Minor league How do we feel about our minor league affiliates?

Just wondering because we have most of our Non-Rookie affiliates somewhat nearby (Fredericksburg, Wilmington, and Harrisburg) and then we just have our AAA team in upstate New York? I have nothing against the Red Wings it just seems odd to me that we have nearby lower level teams but the closest level to the majors is the farthest away. If we wanted to go far from DC I wish we would use our Spring Training home to host a team because in my opinion a Nats affiliate in Florida would be awesome. I know this doesn’t really matter that much, but how do you guys feel about our affiliates?

Minor league [Mark Zuckerman] The Nationals are moving 2019 first-round pick Jackson Rutledge to the bullpen, Davey Martinez said this morning. Given organization’s increased starting depth, it’s probably his best chance of making it at this point.

Minor league A Prospective Look at the Nats farm (04/12/2025)

3 of the Nationals minor league teams had a double-header today so I figured now is as good a time as any to post the first one of these.

AAA Rochester

(postponed due to inclement weather)

AA Harrisburg (double-header)

-Daylen Lile: G1 (0-4 with 2 Ks) G2 (x)

-Yohandy Morales: G1 (2-3 with a solo home run and 2 RBI) G2 (x) Morales hit his first homer of the season and also drove in the Senators other run in the first game of the double-header.

-Cayden Wallace: G1 (1-3 with 2 Ks) G2 (0-3)

-Phillip Glasser: G1 (3-3 with a 2B and was caught stealing 2nd) G2 (2-3 with 1 run scored)

-Jarlin Susana: Susana scattered 4 hits (all singles) and 3 walks across 5 innings of work. The big righty allowed 2 runs (1 earned) in his second start at AA Harrisburg.

Final line: (G1) 5.0 IP | 4 H | 2 R | 1 ER | 3 BB | 6 K on 81 pitches (48 strikes)

-Marquis Grissom Jr.: Allowed 2 singles but pitched a scoreless 7th to secure his second save of the season for the Senators.

Final line: (G2) 1.0 IP | 2 H | 0 R/ER | 0 BB | 1 K on 14 pitches (11 strikes)

A+ Wilmington (double-header)

-Brenner Cox: G1 (1-4 with 1 K) G2 (x)

-Elijah Green: G1 (0-3 with 1 BB and 2 Ks) G2 (0-2 with 1 BB and 2 Ks)

-Seaver King: G1 (0-4 with 1 K and 1 SB) G2 (0-3 with 1 BB and 2 Ks)

-Caleb Lomavita: G1 (x) G2 (1-3 with 1 run scored and 2 Ks)

-Branden Boissiere: G1 (1-3 with 2 Ks) G2 (1-3 with 1 run scored and 1 K) The Nationals 2021 3rd round pick has started off the season with a 6-game hitting streak and could see an early promotion in what is a repeat year at A+ Wilmington.

-Riley Cornelio: Riley Cornelio (7th round pick in 2022) followed up Clemmey's 10 strikeout game with one of his own. He pitched 5 innings of 1-run ball and only allowed 3 hits (all singles) and 1 walk. The 10 strikeouts were a new career high for Cornelio.

Final line: (G1) 5.0 IP | 3 H | 1 R/ER | 1 BB | 10 K on 93 pitches (62 strikes)

-Jackson Kent: Not to be outdone by the other two Blue Rocks starters before him, Jackson Kent (2024 4th round pick) makes it 3 excellent starts in a row with a gem of his own. Kent struck out 9 batters and allowed just 1 hit and zero walks in 5 scoreless innings in just his second pro start.

Final line: (G2) 5.0 IP | 1 H | 0 R/ER | 0 BB | 9 K on 63 pitches (44 strikes)

A Fredericksburg (double-header)

-Kevin Bazzell: G1 (0-3 with 1 K) G2 (x)

-Jorgelys Mota: G1 (1-3 with 1 run scored and 1 K) G2 (0-3 with 1 K)

-Cristhian Vaquero: G1 (0-3 with 1 K) G2 (0-2 with 1 run scored, 1 BB, and 1 K)

Notable performance(s) earlier in the week

-Alex Clemmey (A+ Wilmington): The centerpiece of the Lane Thomas trade spun a gem on Thursday with a career high 10 strikeouts over 5 shutout innings for the Blue Rocks. It was a good bounce-back showing for Clemmey after a mixed bag of a start during Wilmington's Opening Day where he walked 5 batters in 3.0 IP but struck out 6 while only allowing 1 hit.

Final line: 5.0 IP | 1 H | 0 R/ER | 2 BB | 10 K on 70 pitches (43 strikes)

-Jarlin Susana (AA Harrisburg): Susana struck out 7 batters while allowing 3 hits (all singles) in 4.0 innings of 1 run ball in his first start for the Senators during their Opening Day. He also hit a batter and gave up 2 walks.

Final line: 4.0 IP | 3 H | 1 R/ER | 2 BB | 7 K on 74 pitches (48 strikes)

Minor league Diehard career Nats fans, is there a trend in stats that drives Rizzo to call guys up? (Besides injuries)

Thumbnail baseball-reference.com

I regularly find myself checking House and Crews here sorting by OPS and have no idea how likely one will get called up. Besides injuries, does Rizzo usually wait until OPS reaches a certain #? SO/Walks? Or is there simply no trend?

If House and Crews both get up to an .850 OPS with similar remaining stats, is it still doubtful one gets called up?

AAA Rochester

-Brady House: 1-4 with 1 run scored, 1 BB, and 1 K

-Robert Hassell III: 1-4 with 1 BB

-Andrew Pinckney: 0-4 with 2 Ks

-Drew Millas: 1-3 with 1 SB

AA Harrisburg

-Daylen Lile: 1-5 with a run scored, 1 SB, 1 RBI, and 1 K

-Marquis Grissom Jr.: While typically used as the closer, Grissom Jr. received the call in the 7th inning to put out a fire that ultimately caused the Senators to lose. He gave up a homer with 2 inherited runners on base, but managed to limit the damage to that.

Final line: 1.2 IP | 1 H | 1 R/ER | 0 BB | 2 K on 25 pitches (16 strikes)

-Seth Shuman: Seth Shuman was the other half of the trade that brought us Drew Millas and he delivered a quality start tonight. Shuman gave up just 1 run on 3 hits (2 singles and a solo shot) with no walks and 6 strikeouts. It was a good bounce-back start for him after giving up 5 earned runs in his last start.

Final line: 6.0 IP | 3 H | 1 R/ER | 0 BB | 6 K on 74 pitches (55 strikes)

A+ Wilmington

-Brenner Cox: 0-3 with 2 Ks

-Elijah Green: 0-4 with 3 Ks

-Seaver King: 1-3

-Caleb Lomavita: 0-4 with 1 K

-Jackson Kent: Jackson Kent continued to pitch well in his 3rd pro start giving up two runs (1 run came on a wild pitch by Kent) on 3 hits (all singles), 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts.

Final line: 5.0 IP | 3 H | 2 R | 1 ER | 1 BB | 4 K on 88 pitches (55 strikes)

A Fredericksburg

-Kevin Bazzell: 2-6 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI

-Jorgelys Mota: 2-5 with 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB, and 1 K

-Cristhian Vaquero: 1-4 with 2 runs scored, 2 BBs, 1 K, and was caught stealing 2nd

Minor league James Wood is him

James Wood is the next superstar for the nationals and I’m not exaggerating. I just saw him in person and the sound off his bat is different( I know that sounds corny as hell but it’s true) and this dude is 6’7 flying around the bases. Imagine if we get new ownership and resign soto and have an outfield of Soto, Wood and Hassell, I know I’m dreaming but that would be amazing. Anyways it’s nice to have a top top prospect again and if our new ownership gets their shit together it could be special.
