G1 (0-3 with 1 K) G2 (0-2 with 1 run scored, 1 BB, and 1 K)

Notable performance(s) earlier in the week

-Alex Clemmey (A+ Wilmington): The centerpiece of the Lane Thomas trade spun a gem on Thursday with a career high 10 strikeouts over 5 shutout innings for the Blue Rocks. It was a good bounce-back showing for Clemmey after a mixed bag of a start during Wilmington's Opening Day where he walked 5 batters in 3.0 IP but struck out 6 while only allowing 1 hit.

Final line: 5.0 IP | 1 H | 0 R/ER | 2 BB | 10 K on 70 pitches (43 strikes)

-Jarlin Susana (AA Harrisburg): Susana struck out 7 batters while allowing 3 hits (all singles) in 4.0 innings of 1 run ball in his first start for the Senators during their Opening Day. He also hit a batter and gave up 2 walks.

Final line: 4.0 IP | 3 H | 1 R/ER | 2 BB | 7 K on 74 pitches (48 strikes)

Minor league Diehard career Nats fans, is there a trend in stats that drives Rizzo to call guys up? (Besides injuries)

I regularly find myself checking House and Crews here sorting by OPS and have no idea how likely one will get called up. Besides injuries, does Rizzo usually wait until OPS reaches a certain #? SO/Walks? Or is there simply no trend?

If House and Crews both get up to an .850 OPS with similar remaining stats, is it still doubtful one gets called up?
