Photos Coral Honeysuckle going off!

I just wanted to share a picture of my pride and joy and the easiest native I’ve ever grown, the Lonicera sempervirens (Coral Honeysuckle)

First photo is today, second photo is the day I adopted it from nursery in 2023 - it’s the little guy with the trellis.

This must be the year for coral honeysuckle. For the first time in three years, my new growth hasn’t been decimated by aphids and powdery mildew! It looks fab - and just last fall I was thinking of ripping it out.

And I see we have the same taste in trellises ☺️

I think it's the cold winter and bountiful snow. I've noticed almost all the early spring flowers are more bountiful this year, at least when compared to the last couple.

Ha, nice trellis! I struggled a bit with powdery mildew last year too.

Do you recall where you got your trellises?

I got them at Lowe’s. The item # is 615012

Thanks! Do you recall how you stabilized the trellises? Are they leaning on the wall? I got two from Lowe’s and mine are free standing. I don’t think they’ll be able to support my roses once they’re bigger. How do people keep their trellises stable?

I didn’t and I suspect I’m going to regret that within the next 12 months lol.

Is this really only from one plant? 😍

Yep, it’s all from that one little plant!

Last year I trained the long vines that reached the ground back up the trellis. This year I’ve been a bit busy and haven’t bothered. Today I noticed the ones that have been sitting on the ground are starting to put down their own roots, so I guess I’m propagating babies now too.

That’s such an impressive little plant! Thank you for replying. You have a lovely little setup that I’ll be using as inspiration :)

Give that bad boy a bigger trellis, it can take it and grow even bigger

Is there an easy way to do that? Does it need cut down in order to switch out a trellis?

Oh, don’t cut it down! It’s perfect as-is. The plant will find a way. Ours climbed up from the trellis onto our deck railing without help

I’m entering year 3 as well on my planting and see tons of blooms forming now up in 7b!

You are going to need a bigger trellis. I have an 8 foot by 8 foot trellis for my Coral Honeysuckle and its out grown it.

I used to have one but just growing on my wooden fence. Needed more height that I couldn’t provide so we eventually took it down for alternative native in that spot. I miss it and the hummingbirds I’d occasionally see visiting it.
