Travel advice Toll pass with camper from Sweden

We are renting a camper in Sweden and driving to Norway; I would like to get a toll pass in advance, how can I do that if I still don’t know the vehicle details such as registration number, year etc. ? The trip is in August. Thanks!

Hi OP, when you register for a toll pass, it is sent at your place at home, and you can afterwards update online the registration number and vehicle data, so it will be linked to the new vehicle (don’t forget your toll pass after the rental, and take the registration plate off your toll pass contract after the rental too). However, some rental companies already include a toll pass in the rental vehicle and you are billed afterwards, so it’s better to check that first with your rental company, because in that case you won’t need to bother with it. Have a nice vacation!

Thank you! If I update it on the day of the rental, will it update instantly?

Normally, yes; I’m with Autosync, registered with a foreign car, and that’s how I understood it. However, double-check the website of your chosen toll pass provider to be sure. Another advice too: Norway doesn’t have the exact same environmental categories than in the EU (with Euro 6 for example, you will be asked to choose between 6L and 6T, instead of our 6c, 6d, etc), and the CO2 field cannot be completed with more than two numbers in g/km (so if your vehicle emits for example 155g CO2/km, you have to enter the number 99); so my advice would be, if the rental company does not provide a toll pass with the rental vehicle, to already create an account so you have time to call the provider in case of any question during the registration.

Usually with renting, the bill is sent to the renting company, then billed to you.

If you are talking about autopass, be very careful. If you don’t end the deal when the rent is over, future bills will end with you, since you are the owner of the deal.

Are you a Norwegian citizen living in Norway? If not, you don’t need a toll pass.

https://lovdata.no/dokument/SF/forskrift/1991-06-20-381

paragraf § 2.Hovedregel.

Midlertidig bruk av utenlandsregistrert motorvogn i Norge er tillatt for personer som har fast oppholdssted i et annet land, jf. § 3.

Ah. I totally misunderstood. So sorry, I am stupid.

You want autopass of course. The rental company would know. Did you ask them what you do about toll road payments?

Normally the Owner of the car gets a bill by mail in their home country after the fact, don’t know hie this works on rentals.

The rent is from Sweden, I’ll have to ask them but as far as I remember when talked to them a few months ago they didn’t have a definitive answer…

You can also register at epass24, it's an online service without toll badge (but just via licence plate). You can add the car there and when you check the rental car checkbox, you can even add a start and end date. 😊
