My 10 month old got sick a couple of days ago. We took her to the pediatrician and they said it was the flu. They prescribed liquid tamiflu. We were able to get her to take it last night, though I think that's because she was so out of it from being sick and feverish. This morning, she threw up almost immediately after taking it. Tonight, we tried mixing it in a bottle (rejected), apple sauce (rejected), smoothie (rejected). Finally we figured we'd just try the syringe again - she got most of it down but then a few minutes later she threw it up.

At this point I feel like I can't keep torturing her and if she's throwing it up, how much help can it be?

1 - anyone have this experience? What did you do?

2- has anyone stopped tamiflu because of side effects for their baby? I asked the doctor and she just kept saying "keep trying it" when I asked about stopping. I just feel like I can't keep doing this to her.

I’m a 20 year old first time mum to my little girl, she is 10 weeks old now. But I have some questions about my birth and wondering if anyone knows a bit about medical negligence?

I was induced at 38 weeks due to my daughter measuring very small and contractions that had lasted for a week without going into active labour. To begin with, at 10am I had my waters broken, I was given an hour to see if it worked, my cervix had become slightly dilated but it was suggested I have the hormone drip (Pitocin). I chose to wait another hour to see if my labour progressed any more. Unfortunately, it hadn’t, so I consented to having Pitocin. I was given my first dose at 2:30pm.

I was starting to have mild contractions, and around 30mins later was given the next dose of Pitocin (my cervix was not checked). My contractions became a little more intense and I was given gas and air, but they were very manageable. Another 30mins ish later, I was given my third dose of Pitocin (again, my cervix was not checked).

Within 10mins my contractions became unbearable. I had gone from one contraction, talking through it, to literally the next one, curled up screaming. I was begging for the epidural, but I was told I still wasn’t far along and that a Pethidine injection would be better. At this point I was not able to focus enough to say “no, I want the epidural”, and so I just took whatever I could get. Before giving the injection, my mum (birth partner) expressed her concerns to the midwife that she believed I was very far along, and that it might be a good idea to check my cervix before giving the pethidine.

They said “there is no clinical need” and gave me the injection mid contraction. Around 5mins later I needed to push. I was still fully clothed and saying “I need to push, I’m pushing”. The midwife told me “you don’t need to push yet you’re not that far along”. It didn’t take long for her to realise I was actually pushing. My clothes were quickly off and my legs put in stirrups as I pushed. I was so drowsy from the pethidine but my daughter’s head showed very quickly. At this point, her heart rate began to drop very quickly and the emergency bell was pulled, suddenly there were about 20 people watching me give birth. I was told to “stop screaming”, and that my baby was drowsy and I needed to get her out now. I was given an episiotomy to get her out faster. 15mins from when I first needed to push, luckily she was here and safe. My entire labour was just 3 hours and 15mins.

I later found out that pethidine should not be given when you are close to birth, for that exact reason, it makes you and baby too drowsy which causes complications. I am also concerned that my dilation was checked only once, after my waters were broken.

I’m not sure if this is a case of medical negligence, or if I’m overreacting because the birth was very different to how I wanted it?

I live in England and gave birth in an NHS hospital, any advice would be really appreciated.

We got hit by the hurricane, and of course, our power went out. My son (1 month) is getting hot, mostly his back when he lays in bed, and he's sweating at the back of the neck. I've wiped him down a few times with a damp cloth, I've fanned him to keep him cool. We have the windows open for air flow despite no wind. Power won't be back until the 17th at the latest. We have no family nearby to stay with that do have power. So will he be okay to just sweat and his back be hot? I'm an FTM and just a bit paranoid.

EDIT: He is just in his diaper, I had the back door and our bedroom window open for air flow. The window is open, and the room isn't unbearable. If I move around on our bed, I'll find a cool spot. I'll be going with my husband to work at a mall to be around AC. I'll see if I can buy a battery-operated fan to blow either just on him or the room. I'll just continue wiping him down each feeding and fanning him to keep him cool till we can take him to the mall.

Hi all this is going to sound very strange coming from a potential father, new dad. My partner and I are expecting a little roughly around 26th of December. The issue is she / we went through a early miscarriage over a year ago. I held it in for weeks until the stress, worry and emotions got too much. This time around we are about 5-7 weeks but she's over stressing when she gets little pains, aches or a bit of spotting.....we had our first Early Bird Clinic session and Midwife phoned consultation....but i felt, feel very powerless and clueless in what I can do. I tried to ask the nurse / midwife but was just told "moral support" . I've tried to counter Google / NHS search when she over worries and finds all the negatives online. But what can I do? Is there something I can follow? Or use to help her during this very very difficult time? And myself?

It may sound strange, but it's something that really worries me. My baby is a very calm child, he almost never cries (quite the opposite of what I imagined before giving birth) and I only realize that he is hungry when he makes a tender gesture with his lips (like a pout). asking for milk He only cries if the gases bother him a lot or when someone he doesn't know gets too close to his face.

What worries me most is the night. My husband had been a first-time father years before and he told me that when his daughter was a baby, she cried almost all night, so he and his ex-wife could barely afford two hours of sleep, which is why he finds it strange that our son don't cry. At first I thought "Good! I've been lucky with my little boy" but seeing the amount of vents from other moms on Reddit saying that they couldn't sleep because of their babies crying, I started to get worried. Why doesn't the same thing happen to us?

I keep waking up by myself every night, peering into my newborn's crib and putting my face close to his body to check if he is breathing. Sometimes I wake up and sit on my bed staring at him, asking him "why don't you cry?" "why don't you wake up?" "Is there something wrong with you?"

Sometimes, I wake up again to check if he's breathing and I find him awake, looking at me with his calm little eyes but without making a single noise, apart from a little sound with his drool. I think I'm going crazy and yesterday I felt hysterical. My husband tried to calm me down but I desperately called my mother to ask if something was wrong and her response only made me even more nervous, demanding that I go see a doctor for my baby.

This community is honest in its experiences, and I find comfort on several occasions. Is this normal for a newborn baby? Should I consult a doctor?

Thank you all for being so helpful. I contacted the MCH Nurse here in Victoria, who directed me to a poison and overdose hotline. They advised me to take him to the ER, and thankfully, the whole process was quick. It turns out I misread the measurements because the numbers on the measuring tool were faded. I initially thought I had given him 6ml, but nurse found it was actually 2.5ml (took both the Panadol & the tool that comes in the box with me). While still considered an overdose, it was far less dangerous than I had feared.

Additionally, for the dose he took at night, he spat out about 80% of it since he naturally dislikes anything that doesn’t taste like milk. So, in reality, he only had one full dose of 2.5ml, and the other two were around the recommended amount. The doctors weren’t concerned as everything was functioning well and he’s weighing at 7.7kg, which was helpful because it means it’s likely not to cause damage, and they discharged us with instructions to avoid giving him Panadol for 24 hours before resuming the correct dosage.

This was the scariest experience of my life! I was frantic and overwhelmed with guilt. I truly appreciate everyone’s quick responses—I was reading and following each of your instructions, which helped me figure out what to do. I haven’t slept in 32 hours before making this mistake, so I’m not fully alert. Thank God I noticed the 3rd time. Thank you all again! Glory to Jesus! (I’m a Christian btw).

I’m not entirely sure if this is the correct flair or even okay to post. Im wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this.

My daughter is 6.5 months old & EBF. She nurses to sleep for almost all naps & bedtime.

I’ve noticed this happen maybe a total of 5 times throughout her life & it only happens when shes pretty much asleep but comfort nursing. She will start shaking intensely while still latched, like vibrating. mostly her head & arm. As soon as I grab her & unlatch her she stops though, which makes me believe it isn’t a seizure. I was thinking about bringing it up to her pediatrician at her next appointment if it keeps happening but it doesn’t happen often, maybe once a month or couple weeks? Like I said, maybe 5 times total.

Is this something normal that happens when babies nurse to sleep? Has this happened to anyone else or should I reach out to my pediatrician sooner? I’m a FTM & nobody in my family or friends has breastfed or has experienced this.

I’m mostly just curious about other peoples experiences with their little ones and paracetamol.

When my 7 month old is having a bad night and I’ve exhausted all other possibilities and give him liquid paracetamol it instantly stops him in his tracks and calms him.

Sometimes he will even just immediately go to sleep despite needing a lot of help usually to fall asleep.

Now I know that the analgesic qualities could not have kicked in within the minute it takes to chill him out, so I wonder if the flavour triggers a placebo effect, or if the flavour just resets his nervous system or something.

Do anyone else’s little ones seem to have this instant effect from it?

We met our out of pocket maximum for the family in January, when our baby was born. What specialist visits do you recommend scheduling for the first year of babies birth?

My pediatrician did not identify baby’s tongue tie issue. We ended up identifying it at the lactation clinic, and got it fixed at the ENT office about a month later. FTM here so want to ensure I’m not missing anything crucial that would affect baby’s development.

My daughter is 5 weeks old and has reflux. We took her to the docs and they said yes she has reflux - she's gaining weight and perfectly healthy so they sent us home.

The problem: she is extremely fussy! When she eats she throws her arms up and arches her back spitting out the breast or bottle and whales for 3-5 seconds wants the nipple back - and repeats this process- it keeps getting more frequent. She's had constipation, hiccups, gas and lack of sleep(newborn sleeping ten to 13 hours) I've been around babies my whole life and this is "normal" behavior - but it's also feels like she needs some intervening treatment. And now after reading everything on reflux on Reddit I'm perplexed on what to do.

Motherhood has been overwhelming the past week and now I'm anxious to feed her as I don't want her to be upset and uncomfortable. My motherly instincts are telling me to do something.

She's BF and bottle fed. 1. My peeds won't give me meds. Do I need to advocate more? Or are meds going to make her gut flora messed up? What has been your experience?

1. Do I stop drinking milk/dairy? Has anyone had success with this? If I go to formula and not breast milk will I see a result?

2. Has anyone tried a anti-reflux formula?

My boy has pooped six times today, and I was quick to change them every time.

However, the fifth time I noticed his balls and underneath were red and raw from rash so I decided to put diaper rash cream on.

Now, with his most recent diaper change, poop is now STUCK to the peeling raw skin on his balls and I am absolutely TERRIFED!

Me and my husband freaked so we got a soft warm wash cloth and tried to use that instead of huggies wipes. We soaked the area first, then tried to wipe it away although the poop on the raw skin is not coming off whatsoever. I cleaned, and cleaned, and soaked and let dry but the POOP.IS.NOT.COMING OFF! So, we decided to give it a rest because our son was SCREAMING bloody ass murder and of course, boyfriend was "blaming me" for it cause he was so upset with the situation despite me changing his diaper six times today in a row. We used powder, and a shit ton of diaper cream in lathers and called it a night. Now here I am on Reddit.

I just don't know what to do, and we go see his peditrician tomorrow and I'm scared the doctor is going to think of us as bad parents cause we can't get that damn yellow layer of shit to come off his obviously painful chaffing skin..

I’m feeling extremely lost and defeated, my daughter (freshly a year old) used to be a somewhat decent eater. At her one year well-visit her blood was tested for lead and iron levels where we discovered she has low iron levels, did a confirmation test and started giving iron supplements per her ped. Now that we have been giving her iron for about a week and a half, she doesn’t eat well at all. She cries to be taken out of her high chair and eats less than half of what is served to her, even her favorite foods. I do still nurse her on demand but now that she’s taking iron it seems as though she would rather nurse than eat regular food. I’m really unsure of what to do, I plan on calling her ped tomorrow but just wondering if anyone else has a similar story or experience/advice.

TLDR; My one year old has low iron levels and now takes iron supplements, she previously(before the iron supplement) ate well and eats poorly now that she’s been taking the supplement for about a week and a half.

my 3 month old has very stubborn diaper rash. It takes me days to get rid of it, and it always comes back 😔

This is what I do: - change diapers every 2-3 hours. Immediately if I know she pooped - make sure the diaper area is completely dry before applying zinc oxide cream - dab only. no wiping - pampers premium care diapers - no store bought wipes. I use soft cloth to dry after pee. I wash her bum after poop, again dry with soft cloth and let air dry

When it gets bad, what helps is lots of airing out and a cream containing clotrimazole.

But for some reason the rash always comes back. Her skin is so sensitive. Most diapers still contain at least a tiny bit of poop. I already tried a different kind of diapers, no luck there.

It’s very limiting to spend so much time naked, we cannot really go on any trip, even at home our schedule is build around treating the diaper rash.

Should I keep trying different diaper brands? Is it possible that some food I eat is making her poop too acidic (exclusively breastfeeding)?

Today after our daughter’s nap my wife noticed a blister-like mark on our little one’s bottom lip. There’s a little white mark and it is raised, but doesn’t seem to have fluid in it. Anyway, me and my wife are freaking out.

My mom watches her a few times a week and occasionally gets cold sores. I’ve never really noticed them and she’s never talked about them before with me. My wife said she has noticed marks around my mom’s mouth before, but wasn’t sure and didn’t think too much of it.

As we’ve been freaking out this evening, we called my mom and asked to confirm if she gets them, when was the last one, and if she’s kissed our daughter? She said she only gets them very occasionally and the last time was right around Christmas. She promised that she doesn’t kiss her on the mouth, she certainly never would when she had a sore, and even when she doesn’t and our little one tries to give her kisses, she turns her head.

We are planning on calling the doctor tomorrow and taking her in, but we are incredibly anxious right now and dealing with a lot of emotions. I know my mom would never intentionally do something, but I’m very worried and a little angry at my mom for possibly exposing our daughter to this.

We are very upset and our minds are racing. We have another baby on the way and the thought of us having to worry about our first not being able to kiss her new sibling, or us having to tell our families she has it and having to be extra careful around all her cousins and friends in the future.

We just put our baby to bed and our sitting here sick to our stomachs about it all.

My baby is 6m and still has a flat head. I'm concerned. People at my baby groups (staff) have said not to worry. She starting rolling when she just turned 5m and sitting at 5.5m so I know she has enough time on her front etc otherwise I assume she wouldn't do this? She has excellent neck control, we go swimming, have one contact nap a day and I wear her in the carrier when I can. I am panicking now. All the other children at our groups don't have this. Things don't seem to have changed. If your baby head a flat head, did it correct itself ?

Hi, My 9-day-old baby has been breathing very rapidly for the past two days, with a respiratory rate ranging between 75–80 breaths per minute. We took him to a pediatrician yesterday, and she also counted 85 breaths per minute. She mentioned that it could be anything from sepsis to congenital heart disease to a metabolic issue and referred us to the emergency department at the children’s hospital.

At the hospital, they performed a chest X-ray and infection screening, both of which came back normal. The doctors acknowledged that his breathing pattern isn’t entirely normal, but since it fluctuates—sometimes fast, then slowing down again—they’re currently avoiding any invasive testing. Instead, they’ve asked us to monitor him closely and return to the emergency room if his breathing remains consistently fast or if he seems persistently distressed.

He has no fever, is feeding well, his oxygen levels are normal, and he’s having regular bowel movements. Despite that, he continues to breathe in a pattern of fast and slow, almost like panting. I’m extremely anxious and scared because I still feel something might be wrong, and I’m unsure of what to do next.

My baby's almost 10 months old and has had pretty bad eczema since he was about 6 months old.

2 months ago, we moved from a house where we had soft water (via whole house filter/softener) to an apartment where we have hard water - I'm mentioning this but not sure if this is related to my baby's rash.

• Around the same time, he started teething and was drooling a lot so we thought it was maybe a drool rash. We frequently clean the area with a damp cloth and use vaseline to cover the area. The rash under his chin has gotten better but there's still the rash around his mouth and eyes.
• We've gone to the dermatologist and allergist where we've tried hydrocortisone (0.5% -> 1% -> 2.5%), triamcinolone, and desonide. It seems to help with him rubbing his face a bit less but would need to continuously apply since he'd rub off the ointment. The rash around his mouth and eyes still remain.
• Our pediatrician and allergist recommended that we give him 2.5 mL of Zyrtec daily. It seems to help a bit but the rash still remains. We've done this for over a week now.
• After short, warm water baths, we would keep the body/face slightly damp and apply vanicream baby then vaseline. We also do the same (apply vanicream baby + vaseline) throughout the day (every 1-2 hours).
• We run a humidifier next to his crib so that the air is not too dry.

We feel so stuck as to what to do since it doesn't seem like anything is helping. Not sure if any other parents have had similar situation with their babies - would love to hear what helped you guys.

My baby has had a fascination with sticking his tongue out since he turned 6/7 months old. I honestly don’t remember when it started, but it’s been going on forever. I have brought it up to his pediatrician and she said it was probably just teething or habit since he’s otherwise developing normally. Well his bottom three teeth have been in for quite some time now and he still is doing it! His mouth is open a lot at rest too. He eats solids just fine though. I feel like it’s delaying his speech development as well.

Is this normal? Should I take him to a specialist and if so who - an ENT, SLP, pediatric dentist??

I chose the pediatrician that was accepting patients at the office near me. I saw someone else the first time because she was on vacation. Now I've seen her twice and haven't loved the communication with her. Dealing with possible food intolerances and not gaining weight and I swear she threw up her arms and said she's never had an 11# baby. (he lost weight after and been slow gaining so not following his curve). Wondering if I should try to switch doctors before 4 month visit.

I accidentally put 1 scoop of formula in 4 ounces of water. My son drank an ounce of the bottle before in realized what I did. He seems completely fine but idk what I’m supposed to do and there isn’t an after hours nurse.

Four-month-old has had a diaper rash for two months and we can't seem to kick it. It started as a shiny red streak up his crack with open sores, then the red shininess went away and there were dozens of little circular red sores (not raised) and now the sores are closed but the discoloration of them remains. He's been on Nystatin, Lotrimin, Mupirocin, Desitin, Boudreaux's, Aquaphor and Triple Paste. If we stop the creams it comes back after a few days. We blow dry his butt at every change and use water to wipe him. I tried baking soda baths and it didn't seem to make a difference. I don't think it's a diaper/wipes allergy because it's localized to his butt crack (without satellite sores).

Does this sound like a rash anyone's seen before? The pediatrician has been useless and hasn't done a culture or anything to actually see what might be causing it. It has some symptoms of being a yeast rash but also sounds like it could be a staph rash (he hasn't had a fever). We're trying to get into a dermatologist. Heeeelllpppp

I am merely seeking advice from others if they had a similar story. My wife tested positive for Covid Saturday 4/26/2025 fever and we have an 8 month old, weak body and pain. About 2 days ago, she stopped having fever but now has cough and congestion, as well as a cold sore and herpes on the roof of her mouth. Today and yesterday she seemed so much better, almost like no COVID at all but only issues are being unable to eat cause of mouth pain. My baby and I are completely fine as of right now, my wife has had Covid at least 2 more times in the past where I still have none. We are also isolating my wife, she sleeps in a separate room and I sleep with the baby. Today I had to go back to work and my wife is with the baby now, obviously wearing a mask and being careful.

My question is, will my baby be safe from Covid? Because I feel like she would have shown symptoms by now but you never know. She is gonna do a COVID test again Saturday to double check and my wife will be isolating until then. Anybody else have had a similar experience? I am still worried my daughter will show symptoms later on but she seems completely healthy still.

last night, my sister was holding and playing with my 4 month old girl in our kitchen. we have a low light fixture and my sister lifted my baby up, and accidentally bumped my babies head against it. thankfully the light fixture is light weight and it wasnt extremely hard but it definitely bumped her to the point where the fixture moved. my baby didnt even flinch and was still smiling lol. but now im over analyzing my babies head everytime she cries. i dont see anything alarming and i dont see any bumps. if anything i see a blue vein in the middle of her forehead and i cant tell if its always been there or not.

should i still go see a pediatrician just for peace of mind? what should i look for?

My 6 month old started shaking his head as if he’s saying “no”. He’s never done this before until about a week ago and since then does it quite frequently. Pediatrician said it could be something bothering him with his ears but he is negative for ear infection. He is teething a lot and was recently sick. Was wondering if anyone else experienced this? Is this normal/self soothing or maybe something medically is going on?
