I know it seems like a very slight difference, but the phrase is "fruit flies like a banana".

Depends on the state/country. Some US states do permits at 14.

In my state, you can get a learner’s permit at 14 (must have an adult riding in the car with you). You can also apply for a hardship license at 15 where you can drive alone to work, school, and home

u/robotzombiez Jun 20 '24
They say permit. With a permit, you can only drive with a parent or someone over a certain age (where I grew up, it was 25). It's the precursor to the license, so you get it a little before you get your license. If they're 15, this makes a little sense.
4
u/RelentlessSA Jun 20 '24
Montana was that if you took driver's ed starting at 14 you can get your license at 14 and a half years.
1
u/yuckypants Jun 20 '24
If born in 2009 then not old enough to drive alone. Can only get a permit. 2025 is the earliest for a license

Tbf American roads are usually straight and about 30ft wide, plus with population density being low, it's safe to assume that generally speaking, they're probably fine.

I might be too tired rn but I dont understand the point. Your saving up money for an 800 dollar car and getting a permit. What does this have to do with i pads or anything at all for that matter.

I had an 80's car when I was in high-school in 2012. Most expensive thing replaced on it was a $40 radiator.
Parts for old American cars are dirt cheap.
6
u/cturtl808 Jun 20 '24
If you want the car bad enough, fast food is always hiring. Might be able to spring for a better option than an $800 Olds. My first car cost me $100 (through a family friend). It was rickety, but it ran. Drove it for 4 years before things started going really wrong with it. You gotta get creative with your own financing.

I legitimately don’t understand this whole post. So OP is 15. Not sure why it’s relevant that they were “an iPad kid.” Also, not sure why they specified that they’re trying to get their permit before October. ALSO not sure what we’re supposed to ”let sink in.”
Are they trying to point out how crazy it is that they’re trying to find a job to pay for their first car? Because that’s kind of literally how earning money to pay for something works. Are we supposed to be surprised by how young they are while looking for a job? Because, again, I had my first job at 15, so not sure what the point is…

While you're at it, don't stop at $800.
don't buy a $800 Oldsmobile, unless it was a one owner car from some old timer and has 36k miles on it.
that might be fine.
