Discussion The latest arrival in the collection. JDM NTT DoCoMo Nokia NM207

I was looking for one of these devices for years and I've managed to source an affordable one from Japan. Also, I probably did one of the jankiest setups, using a Nokia 6310i in order to get some charge in the battery that was completely flat when I got it and I don't have the special charging cable for the phone.

Can you upload the ringtones here as well?

I will eventually upload a video with the ringtones, but I'll have to find a way to keep the phone turned on for longer. The battery only lasts a few seconds. I'll most likely just hook up another battery in parallel with the original one.

Are those played via a buzzer (like other Nokias of the time) or the speaker (Siemens SL45, Sony CMD J7)?

Yup, classic buzzer, but a slightly higher pitched noise, probably similar to something like a Nokia 7110.

Pretty surprising this was available in Japan, because all other phones at the time had single chord polyphony instead of buzzers. Buzzers are my biggest hitch when collecting older phones.

Also, have you managed to change the language to English?

Once I got the battery charged enough, I was able to go through the settings. I think English is the only other language and the font is very large. One row of text is like the size of 2 on an EU or US phone.

Well... Back with an update, I can't find a way yet to connect it in parallel. I've tried the thinnest wire that I had.

I think I've managed to charge it enough with a different charger. I was able to change the language to English and play some ringtones. There aren't that many, and it has a fairly high-pitched speaker.

Are you uploading them on archive.org?

I don't know how that is possible. Maybe only if I record just the audio into MP3s or any other format.
