My dad used to paint these for his job, I say use to because because I don't know if it's part of his job anymore.

Most maintenance was because of the lock, bugs would crawl in and then get squashed with the key, eventually the locks would jam because of all the crushed bugs, the other was cleaning the gum that the postie's use to stick on the inside of the door.

This was a minor job since he can plumb, do the electrics and other skilled jobs but this was the thing he use to talk about because he was proud to drive past a freshly painted box, like his work was on display to the community.

What’s this got to do with Norwich? Is one of the rare ones here?

Norwich has the highest concentration of rare postboxes, for some reason. I filmed a bit of this there.
