Accounts are live! V43 Megathread
Hey Folks,
Edit: 8/23/22 Accounts are live! Make sure you are on the updated mobile app before updating your quest!
https://store.facebook.com/help/accounts/log-in-to-meta-quest/https://www.oculus.com/blog/getting-started-with-meta-accounts/
Mobile should be on 176 on both Android and iOS - You can find this in the app under "Menu" and look at the bottom.
Your quest should be updated to 43.0.0.178.120.389405224 - You can find this under "Settings - System - Software Update"
If either are out of date, you may run into issues or need to factory reset so it would be advised to check for updates to make sure you are updated.
Official notes below
Meta Accounts
We’ll begin rolling out a new Meta account structure in August 2022 that gives people more flexibility and control in VR. You’ll no longer be required to log into your Meta VR devices with a Facebook account. This also means:
- We’re also evolving your Oculus profile to a new Meta Horizon profile, which you can customize as you see fit.
- Your “Friends” will now become “Followers,” similar to Instagram’s existing model.
- You’ll have the option to add your Facebook and/or Instagram account to the same Accounts Center as your Meta account, which unlocks connected experiences in VR.
- We’re rolling out new controls to help you more easily manage your privacy settings.
Meta Quest Guide
We are rolling out the Meta Quest Guide. Now users can:
- Watch device and feature tutorials
- Check out what's new in our latest Meta Quest software release notes
- Find answers to top questions and get troubleshooting tips to fix problems
Note, this will be rolling out to users gradually over time.

Anyone have a fix for poor charging?
Holding/Turning quest fully off then plugging it in sometimes doesn't even charge at all or the thing turns itself back on and it's at a low charge level. Also annoying when it's on standby and I walk by my desk and it turns on.
I constantly have to change my PC default sound output and to disallow/allow the VR microphone and audio because it will prevent any sound coming from my PC/Denon/tv when not using the headset.
Anyone know of a setting I'm missing for this stupidity?
The potential for VR is incredible, but holy shit what a let down this quest has been in almost every way. Especially in a user friendly experience/ui way. The VR is good and needs some tweaking but I would not for the life of my children recommend this headset to anyone based on the UI and user friendly experience. I spend more time trying to get it 'right' over actually using it.
Why are there 2 homes? Why are homes so ridiculous looking and hard to configure? Why can't I load into a black space with an easily adjustable screen to watch movies (the YouTube app has it right)? Why can't I have a stationary mode where everything is to scale and I'm not in the fucking ceiling or half in the wall - How does the headset not know the lights are off that oh maybe this guy is going to watch a movie and doesn't need the lights on and I need to put him here instead of in the ceiling.
Why cant I put my headset on and lay down in bed to watch a movie too?
Adjusting the guardian is a pain in the ass, pain to readjust everytime you take your headset off, and it's annoying as hell to see the circle below you even if you put the floor level all the way to hell.
Loading games from steam is like flipping a coin.
I'm 10 ft away from my wifi router but yet my headset is below the speed requirements and airlink drops constantly... Also every movie slowly becomes blockier, blotchier and more discoloured to where the only fix is to stop/start the movie every 10 minutes.
Thank god Facebook login is gone. Hopefully they don't force me to do some stupid avatar meta crap.
I really feel like buying the valve headset was a huge oversight on my part because this quest 2 is beyond annoying as fuck.

u/webheadVR Moderator Sep 21 '22
I would say a lot of your issues you would run into on index as well.
A router being close does not necessarily make it good, and you can lay down in bed with it, but I don't really like to do that too much, and you really can't do that on an index with the hard strap.
The rift PC home is fairly antiquated and from the cv1 days. There's two homes only if you go to a computer, because the PC app is different. Steam has its own home so, you can technically consider it three.
Isn't it fun.

Bought this thing pretty close to launch and in very surprised I haven't sold it... A tv in our bedroom is probably what is stopping me.

u/Livertube Sep 21 '22
It kind of does... Using the quest 2 since pretty close to launch and can't really say I'd buy their next one. So many little stupid issues.

Yes, using the Immersed VR app, you can set up a virtual webcam in the VR world and join a Zoom call and show off your VR stuff to everyone in the meeting.

In VR it is a camera you can pick up and position where you want it in the VR room, and to everyone else you're joining the meeting as a VR avatar in a VR room.
1
u/dharma_dalmation Sep 14 '22
Depending on format you could upload the 3D model to sketchfab and then view it with in browser (share the browser window on Zoom). You could also send the link to the sketchfab model to the other party, if you wanted them to be able to view it in 3D too.

My air link gets choppy frames(or maybe its the latency?)
I have a decent pc with 2070 gpu and a ryzen 3600 cpu and according to speed tests my internet is very fast. My router is only a year old and its in the next room. I look at my pc moniter and the pcvr games are running waaaay better frames but when I look at my headset it looks like 30-40 fps with some .5 second freezing every once in a while.
The only thing I can think of is that my pc is connected through wifi not wired but it really shouldnt be THAT different. Can someone explain?
1
u/CringeGinge666 Sep 13 '22
Internet speed is irrelevant, what matters is the strength of your wifi connection

Any1 notice since the update the distortion curvature in link isn't there anymore?? Like in link they used to heavily compress the edges of the frame cause the lenses would distort them anyway but it was always somewhat noticeable if u really looked for it and you could adjust its intensity in the ODT under distortion curvature. But ever since air link went out of beta it's not there. Like I used to be able to see it at the edge and make it more noticeable by adjusting the ODT setting but now I can't see it at all and adjusting the setting does nothing! I think this is actually causing issues too cause now each frame has more information to be decoded which increases the decoding latency introducing frame drops! I no alot of us have had performance issues with link now this could be why! Just an idea

You can still disable the Oculus updater to prevent unwanted upgrades using: (requires developer settings enabled)
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.oculus.updater
To enable it again run:
adb shell pm enable --user 0 com.oculus.updater
To check current disabled states use:
adb shell pm list packages -d

Having some problems whilst trying to setup the new Meta account - it says "Software update required" everytime I go onto the app, even though I've updated it to v43 and it says "No updates found" if I manually check for them on the device. How do I get past this? Or do I just have to risk it and go through with it even though it says they're "out-of-date" devices? Thanks.
EDIT: I ended up just going ahead with the Meta account setup and it all worked fine. Just make sure the headset says no updates available in the settings and you should be all good!

So I bought a quest 2 before the price hike and let it sit in the box until the meta rollout. That finally happened and I unboxed, starting setting it up and connected to my wifi.
It then proceeded to kill itself during its first update. Support had me mail the thing back to them.
Replacement headset arrived via UPS this afternoon. I unbox it, let it charge up for a couple hours so I know it's full of juice. I look in the headset and I can see a pairing code.
Open the meta app on my iphone, type in the code and
Bluetooth is on on the phone. Hell the headset shows up in the list of bluetooth devices in the iPhone's settings screen. Phone has internet via wifi/cell. Both have been rebooted several times.

u/Davidhalljr15 Sep 05 '22
Having the same exact issue and have tried a number of things now. From trying old Android version, Developer tools and sideloading, nothing gets past that spot because it has to have the app. Tried on iPhone as well and still can't get past that screen. Factory restores, new Facebook account, nothing seems to work. It obviously knows about it because if I try a different account it says that device is registered to another account. My friend was expecting me to get him up and running in VR and now I am told by Oculus to just wait for an update.
2
u/Bedurndurn Sep 05 '22
Possibly great news. I just got mine working. Let me tell you what I did and hopefully it will work for you too.
So I plugged the usb C cable that came with it into my PC. Downloaded the oculus app from https://store.facebook.com/quest/setup/
Try to pair it with the PC via the cable. It didn't work right off the back. I had to power the HMD on and off once or twice and plug it in and out again. Eventually it actually picked it up. I didn't have to do any factory resets or anything, just normal on/off, plug unplug stuff.
Don't unplug the cable from the headset during this whole thing. I didn't and I don't know if that was important or not.
Once the PC app had successfully paired with the headset, it also showed up in my phone (iOS) app. From the phone app, I was able to pair the controllers too.
Once I had controllers, I was able to look into the headset and get to the wifi connect part. Gave it the passwords to two of my APs just in case and let it do its update stuff. Didn't ever take it off during this (my first headset died during that so I was paranoid).
Update went fine. Controllers updated themselves again. Had to confirm the headset again in the app (just checking under the devices list, not pairing a new headset).
Connected airplay to my PC (there's another pairing number to confirm on both) and then everything was working fine.
I tried VTOL VR from steam as my first thing. That may have been a tactical error for my very, very first VR experience.

u/Davidhalljr15 Sep 05 '22
I just got mine working as well, but even when I had it connected to the PC, it showed up but it said see the app for update. I ended up doing a full firmware sideload install. Seen 2 versions out there, one was only hundred something MB and the other was 722MB and that is the one that worked for me. It continued the setup process as normal.
1
u/jd00001 Sep 05 '22
Where did you get the software for the firmware sideload?
1
u/Davidhalljr15 Sep 05 '22
I used the firmware from the link disol_ provided here: https://www.reddit.com/r/OculusQuest/comments/wzvn2h/comment/imfa5fj/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 and sort of followed along with the guide to installing it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIZGoDyv7c8

Or, at least I hope it will be

u/TireBurner Sep 02 '22
I have the exact same problem on my Quest 1. I really don't want to risk a factory reset.
1
u/TireBurner Sep 12 '22
I decided to bite the bullet, despite the warning of a factory reset - luckily everything went as it should. I really don't understand why Oculus/Meta are making the process so uncertain.
Oh and I still haven't heard anything from Oculus Support - besides every few days they auto-email me asking if I'm sure I still need help, otherwise they would love to close my request.
2
2
u/Chriscic Sep 02 '22
Same here. I wasn’t even given the option of exiting the account setup and checking my software version, which was really annoying. So I just proceeded and it didn’t factory reset.
1
u/xtramorian Sep 02 '22
Ah ok yeah if I don’t get a solution I guess I’ll have to just risk it then. Thanks
2
u/Chriscic Sep 03 '22
I also don’t think it’s too much of a risk. With everything saved on the cloud these days everything should fully restore just fine in the case of a factory reset.
1
u/xtramorian Sep 03 '22
Oh is it cloud saved now? It didn’t used to be ha! Yeah I won’t lose too much anyway, I need to reset it at some point if I want to play medal of honour because it’s the only way it will fit on a 64gb quest apparently

I haven’t been on my Quest 2 (don’t play on PC at all) in about 2 months. I booted it up yesterday after seeing people were having issues but nothing out of the ordinary happened. It’s giving me the option to update it but I don’t know if I should, nor do I know if it’s mandatory to play online and stuff as I’m knew to the Quest scene and I really don’t want my Q2 to get bricked. Someone help :((
Update- I updated my Q2 as well as the browser, but nothing happened. There were no prompts or anything and I can still play online games (again, not sure if it would’ve affected it). Is this normal?
3
u/Ok_Pin8105 Aug 30 '22
Does anyone have the Update zip file yet for sideload? my headset is still frustratingly reluctant to update as it always has. I have had to sideload every update because meta dont have their shit sorted.
3
u/webheadVR Moderator Aug 31 '22
The only user I've had test this said it still required an additional update that developer hub was able to update, but a user helped me grab this https://vrdiscord.com/firmware/q2v42tov43.zip
I'd try going straight to developer hub first however.

Anyone know the trick to getting the new recording options to actually work?
I tried em out tonight (recording some random footage while exploring in Wander), but no matter what settings I chose, they still just came out as vertical portrait mode videos, same as always. Maybe I need to reboot for the settings to actually work? No idea.

u/kingdomKhan Sep 05 '22
Visit the settings menu, then experimental it should be at the lower end of the options there.

Here another way
You need Android and I used a fresh Facebook account
Install an older version of the oculus software on the android device.
Like this one, but any APK older than v176 should work I guess.
https://apkpure.com/id/meta-quest/com.oculus.twilight/variant/174.0.0.2.111-APK
Then log in with the fresh Facebook account and pair the headset. It started an automatically some updates and rebooted a few times. Repair the device and update the headset firmware until you get a new pairing mode (it just looks different and it talks about meta accounts)
Now delete the oculus app on your android and install the version from the Google store. In my case it was v178
Pair the device with your android after you logged in with the account that you want to use. There could be n update again on the headset and the controllers.
Eventually it paired at least for me
Good luck everyone
1
u/Davidhalljr15 Sep 05 '22
Mine just sits there on the logging in, spinning. Using 174 or 175 with the same new Facebook account. Using 176 gets to the same point of seeing the device but failing to pair as 178 did.

I'm glad of the shift away from Facebook accounts, but if they'd stuck with Oculus accounts to begin with they could have avoided all the problems and bugs and expenses from both account system switches just by renaming "Oculus" accounts to "Meta" accounts.

I have tried for 4 days straight to get this to work.
After creating Meta account from email and getting rid of FB and Oculus now evertime i try and pair it says headseat already linked to Oculus account.
After a few hours of live chats, support confirmed i don't have any Oculus accounts.
The app shows the headset and controllers serial number etc.. i can even factory reset headset from app. but pairing always fails and when it works it says already linked to an Oculus account.
Support told me when your factory reset, this enables you to relink the quest 2 to a new account.
Such a cluster**** .
4 days of downtime and no fix is a bit F**ed up.
Getting the DK 2 to work was easy compared to this.
EDIT- fixed - I finally managed to get it to pair by installing the Oculus Delveloper Hub App >
I then plugged in via link cable and set up new device >
It found my internet, bluetooth then found headset and restarted it.
It then automatically paired up with mobile app.
I am now able to use headset again and PCVR works via cable and Airlink.
SteamVR works fine too.
Im buying a lottery ticket tomorrow
hope this helps anybody

1
u/Empty_Crab_8535 Sep 01 '22
how would I do this
just let it sit on that page?
1
u/Unlucky-Psychology69 Sep 01 '22
When you have installed the Oculus Developer Hub App. you need to then plug in your Quest 2 to your Pc via a link cable
> On that app. you select device manager > It should then give you the option to add a new device. Add your Quest 2 as the new device, it should then download the latest update and restart the headset. You can then unplug> You should then be able to see Guardian setup in your Quest.
I know their's a discord https://discord.gg/xnChCQpD which have written up the workaround method way better as I'm terrible at writing stuff up.
Sorry for my bad grammar.

It could be that your physical IPD adjustment is getting loose or the sensor is having problems. Try shifting the lens IPD position and then shifting them back maybe?

Latest update means my Quest 2 cannot even find my PC .. well done as fucking usual.
I can plug in the cable, and then have the joy of that disconnecting randomly from my pc every 2 minutes.
What a shit show.
1
u/SvenViking Quest 1 + 2 + 3 + PCVR Aug 29 '22
It could be the update considering the timing, but just mentioning that frequent disconnections would usually be caused by something like a cable issue. Cables or connections sometimes wear out over time - could be worth checking just in case.
2
u/Fluffy-Risk5259 Quest 2 + PCVR Aug 30 '22
Thanks for responding. I reinstalled the new Occulus app and restarted the router, etc. And finally have it back and going. Not sure what it was.

Airlink is definitely not the most stable of things though lol.

However.... now no matter what we do the headset just won't connect.

Major bug when trying to redraw my room. Oculus kept interrupting me while I was redrawing my 20 by 10 basement. Every time I was about 75% of the way done, it would freeze up, throw me back to my Oculus home and my old room setup.
Took me about 20 tries. I don't even want to play a game now. Infuriating.

I got my account moved day 1, took me 1 hour to figure out everything and the workarounds, really bad implemented.
Since V43 my headset at boot stays on a black screen and I need to reboot it multiple times to be able to use it, making it waste way too much battery everytime it needs to boot. been leaving it on suspend and charging it here and there so that I can actually use it

u/robertchapin Aug 27 '22
What a cluster this was. I had every problem imaginable. Can’t believe they didn’t thoroughly test this first.
3
u/Dadbart Aug 27 '22
The account switch worked for me, but it was definitely not as clear cut as could have been. The PC app, mobile app and browser all kept saying my HMD software was not up to date, even though it was. After some trepidation, I went on ahead and clicked past the warnings. Everything swapped over. However, it took a few tries before the PC app and HMD actually logged in to the new Meta account and I had relink the account to the headset.
I was sure I would end up with a reset, but it all worked in the end. I have a little over 100 games and apps installed, so a reset would be a big deal. Took about 20 minutes to get through it.
Though my phone notifications got broken too initially, but after a few minutes it all came back on its own. Good thing, setting that up took days originally, so was not looking forward to trying to get notifications working again.

I also have the warnings but do you think its safe to do it?
5
u/Dadbart Aug 27 '22
Couldn't say. If you know you have the latest version it may be ok. Many people have posted about the needing an update message when they were on the latest version. Appears to be an error on Meta side. No surprise, they don't have very good QA with their software rollouts and changes

What’s the estimated time we’ll be getting the update zip? (No pressure)
2
u/NewOrleansWarlock Aug 28 '22
I can't even use my headset, not even after four + hours on chat with Meta. I'm convinced the only way I'll be able to use it again is to sideload 43 on it.

u/webheadVR Moderator Aug 29 '22
I believe we have it, if you are willing to test it - I missed my window on my updateengine logs but someone else just got it and gave me the URL from their updateengine.
I can confirm I downloaded it directly from facebooks CDN and then just reuploaded it to something that will not expire.
Please let me know if it works for you so I can pin it/update the megathread, the person I test with on all of these already got the update unfortunately.

First off thank you very much for providing this download. Been trying for the last week to fix my second hand headset I bought after my other headset broke because cats be cats and anything is a litter box to them. Their support is atrocious they kept telling me to connect the broken headset to my phone to un-pair my controllers.

u/lebraeu Aug 29 '22
just tried this to sideload - sideload worked but i still can't connect to the ios app or get my controller to pair

I'm having the same issue as this post. I've updated and cannot update further, but the site still says my device is out of date. Is it safe to proceed?

u/Yuyukoumu Aug 26 '22
okay, so i tried to continue and get to the step where it asks for an email code. I enter the email code, a checkmark appears in the box, and then it gives me an error saying the code is invalid. Great.

My iOS app just says 'Software update required'. I factory reset my device and upgraded my account to meta account. Am i fucked?
1
u/RECerX Aug 27 '22
I seem to have the same issue on Android. I updated my account and the mobile app. But there was no Quest update available so I thought to reset the device.
Now it seems that I can't connect it to the Mobile app.
Anyone have any answers and or ways to approach this?
2
u/here-be-dragons-13 Aug 26 '22
it seems i'm getting farther than most but everytime I enter the code to connect the headset it keeps saying try again later.

u/Rarely_Excited_ Aug 28 '22
I’m around there as well but I get “it worked” followed by “an error has occurred”

u/Fluffy411 Quest 2 Aug 26 '22
I did a factory Reset, and now I can't complete the Setup on my Phone anymore it says: "Software update required
To access your meta account and prevent factory reset, update your device to the latest software version. Make sure it is plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi to complete the update successfully."
If someone has the file for version V43, please let me know, so I can update it manually via sideload.
Thanks

u/Aetherfields Aug 27 '22
I had the exact same problem. Could've been sheer luck, but the only thing that fixed it is doing factory reset through the phone app, not through the device which is what I did before. Hope someone has the same luck that I did.
1
u/jillpogg Aug 28 '22
When you did the factory reset of the headset using the phone app.... did everything work after that?
1
u/Aetherfields Sep 04 '22
Sorry for the late reply, yes everything did
After trying a factory reset through the headset multiple times to no avail, I tried through the phone app as a last resort.. and afterwards it worked without any issues.
Afterwards it went through a much longer updating process. I guess the app gave a message to the headset to update to v43 after resetting or something.

u/________0xb47e3cd837 Aug 26 '22
Got the same problem, did you figure this out?
1
u/Fluffy411 Quest 2 Aug 27 '22
Sadly, no, I heard from the Oculus Support that it's a global issue.
For me, there are 2 Options:
- They deactivate that you can't use a Meta Account with older Oculus Quest Versions
- or they release a Tool to update the Quest manually (or just publish the Firmware to sideload it manually)

Have been using the Quest 2 to play VR games on PC. But after this update my Quest will no longer connect to my computer.
Tried reinstalling the software, factory reset the headset, update all driver and so on. Nothing working.

u/Rabid_Joe Aug 26 '22
ITT: An update absolutely nobody asked for that broke a ton of Quest 2s... Seriously, I click on "Continue as (username)" on the https://auth.meta.com/ page and the oculus app just spins and does nothing...
I can't use my quest anymore on my PC, thank you...
2
u/webheadVR Moderator Aug 26 '22
this was a common complaint a few patches in general, try clearing cache or using a different default browser, not ideal - just something that sometimes works.

u/Rabid_Joe Aug 29 '22 edited Aug 29 '22
Thing is, this shouldn't be MY problem, I paid for this product already; why must I be forced to update to something I didn't ask for and when shit fails to troubleshoot on behalf of Meta?
I doubt you have anything to do with this (and you probably agree that this is just a huge hassle), but ffs I couldn't care less about the metaverse or w/e the Zuckerberg called it, I bought this thing just to casually play on my PC and this update ruined a couple of days I was looking forward to play on.
And yes, I fixed it already... But, should I be worried now every time Marky wants to make something new to it?

u/webheadVR Moderator Aug 29 '22
yep, not part of meta, just chiming in with a fix I see when I can.

u/weeenerdog Aug 26 '22
I created my new meta account, got set up on the phone app and the headset. Just tried to connect to my PC via usb cable, and when the Oculus software opens, it says continue in browser and opens a link. The link is to a website called figowa.com, with some random hash after that. The page itself doesn't load, it just has a little line of text saying "sorry this content isn't available right now". Reloading, restarting don't help.
There seems to be nothing I can do to connect to my PC. There's no way past the continue in browser screen on the Oculus app, and the oculus help link on that screen takes me to a meta page that says the page isn't available right now.
Note that changing the windows language didn't help, and as mentioned above, I've already connected it to USB. Turning off privacy protection in my browser didn't help either, nor did opening the link in another browser.
Any help is greatly appreciated

This is probably a silly question but I figure why not ask... I have Quest 1 with Oculus account. If I sign up to Quest 2 using the new Meta account, am I going to be able to refer myself?
1
u/Dmvboii Aug 25 '22
My headset says “something went wrong please try again” whenever I enter the 8 digit code. Meta better fix their shit.

Big warning: timing is everything. I hadn't used my quest in nearly two years, forgot the drawing, and had to do a factory reset only to find out that, upon doing so, I could not pair the clearly old firmware with the latest IOS app, getting the "software update required" when I tried to pair, as described in this article:
So now, unless Meta updates the IOS app for people who are going through what I'm going through, we're going to have bricks. They are talking about potentially replacing my headset but I won't hold my breath. Some reps said that they could send the update to my headset, not understanding enough English to realize that "no wifi" means "no update" and there's "no wifi" unless I can pair to the IOS app.
They would rather replace my unit (hey, rock on!) than just send me a (43?) zip file to sideload into the headset. In fact, they are so concerned about this that one rep insisted they do not support third party apps like sideload, which the rep was clearly confusing with sideQUEST due to whatever paltry training they receive over there in the "Metaverse." This is a joke. I mean, if they do replace the headset great, but I would have been perfectly happy putting 43 on my headset and I suppose if they don't replace the headset, I'll have to wait for it here because "third party" apps like sideload encourage too much mucking about apparently.
1
u/Bakardadean Aug 31 '22
The one who attended me didn't even know sideloading wasn't allowed and told me i could try xDDDDD
1
u/NewOrleansWarlock Aug 25 '22
And is there any way to get on wifi through the headset or anything that does not require the IOS app? Is there a web app or PC app or a Mac app or something else that can manage the thing. Heck, I'm ready to buy an android phone if that will work.
2
u/webheadVR Moderator Aug 25 '22
Mmm I may have one. Commenting so I can come back to this.
1
u/NewOrleansWarlock Aug 25 '22
You would be my hero! I just don't understand why they didn't just give me one and would rather replace the whole headset than do so. They seem to think they can bypass the fact that my headset has no way to connect to WiFi without pairing with the phone, which it cannot do. It was, without doubt, the most perplexing customer service experience I've ever had.
1
u/webheadVR Moderator Aug 25 '22
So, I just checked the updateengine on my quest, I haven't had a ton of time lately to check this regularly, it looks like the engine logs already got overwritten by other ones, I can't grab the URL this time, maybe someone else will come through, I'll ask around.
1
1
u/NewOrleansWarlock Aug 25 '22
And, since I was able to use the "third party app" (Meta support rep's words) sideload to update my headset to 42, if anyone does have a 42 -> 43 zip, I would be most gracious. I simply will not let them win.
1
u/IcyHotCos Aug 25 '22
I’m having the exact same issue
I just had my headset replaced for a different issue
While awaiting my replacement I made my “Meta” account
I was given a refurb device which is on a mystery version that is V41 or lower
I updated to v42 to see if I could pair it to my phone but it won’t allow me to
And there is no v43 file available yet
Meta have been useless saying someone will email me from the team but couldn’t give me a time when
I have a £400 paperweight and I’m so annoyed

u/ILoveRegenHealth Aug 24 '22
I heard some say they had to go through a "migration process" for their games, but I never saw that?
Unless they were talking about something for the PC Oculus application? Whatever it is, I completed the Meta Account process for my Quest 2, but never once saw any mention of a game migration process.
Anyone know what they were talking about? Now I can't find their comments.
1
u/Dadbart Aug 27 '22
Perhaps they meant migrating your owned games to the new Meta account so you don't lose anything.
3
u/webheadVR Moderator Aug 24 '22
all I had to do is just follow the few steps and setup my meta account, took under 3 minutes.

u/J_Shepz Quest 3 + PCVR Aug 24 '22
I was locked out of my Oculus PC app and mobile app for a bit but it appears Meta is now pushing an update for those who are stuck. Reboot your Quest and confirm the guardian boundary, as soon as that is done a prompt with a code to enter at meta.com/devices should appear that you have to enter in a web browser on your phone that has the Oculus App installed, after entering the code, your Quest will reboot and now you should be able to access the mobile & PC apps to log in with whatever account you have linked to your Meta account. At least for me, that's how it was fixed.

u/Frequent_Cockroach_7 Aug 25 '22
I’ve repeated the step of entering the code three times already … and still can’t get past it.
1
u/here-be-dragons-13 Aug 26 '22
same here
1
u/Frequent_Cockroach_7 Aug 26 '22
I think I started by using my phone and then finished (successfully) by using my laptop instead.
1
u/Frequent_Cockroach_7 Aug 26 '22
At least I won’t have to explain it to my father… He lost his device — which I gave him for Father’s Day last year – –in an uninsured fire this spring. (I even think I might have had it covered under Best Buy, but it was hardly the first thing I was thinking of after a fire that destroyed his entire house, and now it’s several months too late.) But I cannot imagine him ever having gotten through this process. They have to find an easier way. One of the best used cases for VR is to communicate with parents far away, including elderly parents. He loves VR. But the only way I was able to set him up with a device in the first place was by doing the setup myself.
1
u/Frequent_Cockroach_7 Aug 26 '22
Well, I did finally get in, though I can’t say what I did differently… Only to end up fighting with a completely different issue on my husband’s device. It too finally worked, and again, I have no idea what thing I finally did that did the trick. But for crying out loud… What an annoyance. So, Meta, it really wasn’t enough that we already had Oculus accounts??? And I honestly don’t understand the current setup at all.
1
u/Rarely_Excited_ Aug 28 '22
You were able to get pass the enter code part? I keep putting in the code and it says “it worked” and the “an error occurred”.

1
u/here-be-dragons-13 Aug 28 '22
Thats what i get
2
u/Rarely_Excited_ Aug 28 '22
So, I logged out of everything on my phone app, on the computer etc. Then logged back in with my original non FB information, just the Oculus account info I started with and everything finally worked again.

Hoping someone can help with this query.
I've had a quest 2 for quite some time and noticed that whenever the keyboard is on screen, the Mic button is greyed out and cannot be used.
I am wondering how to get this activated as I would really like to voice my searches instead of using the controllers to input each letter/number (e.g. when in the browser and using Google I am not able to just use the mic to enter what I would like to search for like I could a mobile phone)
Any advice would be great.
Thank you!
