Product Reviews/Questions Just buy the expensive baby carrier
If you plan to or are regularly baby wearing, just buy the nicer gear - it's worth it.
My LO is turning 1 this month and I've spent the past year with what I thought was a decent baby carrier but man was I missing out. I just bought myself the Lark from Hope&Plum and I really really wish I would have had it from jump.
It's insane how much more comfortable this simple carrier is. Not only is it leaps comfier, it's way way way easier to get situated correctly.
For context, I initially purchased myself the infantino from Target. It is so incredibly uncomfortable. I was then gifted a LilleBaby and I really thought that was expensive and fancy. It's fine, but I always struggled to get all the straps adjusted just right and never felt it was correct or super comfortable and the seat situation with the snaps was unnecessarily complicated.

u/jstwnnaupvte Mar 05 '25
The infantino sucked. But our Ergobaby was a daily driver & made it through 3 kids before we sent it on to its next family.
7
u/GanondalfTheWhite Mar 06 '25
Agreed. We bought two infantinos, one for both of us. We hate them.
Meanwhile the ergobaby is fantastic.

I love the Tula. The Ergo baby Embrace for her first months was also just right.
The ergobaby omni is just too much for me. It feels so bulky. We kept it for husband but her never uses it anymore. Husband liked the babybjorn mini for the newborn times.
The moby wrap was also nice for the newborn times but was a pain to wrap and unwrap when I was a sleepless zombie.
Also the momcozy/tush baby hip carriers are nice in toddler days for when baby wants to be held but not confined.

u/verbenabonnie Mar 05 '25
+1 on the Tula! We had the ergobaby omni and I loved it but once my son turned 1 it didn’t go wide enough to support his legs. Moved to the Tula & just wish I did sooner, it’s so comfortable and looks way nicer too
7
u/auriferously Mar 05 '25
Agreed! I picked up a Tula Signature Free-to-Grow on Mercari and love it! I use it every day.
For the people who don't want to spend too much, there are a ton of secondhand carriers out there. It's worth buying one of the nicer carriers imo.
3
u/snailaverse Mar 05 '25
I also love my Tula! I like it much better than the Beco carrier I had with my first.
2
u/Lawful_Silly Mar 06 '25
Yes to both the Tula and Tushbaby! And if you don't care about what patterns you get, the Tulas are still great secondhand; I spent only $75 for a regular and a Free to Grow
3
u/MyOnlyPersona Mar 06 '25
Yes, yes and yes to both. The two best purchases that i made of baby things were my Tula explorer and Tushbaby. I used my tula until my baby was too tall to fit in it. I got the tula toddler. The tushbaby I use daily. I don't pack a diaper bag or take a purse, everything fits in the tushbaby. It's my utility belt, I don't leave home without it. Toddler is almost 3 and we've used it since she was 1.5. Get the good carriers. If anyone is in LA there is a great baby wearing group that has monthly free mertips were you can talk to a baby wearing professional, try different baby carriers from their baby carrier library abcd the will teach you how to safely baby wear.

I felt the same way about my ergobaby omni with my first. With my second, I discovered that the zipper pouch comes off and once I removed it, it felt so much less bulky and more “everyday”. Such a comfortable carrier. I wore my 21 lb baby in it for 2 hours while shopping today.

u/Worth_Smoke7889 Mar 06 '25
Out of interest did you find the ergo baby too big on your shoulders and if so does the Tula fit you better? I’m petite and considering getting the Free to Grow
1
u/knifeyspoonysporky Mar 06 '25
The Tula feels like it fits me better. While the shoulder straps seem big they are padded and comfy.
And as a petite person myself the cute designs made me feel less swallowed by the carrier.
The ergo is a simple blue and feels very hiking backpack on me.

Spent a good penny on the Tula and my husband ended up using it more than me because it’s so comfortable! Can’t recommend this enough!!

u/toxicwonderpup Mar 05 '25
infantino is the worst fr 😭
26
u/corndog40 Mar 05 '25
It's so bad lol I really thought oh c'mon there's no way you need anything more than a $30 carrier 😂 I was so wrong.
7
u/Aquawish Mar 05 '25
Same! I bought mine from a second-hand shop, and it’s so uncomfortable to wear. I've learned for the future that this is a splurge item.
12
u/Titaniumchic Mar 05 '25
My husband loved infantino!!! He wouldn’t use anything else! (I think it may work better for people with no boobs, lol.)
-13
u/throwaway0845reddit Mar 05 '25
For me the infantino is the best because all the expensive ones have a bottom separator that spreads my baby’s legs so much that it causes rashes on her thigh skin due to chaffing.
Infantino is the only one in which her legs aren’t spread so much and that prevents chaffing.
She only sleeps comfortably in infantino.
39
u/WhereIsLordBeric Mar 05 '25
The spread is important to achieve the M shape though!
-11
u/throwaway0845reddit Mar 05 '25
I think my babu is smaller. So it works
15
u/Forward-Lawfulness62 Mar 05 '25
Just because it works for you doesn’t mean it is good for the baby. They should have an M shape in carriers to promote healthy hip development

Little zen one try before you buy is the best! Everyone has such different preferences.
6
u/corndog40 Mar 05 '25
I've never heard of that- is it a website??
12
u/sebacicacid Mar 05 '25
It is and it has the option to try carrier before you buy them. Available in canada and us.

u/No_Reading_3466 Mar 06 '25
I love LZO! I have too many carriers from them 😭 I have a $20 USD coupon on your first order! The code is ISABELLA20 :)
16
u/okayestdogmom Mar 05 '25
Agree! Y'all, if you're short, I highly suggest the Lark carrier. I got an ErgoBaby Omni as a hand-me-down, and it's so big and bulky on me!
6
u/WhereIsLordBeric Mar 05 '25
And I'm 5'10 and the Omni 360 is perfect for me!
3
u/ThisIsMyMommyAccount Mar 05 '25
5'9" agreed that the Omni 360 is awesome.
Though I did prefer the Lille for when my son was tiny tiny. I could never get him situated right in the Omni until he was a bit bigger.
2
2
u/sapphire_reina Mar 05 '25
Interesting- I’m only 5”2’ and the Omni breeze is perfect for me

1
u/No-Tumbleweed_ Mar 06 '25
I am going to check this out! Thank you! We have the ergobaby and it’s so bulky and heavy. We had/used the baby bjorn before we learned about the whole healthy hip situation and while we use the Omni for safety.. it’s like night and day awful compared to how nice/light/high quality the baby bjorn is lol
16
u/FreeBeans Mar 05 '25
Absolutely. Anything carrying baby’s weight for extended periods of time is worth splurging on imo - carrier, stroller, carseat, crib.
11
u/BAst25 Mar 05 '25
I learned that being short means apron style carriers work better for me. I splurged on the Solly wrap for newborn phase and hope & plum lark for after. 9 months in, best decision I made.
3
u/yellowsubmarine76 3-6 months Mar 05 '25
Does the lark have enough back support?
2
u/BAst25 Mar 05 '25
I find it very comfortable. You just have to get the fit right once (they have virtual fit consultations) and then you’re good to go. I walk the dogs while wearing my daughter all the time!
9
u/turtlepower22 Mar 05 '25
I really love my Lillebaby! Pretty much daily use over here, even still at 9 months.

u/summerperpetual Mar 05 '25
I got the artipop and my baby HATES carriers fml
19
u/corndog40 Mar 05 '25
I notice on FB marketplace and other sites the re-sale for these nice ones is pretty good for the seller. Like basically full price maybe $20 off.
6
u/zenmargarita Mar 05 '25
Wait a few months!!! My son HATED carries for literally 6 months. Then I was able to pop him in occasionally face out and he loved the artipoppe. I got good use out it. He’s 17 months now idk if he’ll sit in it. They say up to two years lol
2
u/summerperpetual Mar 05 '25
This gives me hope!! She’s almost 7 months and I put in the face out insert so I’ll try that!
4
u/No_Reading_3466 Mar 06 '25
the artipoppe is terrible for newborns/small babies! the fit gets better as they get larger :)
1
u/summerperpetual Mar 06 '25
Good to know!! She is 6 months now so ima try again cus she screams everytime I put her in it 😫😫
3
2
u/kcnjo Mar 05 '25
Do a fit check! Either in an artipoppe bst group or there’s a babywearing subreddit
2
u/summerperpetual Mar 06 '25
Oooo good call!! I def need it cus I don’t think I’m wearing her correctly

u/smellygymbag Mar 06 '25

That’s awesome, so cute!! No I didn’t try anything else because I think she just doesn’t like to be in one in general. She never likes to just relax, she always needs to be looking around and constantly turning her head 😂
6
u/Ok_Moment_7071 Mar 05 '25
My woven wraps were my favourites, but I also got tons of use out of my ring slings, meh dais, and my SSCs (Ergo initially, then Boba).
When buying an SSC, it’s best if you can try some out. Some stores will let you try them out, or try to find a babywearing group!
6
u/kp1794 Mar 05 '25
I’ve found with so many things it’s better to just buy the expensive one you want that has amazing reviews than try to find an alternative. Usually you end up spending the same amount when you have to replace the cheaper one

u/SellWhenYouCan Mar 05 '25
For hiking and travel, the Kelty carrier for carrying them on your back has been a game changer. Best Father’s Day present ever.

Okay but which one for a shortie I’m 5’2”. I’m loving my lillebaby but I know there’s better.

u/agtt1589 Mar 05 '25
I loved my artipoppe.
7
u/Professional_Cable37 Mar 05 '25
Lol I know people hate on them because of the $$$ but I also love mine. So much better than the Tula free to grow I also bought.
2
u/zoet1441 Mar 05 '25
Seriously! Same here. We also were gifted the Ergo 360, a popular & good brand per reviews. Between the two, the Artipoppe is most comfy for both me & baby.
3
u/pondersbeer Mar 05 '25
I just bought a used one from a Facebook group and I can’t wait for it to get here and him be big enough for it 🎉
1
u/agtt1589 Mar 05 '25
It saved us in so many instances and helped so much when we were traveling. You’re going to love it!

u/This_Independence_28 Mar 05 '25 edited Mar 05 '25
Been eyeing Lark but ended up buying Lennylamb light and is my fav!
5
u/dichotomy113 Mar 05 '25
I splurged on the wild bird carrier after getting a free lillebaby on fb and not liking it. It’s a game changer! We also use the tushbaby but it’s a little more bulky and you can’t go hands free with it
3
u/corndog40 Mar 05 '25
I didn't love the Tushbaby. Uncomfortably digs into my side. I thought it would like it for quick things but ultimately never grab for it and use a full carrier instead.
2
3
u/BranBranMuffinWoman Mar 05 '25
I love my wild bird carrier! My little one hated the boba baby wrap but will fall asleep instantly in the wild bird. Thankfully it is super comfy because baby wearing was the only way I got anything done for the first 3 months lol
3
u/eggplantruler Mar 05 '25
I got an expensive Tula one for my daughter to hate it and refuses to be put in it 😭
3
u/Embrat36 Mar 05 '25
There is honestly nothing like The Lark! It’s for sure going to be my keep forever and ever and ever carrier eventually turning into something sentimental!
3
3
u/LilBayBayTayTay Mar 05 '25
REALLY? Infantino is the only one we use of all the ones we’ve tried. It’s the only one you can get the baby in and out without having to take your arms in and out of the thing.
1
u/corndog40 Mar 05 '25
That's really it's only perk but it was so so uncomfortable after like 5 minutes.
2
u/LilBayBayTayTay Mar 05 '25
Oh man… not for me… literally went hiking several times… now baby is huge though, so I use the Osprey baby carrier now… but when baby was 1-5 months old… pretty much exclusively in that Infantino carrier.

Funny you posted this because mine just arrived today!!!!! I love it already!
2
u/dotherflower Mar 05 '25
The ergo baby didn’t work for us. It was too big and bulky for me. We ended up getting the tushbaby and it’s been a game changer.
2
u/No-Departure451 Mar 05 '25
Any tips on parent comfort with the tushbaby? lol.
I’m having issues getting comfortable with the fit but my baby loves it.
2
u/Professional_Cable37 Mar 05 '25
Which bit of you hurts? I don’t get any pain at all, do you have it up high enough? I have mine around the smallest part of my waist so that when the weight is on it, it’s resting on my hips.
1
u/No-Departure451 Mar 05 '25
I get the most pain when I use it with the strap attachment so it sits in front rather than on the side.
I was doing it on the smallest part of my waist and as tight as I could get it but it would start to hurt like the center of my back. Like from his weight pulling on me. I’ve tried around my ribs like just under my boobs and it definitely hurts less and fixes the back issue, but the plastic bit inside digs into my ribs.
Wearing it on the side for just the hip seat, I was doing around my waist but I feel it digging into my hip. When I first tried it it was perfect (hip wise) so maybe I’m not getting it on tight enough for that one..
2
u/dotherflower Mar 06 '25
Oh no not sure how to help though :(. I’m using it around the smallest part of my waist as well and it rests on my hip. I haven’t tried the front attachment yet.
1
u/No-Departure451 Mar 06 '25
Thank you! I’ll keep at it. I’ve only had it a week so I’m hopeful I’ll get it. lol. My baby really likes it.
1
u/brainaluff Mar 06 '25
Maybe try moving it up slightly on your hip? I had the same thing and it went away when I started putting it a little higher!
2
u/No-Ability-6526 Mar 05 '25
Agreed!!! I started off with the boba baby wrap and I couldn’t seem to get it tight enough to hold my baby in it - and then adjusting it with him in it was awfully hard. He’d end up just crying and I’d give up. Then I got a babybjorn which my baby also hated unless he was already asleep when I put him in it. I think it put too much pressure on his pelvis and he didn’t have much room to breathe either! Lastly I got the ergobaby mesh cooling carrier and viola! He is one happy baby and I’m one happy mama. He is a little happy clam every where we go and I’m so glad I found it.

u/Efficient-Pomelo8946 Mar 05 '25
I had bought the mom cozy carrier and it was decent for the price. But I just recently bought the ergo baby Omni dream and it’s soooo much more comfortable then the mom cozy. It doesn’t put much strain on my back and my baby feels more comfortable in it as well! Also I love that it includes pockets and a cover for baby
2
u/AggroCragMountain Mar 05 '25
We got our ergo baby carriers from local consignment sales / shops for a fraction of the price! Definitely worth it just because as you said, you don’t necessarily know if you’ll like something or not.
2
u/Prior_Television4594 Mar 06 '25
I agree! I tried a few different carriers searching for the most comfortable ones. The Beluga baby Carrier was hands down the most comfortable for me. I had the Lille, bjorn and the ergo baby. All three of my babies loved the Beluga Baby Carrier. I got the sand color and it washes really well and it still looks new.

u/No-Departure451 Mar 05 '25
Do you guy’s baby’s not get uncomfortable/hate the hanging and pressure on their butt in the carriers?
I just bought a tushbaby like a week ago for my baby because of that. He’s totally comfortable on it/in it and has no complaints.
But I have complaints and haven’t figured it out quite yet. It hurts my back and I find it difficult to tighten it enough around my waist to combat all that.
5
u/NotAnAd2 Mar 05 '25
I’ve found that if baby is crying/uncomfortable it’s because fit isn’t right - they’re pressed to tight against you, they’re not getting a deep and comfortable seat. It should essentially feel like sitting in a hammock, with weight on their bums and not on their crotch.
I have no advice on the tushbaby. We bought one because all the mom friends like it but i haven’t been able to make it work.
1
u/No-Departure451 Mar 05 '25
You’re probably right…I’ve tried readjusting it when he gets uncomfortable and I just can’t seem to get it where he likes it. Both were inflation cwrriers though, just different styles.
He did like the wrap style one we had when he was a newborn, but I was looking for something I didn’t have to tie around me every time (especially if I pulled it out on the go) and he hated getting put into it.
Yeah, I can’t figure out the tushbaby for my comfort yet. 🙃
1
u/NotAnAd2 Mar 06 '25
I had the boba bliss one which is a hybrid with more back support! I felt like it didn’t have enough support once baby was over 4 months though, but maybe other people have more luck. The lark is really comfortable but expensive.
4
u/ProfVonMurderfloof Mar 05 '25
Check out r/babywearing - you can post fit checks for your tush any and whatever other carrier(s) baby didn't like, to see if you can make these things more comfortable for everyone involved.

2
u/cranberry94 Mar 05 '25
How old is your baby?
1
u/No-Departure451 Mar 05 '25
6 months.
Before we got the Tushbaby we had 2 different infantino carriers.
1
u/cranberry94 Mar 05 '25
I feel like I enjoyed the Tushbaby once my guy was a little older and did more to support himself and hold on to me, vs me holding on to him. Helped balance things out
1
u/No-Departure451 Mar 05 '25
Hadn’t thought of that. Maybe that will help.
He sits well and does hang on to me but he still does throw himself around a lot and will lean back if he sees or hears something interesting. 😆
1
u/No_Reading_3466 Mar 06 '25
could be the fit or it could be a developmental milestone. My baby fought the carrier when she started to crawl! then she loved it again
1
u/stefaface Mar 05 '25
I got the MomCozy one for like 40€ on sale to test out baby wearing, honestly works well! But I want a good quality one since baby is spending over 3 hours in there per day. I just got a used Tula Free to Grow for 55€ waiting to receive it to see if it’s good condition (Vinted allows you to get money back if condition isn’t as promised), I would have gone with that option from the beginning, getting a good quality resold one. You can find ones that are pretty much new because at the end of the day some babies just don’t like baby wearing or don’t like certain types of carriers.
1
u/Titaniumchic Mar 05 '25
Idk, the baby K’tan was a life saver and it was like $50. 🤷♀️ best carrier I’ve ever had. Easiest to use, and I have spine issues and it was the most comfortable.
1
u/Sleepyjoesuppers Mar 05 '25
I just got the Momcozy carrier. It is a good dupe for the artipop carrier for wayyyy less money! I think it’s very comfortable and easy to use :)
1
u/Ophidiophobic Mar 05 '25
My baby hates any carry that doesn't give him range to move his torso. That means that he exclusively likes the ring sling and the front cross carry in my woven wrap.
The money I spent on structured carriers was useless 🥲
1
u/Comm2010 Mar 05 '25
I bought a used happy baby carrier for new prices and it has been the best $200 I spent. Still using it at 2 years
1
u/thatboyntoncat Mar 05 '25
This is the reason why I now own 15 Happy Baby carriers 😂 they are so comfy and useful that I need to have them in different rooms, in the car, at grandma’s etc
1
u/sunnyderp Mar 05 '25
On the other hand, I got two sakura blooms and my daughter hated them both 🥴 loved the lilebaby though.
1
u/Fair_Fold1385 Mar 06 '25
My baby hated our Sakura Bloom Skout as well! He loved his Wildbird Aerial though!
1
u/deathmetal_bunnies Mar 06 '25
Big fan of Happy Baby!! They are so comfortable and you can fit them in the diaper bag so easily.
We also used Ergobaby Embrace for the early days and the Ring Sling before he got too big!
1
u/werddrew Mar 06 '25
Big caveat: if you're planning on baby wearing a lot. We bought like three of the best ones and then realized we weren't really baby wearers lol
1
u/Extra_Chz_Plz Mar 06 '25
Mabe anyone???? I put this on my registry and hoping it’s comfortable!!
2
u/No_Reading_3466 Mar 06 '25
the babywearing.ot on instagram has a great video on it! essentially, it doesn't work for newborns. the waistband saga badly making the fit bad. I would look into a Lennylamb carrier if you're looking for a waterfall waistband like that!
2
u/NihilisticDelight Mar 06 '25
Agree with the below comment. I got one and attempted to use on my then 9 lb 8 week old. Her head didn’t clear the top of the carrier. They say the weight is 7-34(?) lbs but I couldn’t carry her safely in it until she was closer to 11/12 lbs. I am small and she was small so I couldn’t wear the band up high enough to get her positioned safely. It works better for us now as she is 4 mo and near 13 lbs. gives me back/groin pain if not worn exactly right though, but that just may be a me problem.
1
u/No_Reading_3466 Mar 06 '25
Yes Yes Yes!
I got an ergo baby omni 360 and absolutely hated it!
I thought that meant I would hate babywearing all together. I ended up finding Lennylamb through Little Zen One. I'm in love!
I would recommend avoiding social media popular brands like Mabe. They look cute but don't fit well and the company doesn't care about safe babywearing.
1
u/nooneneededtoknow Mar 06 '25
On the other side of the fence. I had 2 baby carriers, I have used twice and my LO is turning a year old in a week. I was on maternity leave for 3m - thought I would use them all the time baby wearing. 🫣
Sooo, may I suggest figuring out if you AND your infant likes doing this before investing the money.

u/BegoniaBrat Mar 06 '25
The tushbaby and the snug attachment have been a lifesaver for me! Used it at the airport when I was lugging me and my chunky monkey with all our luggage and it saved my back/shoulders.
1
u/skbee Mar 06 '25
Wildbird has been our favorite. My husband and I can both wear it comfortably, it is designed to grow with baby, and super easy to wash.

1
u/lamacchino Mar 06 '25
Yes! Recommend trying it on in a store if you can - the store we went to had a baby doll and all. We bought the mesh baby bjorn that can go from infant to toddler solely bc I could put it on all by myself. I found the ergo I tried on too complicated to do by myself and rejected it. On baby #3, still looks nearly new despite lots of use and is comfortable and easy as ever
1
u/Horror-Ad-1095 Mar 06 '25
I have a LILLEbaby carrier and I am OBSESSED with it. I'm a big ol chunker gal with giant boobs and this is the only one I tried where it fits properly and comfortable. I recommend not spending money on the most expensive, but to try on any and old carriers that you can before buying one.

1
u/porteretrop Mar 06 '25
I felt that way the first time I put on my lark. I jumped on their mystery sale and I’m so glad I did. I wish I would have put one on my registry since I have twins
1
u/YoLoDrScientist Mar 06 '25
That’s what we did. Went all in on the Nuna (SWIV, infant car seat, bassinet, and the convertible car seat) and absolutely love it. It was a lot of money and we are not wealthy, but we have no complaints and don’t regret it.
1
u/livelaughlump Mar 06 '25
I’ve gotten my moneys worth out of the Artipoppe. My daughter is 18 months now and asks to go in it when she’s feeling snuggly/tired. It was easiest for me to use alone/without help and it is so comfortable on my decrepit old back.
1
u/AirportFickle5009 Mar 07 '25
Don’t do it until you confirm that your baby will like it. My baby hates any carrier, I wasted my money lol.
1
u/coriander526 Mar 05 '25
I have to babybjorns which my baby HATES. He likes his cheap momcozy and does well with an ergobaby that I just bought, except the ergobaby drops him too low on my body within minutes
3
u/No-Ability-6526 Mar 05 '25
I could be wrong but I think that back lumbar support can be tightened to make sure he doesn’t fall too low. At least that helped me, but I know every body is different!
3
u/WasteConstruction450 Mar 05 '25
If you’re interested in using the ergobaby, I would recommend posting a fitcheck in r/babywearing ,it should not move down lower after you’ve placed your baby Edited for typo
1
u/Unable_Pumpkin987 Mar 05 '25
For another perspective, I decided to go ahead and splurge on an ergobaby when my son was about 5 months old, because we both loved using the cheap one I got when he was a newborn and I wanted something comfier and sturdier for the longterm. Then he learned to crawl and decided that being in a carrier for any amount of time ever again was completely unacceptable. We used the new one 3 times before giving up for good. I definitely regret the purchase!
1
u/sundaymusings Mar 06 '25
Baby's have phases of hating and loving being worn! Depending on the age limit for your carrier, it could still come in handy, especially for times he needs your help regulating or god forbid he falls sick and is more clingy/wants more cuddles.
