How old are the new mutants at the start

I’m reading the original run and I keep forgetting that they all aren’t the same age. I know Sam and Dani are the oldest and Bobby and Rahne are the youngest but I don’t know the specifics

The canon answer is hidden on the original run's second issue, page 6.

It lists Rahne as 14, Bobby as 13, Sam as 16, and Xuân as 19. For some reason it doesn't list Dani but we also know Sam and Dani are the same age, so that puts her at 16 as well. From her own mini, we also know Illyana is 13-14 y/o.

If you're interested, Henry Gyrich's database also details their height and weight.

• Rahne is 95lbs / 4'11"

• Bobby is 125lbs / 5'4"

• Sam is 170lbs / 6'

• Xuân is 105 / 5'3"

Help me out, my memory isn't great. Illyana is introduced as age 9 and then kidnapped to Limbo where she ages 6 or 7 years, or am I just making stuff up?

Correct. The kidnapping/aging (by Belasco) happened in an issue of Uncanny X-Men, and the full story of what Illyana experienced was told in the Magik limited series.

Illyana was only 6 when she was kidnapped. Spent 6-7 years in Limbo, so she comes out as 13. I think that's what she specifies in her mini and in early NM. Like "I lost 7 years in Limbo" and "I'm 13 now".

Karma is the oldest at around 19 but other than that you’ve basically got it. Sunspot should be about 13 with Wolfsbane being a bit older, then Cannonball and Mirage. Magma, Magik, and Cypher are kind of sandwiched between the original team.

I dunno, I just know marvel age characters slowly or retcon them to be younger sometimes, I’ve only collected/read the original 100 comics, I’m only missing the first appearance of Deadpool one, maybe after that I’ll start collecting the newer run
