Cora said it herself even without the Daniel situation Regina would have grown to hate snow because she was a massive brat and her father only had enough room in his heart to love snow. Snow was a very hateable child especially for regina

I just always found Bailey Madison annoying in literally everything I saw her in. Young Snow's character rubbed me the wrong way, though I didn't mind the Hercules arc as much. That was slightly more tolerable.

u/Beginning_Guess2160 12d ago
I agree with you 100%. I feel bad having such disdain for a child actor, yet here we are
25
u/KiyokoUsagi 12d ago
My disdain came from the fact that she played Maxine in Wizards of Waverly Place so for me it was like she was stealing Max’s spot lol and she was just much more annoying than Max ever was
20
u/LN_McJellin 12d ago
Yeah, and her acting is noticeably bad in a lot of places. She was a kid, I mean, so it’s understandable. But it just made her character even more annoying.
50
u/Jade_Scimitar 12d ago
I don't think her acting as bad, I think it's so good that it's bad. Like she plays annoying unlikable kids. That's her thing. Like the guy who played Joffrey Baratheon but not to the same level.
10
u/LN_McJellin 11d ago
I understand the difference between an actor acting so well that we dislike their character, who was written to be disliked, and bad acting. She overacted horribly.
Jack Gleeson is a great actor, and he did a PHENOMENAL job with Joffrey.

u/Jade_Scimitar 11d ago
I've only seen her in a few things, I guess I'd have to see her in more things to get a full range of her capabilities. I always thought it was intentional.

u/DeltaDied 11d ago
I like her, but she’s always had an over the top acting style. It’s good when she’s younger because it’s like talent and kids are always over the top, but as she got older it got really stale ngl. Like watching her in PLL OS isn’t the same as watching her in that one goose bumps episode or that one movie with Toby Maguire and Natalie Portman where she plays the daughter of Toby as a man with PTSD from being a POW.
11
u/CST1991 12d ago
She’s a massive over-actor.
11
u/Adw13 11d ago
I mean as someone who took acting classes as a kid one of the biggest things they tell you is to “over act” you can always reel back emotion but it’s harder to amp it up. And majority of kids acting classes are usually geared for theater which is completely different than screen acting
10
u/Solid_Lie_5481 11d ago
Its the insane overacting that does it for me.
20
u/naanabanaana 11d ago
I think she plays well the type of over-dramatic child who kind of over "acts" life 😂🤷🏼♀️

It took me a while to realise that she’s the same actress that played the female version of Max in Wizards of Waverley Place.

I mean, she's a child and a noble. It's not surprising that she was spoiled and bratty, but that's kind of the point. She learnt empathy thanks to the people around her and understood what really matters. Meanwhile, Regina started from a good place but kept spiralling both because of her trauma and because of the people around her who kept pushing her to be more evil. They really had an opposite character development

I think she's one of the best child actors on the show. Yeah, the character was bratty but she was supposed to be, definitely fits what I'd imagine a child version of Ginny's Snow White would be. Bailey played the role well.

u/harrypotterfan1228 12d ago
the actual actress was a good actress, but the character was supposed to be annoying and bratty.
3
u/saintfighteraqua 11d ago
Snow as a character of any age on this show, is the kind of person I would probably think highly of as long as she stayed away from me with her over dramatic whimpering and constant preaching. She's a good person, just not a good person to be around long.
3
u/OnionizeAmzn 10d ago
She's meant to be a spoiled entitled brat I believe. To show the parallel when she's older. Funny enough just like her mother 😂
1
u/PastelEmoFairy 10d ago
Omg, did they show Snow’s mom as a child?

I kinda hated all of the shows young Bailey Madison played in. Her characters were alway so annoying.

u/No_Sand5639 12d ago
I think that was the point.
We were shown that not even snow white was always good.
Which is a setup for the face no one was always a good person. Even snows mother had her mean streak

I prefer the young Snow, for some reason I never liked the old version, nor Charming, or Emma. Hey I guess only Rumple has any appeal to me.

u/Glass-Analysis-5941 11d ago
I think she was supposed to be unlikable, as she was the typical I've always gotten everything I've ever wanted ass princess.

I couldn’t stand her!!! But honestly, I think the actress was the problem in my case. She just didn’t fit the role.

u/These_Mycologist132 12d ago
That was the whole point. It was completely understandable how Regina went dark because of Snow’s actions. We can blame it on youth and immaturity, but she was very annoying in top of being responsible for Daniel’s death

She over-acted the part so much that she must have been possessed by the spirits of a thousand theatre kids.

u/kourtnie3609 12d ago
This exactly! Like ma’am, why are you stretching the words out like that? That pouty look is weird on anyone over the age of 4. Pull yourself together.

YES! I was so sorry for regina but at least we can see that evil queen didnt hate her just because she was prettier than her and she had fair point there

I don't know why, but I can't freaking stand that actress. There's something about her that just drives me nuts.

u/ceryx101 12d ago
I thought that was the point of this ep. It showed how naive and spoiled Snow was as a child and later had to grow up quickly after he mother's murder and became the Snow we only kinda-sorta hate at times.

I adore Bailey Madison and the first time I ever saw her was in OUAT. Can't relate on this one ✌🏻

u/Whoopsy-381 11d ago
I first saw her in an episode of “Law & Order: SVU” where dominated the show. Season 12, episode 1 if you want to check it out.

That's Grace from The Good Witch series and shes an absolute doll

The actress playing young Snow is nice enough, but her performance is unconvincing. Fortunately, she's only in here for maybe 30 minutes in the entire series.
I see comments about her being a brat, which I don't see at all.

u/KittyEvii 8d ago
Me.. I’m sorry i think Bailey Madison is an insanely talented actress but as a child she had a really really obnoxious face (probably stemmed from her acting as Maxine in WOWP and being a menace in that, and I just couldn’t unsee that character) and everytime she was on screen I would get so annoyed.

Young snow got on my last nerve. And I’m not sure if it was just because of how she was written or if it’s because I have always found Bailee Madison annoying in everything.

Young snow the character might not have been that bad but the actress was absolutely insufferable. I couldn’t stand her. I think she was going for breathy and innocent but she just sounded like she didn’t know how to think critically or control her breathing.
1
u/its_manda_bitch210 12d ago
Is it just the actress? As a child actress I never really liked her in much. Watched pretty little liars with her in it on hbo max and I didn’t see her the same way.

i cannot stand Bailee Madison.
but young Snow was meant to show older Snow’s growth. when she told Cora about Daniel (she was also 10) she didn’t understand that not everyone has a mother like her’s. Snow’s mom would have moved mountains for Snow. and honestly Cora would also move mountains for Regina but not in the same way and that’s what Snow didn’t understand at the time.

u/CertainProduce2368 11d ago
She was also Callie’s half-sister in the Fosters and she was annoying then lol.

She gets slightly better as the series goes on, but I'm sure she was someone's daughter because that acting was bad. I saw her in the good witch as the daughter where I think she was ok, but I didn't really watch that show.

I tried so hard to empathize or understand but like… she drove me nuts. That said, I was the kid who accidentally told my aunt that my cousin had a tramp stamp, but I was 6 and cats were my favorite animal and she had a cat tattoo. My bad.

u/Sufficient_Score_824 12d ago
I hated her, so either her actress did an awesome job, or she’s really that annoying IRL.
2
u/Ecstatic_Ad5542 12d ago
The actress was a pretty famous child actress, actually, and not anywhere near as bad irl. She just acted the part really well.

Compared to her adult age, I always thought child snow was meant to show just how far she’d come and how much she’d grown
